    • RE: The Work Thread

      I narc-ed on some children who didn't finish their test today by texting their parents. At the end I included, "If you have questions call me at X."

      Ten minutes later I get a phone call.

      child "Hello Mrs."

      Mrs. "Hey Y, what's up? How can I help you?"

      child "I think you know..."

      Mrs. "Yup! Let's get that math test open."

      I've had a panic attack every day for the last week, but this made me laugh so I'm gonna cling to it.

      @wildbaboons

      I def. had to google a few names, especially at the start as I tried to remember who all everyone was just on Roshar, let alone the rest of the cosmere.

      Brandon Sanderson: I hate you so much.

      I just finished Rhythm of War.

      Now I need to go reread all of the cosmere books because there was so much cross world connection that I can't not.

      Ugh. IT IS SO MANY BOOKS. (I am not actually complaining.)

      I will not be reading anything else for the next few months. Excuse me as I cancel every loan at the library.

      Dice are magical things that are unknowable. Regardless if you can see every number or not.

      I know all of these things at a purely mental level, but my heart for sure isn't feeling it.

      Thanks. ❤

      Could you have someone "virtually" holding your hand? A friend standing by on Zoom or such?

      Thank you so much work, for making me give this assessment, just so I can know how badly I'm failing as an online teacher.

      I really envy the females in my family. My mother quits BEAUTIFULLY. My older sister does Stained Glass, my younger sister paints, and my youngest sister knits.

      I missed the craft gene completely. I envy people who have it. #envyenvyenvy

      @Arkandel

      36x6. And that is with several books already archived.

      So 216 books.

      I've had my nook for 10 years. I honestly love it to death. It is hard to cuddle in bed with a regular book, and harder to travel. My nook though? I've got hundreds of titles and if I see something in an airport bookstore I want I don't have to juggle my things to get to fit, I just buy it with my e-reader. My standard "gift" is a bn gift card kthanks upon which I blow and gobble books.

      @TNP

      We make cleaning easy with two things.

      1. We buy a disposable turkey pan every year.
      2. We cut up the turkey in that pan.

      Then when we have the meat off, we take the whole pan, stuff it in a garbage sack, and toss it out. The carver still has to wash their hands, but, that is about the extent of the clean-up.

    • RE: Favorite/Most Memorable Childhood Books

      I was never into poetry as a kid, but when I became a teacher Silverstein's were THE poetry books to have in your classroom so of course when I inherited them they stayed.

      Last year I did a poetry unit with my higher readers (3rd grade acting on 5th/6th grade levels) from one of my favorite literacy sites that was all about finding the themes in Shel Silverstein's work. That's when I finally //got// it. Their poems are silly and wacky, but when you look past the silly, so many are about being a child in a world of adults. Reading it through a child's eyes (aka, my students) gave me such a deeper appreciation. I'll keep those books always in my library now and introduce them to my own kids if I'm ever able to have them.

      The damsel in distress character has always been my LEAST favorite ever.

      But ngl, I'm cackling like mad over people wanting to protect my granny character. It's not that far from the same thing, so some mild guilt here but also.... I'm laughing so hard.
