Wasn’t going to post about her but I’d be remiss if I didn’t give Lark credit where it’s due. She went from an austere, very sheltered/closed-minded idealist to… as much of a powerhouse as she could be given her lack of experience -- out of necessity. Suddenly this character (my first L&L character) that I’d written up haphazardly to be fodder for a political marriage (og concept was a bride disgruntled by her match) was suddenly forced to put on a brave face along with me while we free fell together. Watching her defenses fluctuate in the moments where she caved under pressure made for some really rewarding logs, and it was fun while it was fun. I snrk in retrospect at how much foot-dragging and eye-rolling I did about being convinced to play a princess. I have no doubt that she’ll reappear in some new incarnation someday.

Christian @ XFS was this plucky tagalong. An attempt at a light-hearted char but I’m cruel so obviously, his story took a turn for the worst. His power was basically the equivalent of Squirtle’s water gun attack? So, super useful all the time. No creativity needed! The dude’s eyes were always bulging out of his head and his voice was always cracking. I’d be on the other side of the keyboard dying when I’d have him show up to try and be Richard’s sidekick (despite numerous protestations that Rich was not a superhero) doing faux-ninja tuck & rolls in his homemade costume, learning how to play Wonderwall on the guitar. He was ...never the same after he came back from being lost in time smh. Also, his drawn-out mega-crush on Orianne from the above post ^ was so intensely awkward and fumbling.

@Roz Anyways yes anonymous messengers would be awful for the same reason condemn turned out to be awful. They'd just be another way to pile onto someone with no risk of IC reprisal.

@Sunny My tabletop group has used an X Card for a little over a year, now. Nobody's ever utilized it yet but it's a really, really nice guard-rail to have.

The agreement there is that the group moves on to a new topic, though. Not that the person drawing the X Card does. I'm not real sure about how best to adapt it to larger gameplay. It would be cool to!

An anonymous alert system could be interesting. IIII can't personally imagine rping explicit violence, drug use, suicide, sexual themes etc without already having confirmed those involved are comfortable with it.

@three-eyed-crow Personally, I tend to cut people off OOCly before I cut them off ICly. Especially with well-known or repeat offenders. Sure, you can ask me about this thing in-character but no, you no longer have the privilege of paging me to gaslight.

The search for further explanation is just one more sloppy attempt to exert control and victimize, or revictimize, his targets. He actually did receive a reason, at least from SL. It was a Rihanna meme!

In addition to the roster character he was banned on, he could be attributed to five additional logins, not including those rosters he claimed post-banning.

I honestly believe that the players on Arx absolutely would.

@Meg Did I ever tell you about the time I kept discovering baby opossums in my house? The first time, I was in the basement doing laundry and both cats were skulking around supervising me. There's a litter box down there and I heard somebody kicking y'know using it... It took me a good several minutes to realize that it wasn't either of the cats. This little oppossum smaller then my shoe comes sashaying out like, "What's up guys? What's goin on? I'm just being casual."

The next time it happened, I was in the kitchen with friends over. There was music blasting and lights all on. Another little creature walked right across the kitchen floor to eat the cat food. The cats just started queuing up behind it all wall-eyed waiting their dumb turns to eat.

This happened like five times. I kept driving them to new and distant locations.

Honestly, I'd say if you are having this inner conflict at all... there is an issue that needs to be communicated. My rules for these types of situations (which I never follow) are 1) establish what action I am going to take "if it happens again" which I guess is just establishing boundaries 101 and 2) don't be a mindreader. And definitely don't Jessica Jones this shit.

@cobaltasaurus I like PB provided. I think a visual aid can help a char stand out more to prospective players even if they end up changing it. Also, with roster chars who are POC, it can detract from whitewashing entering the equation.

@caryatid we're both so scared
