@Wretched Like ... ok but maybe I'm coming at this from a weird angle because I keep my fapping and my TSing separate as a rule, but who cares where the ftb point is? If the storyline is the same, there's no difference at all except how long the rp takes to get done since decent porn, like a good battle scene, takes longer to write. The problem this no TS as NPCer rule is aimed at is the problem of staffers spending too much time/attention/story/whatever on a particular PC and neglecting other shit because of it, not whether there is squelch involved.

I mean honestly Oathlands played to the hilt is aggressive honesty plus armor in fashion so yeah.

RE: Sensitivity in gaming
@derp I have no idea where the hand-wringing you are perceiving is occurring. You appear to be reacting hyperbolically to demands that don't - as far as I can tell from my read of this thread - exist.
I don't think anyone has an expectation that GMs will accommodate everyone - or indeed, anyone. What I have seen is a general expectation that players will have an escape route or the option to leave (or FTB) if something is too much for them, and that GMs will be prepared to warn for reasonably common triggers in their content.
I imagine that the points of reasonable disagreement are probably within the details of this spectrum.

RE: Halicron's Rules For Good RP (which be more like guidelines)
You don't need six lines to nod and smile as a decent pose. But if a nod and a smile is your only pose, are you giving your rp partner enough to work with? Clearly it depends on the nod and smile!

RE: MU Things I Love
Staying up way too late RPing a scene with people that just goes all over the place and does so much. Aaaah.

RE: Roleplaying writing styles
I tell a lot with body language etc. rather than thought poses, and use meta primarily to crack jokes at my own character's expense. I'm usually about a paragraph, but will write shorter or longer depending on the mood of the scene.
I CANNOT STAND SECOND PERSON.

RE: Why don't we have a general board game thread anyway?
@Auspice I really enjoy Lords of Waterdeep.
Also, Tales of the Arabian Nights is super fun if you house rule away some of the ... uh, gender issues.

RE: Celebrities that are Dead To Us
Franken really bums me out too. I'm so bummed. And George Takei?! I'm really et tu brute about all this.

RE: FCs on Comic MUs
I really disagree that the only impact those thematic elements would have on those characters is "not making out in public". Identity is a complex and dense issue and even in our relatively more "enlightened time" playing characters with non straight sexualities and gender identities is playing characters shaped by the systemic oppression of their environment.
Like I said ymmv but I do think that if that's the only impact of your thematic universe on your pcs, that would be a different but other reason the game is not for me.

RE: Has anyone ever set up a server just for a small group of friends?
I'm on a sandboxy style Ares setup right now and we aren't quite forum slow but I have found that the existence of the portal does make engagement easier despite the lack of much formal scheduling. So yeah, kinda!
One warning I'd have really is that if you're going to sandbox is that if you want to make sure everyone is on the same page about what that means. Like, are you telling a story together with an overarching plot, are you interacting in a shared universe, are you just using the shared space to do whatever -- all of these are fine, but it's good for everyone to be on the same page about it because otherwise you can end up with weird drama and there's no staff to intervene because... it's a sandbox between friendos.

RE: The Work Thread
I'm a solo attorney practicing alone without admin support. I desperately miss having an assistant of any kind. I always wrote my own briefs but I live in constant paranoia that I'm going to miss a hearing or something due to some dingbat calendaring mistake.
After nine years, I no longer feel like a "fake" attorney putting on suits like playing dressup. I do not know when this transition occurred. Yet I do feel as though impostor syndrome was merely replaced by other anxieties.

RE: Characters You Enjoyed Playing
It's hard to pick from among my babies. I love them all.
I miss my paladin telepath asshole Tom Sikorski most, though, from XMM XF. He was a character whose struggles with identity and morality and anger control took me through a lot of great rp, and iterations of him keep appearing in new characters I write. And his rage fueled some of the best drama of my rp career.

RE: The Work Thread
@Derp Mm. I know some other solos in the general vicinity, but I'm super judgey of other people's practice (like an asshole) and I don't really want to yoke myself to someone who I don't SUPER trust. I'll hang socially with a lot of lawyers but the idea of actually connecting myself to someone else in a way where my professional reputation is tied to theirs is a huge commitment and I'm like eeeeehhhhhhhhh. Plus, I hold a couple of contracts as 'law office of Sao's real name' so I don't need a partner for like... rainmaking or whatever.
I'm working on getting into an office share with some folks so that I won't just be Shroedinger's lawyer in my own house / car / random coffee shops all the time (which is the current setup -- always at work and not at work simultaneously). We'll see how it goes. Mumblemumblemumble.
If I get to a point where income is sustainable I guess I'll try and figure out how the eff employment taxes and stuff work so I can hire someone. I mean I GUESS. I am not enthusiastic about trying to be someone's boss. It sounds awful.

RE: The limits of IC/OOC responsibility
Yeah ... if my character hates someone mostly I'm gonna avoid RPing with them. And if I hate them OOC, I'm DEFINITELY gonna avoid RPing with them. Nobody needs to deal with me venting my spleen. It won't be fun for anyone involved. Even if I get something out of it temporarily I'm probably not going to feel very good about myself afterwards.
