One of my former admins visited my current school today on a scouting mission for a new school she is starting. She walked into my room and it was like OMG YOU I LOVE YOU. Just a random happy moment. I adored working for her even though the school itself didn't work out for me.

    • RE: PC vs Player Assumptions

I'm reading and what I'm reading is not really what I was meaning, so I think maybe I didn't understand the conversation.

I'm talking about not knowing things that are written in theme/documentation files but I didn't know they exist, but it is assumed it is general knowledge.

For example: WoD, I tried a werewolf. (Meh, trying, it is going poorly exactly because of stuff like this.) When I read about the forms of the werewolf I had a misunderstanding about full wolf form and then the halfway form. So I posed one way, only for it to be totally 100% the wrong thing. It became super obvious in the next few poses my understanding was wrong because everyone kept posing the other way. But my character had been a werewolf for yeeaarrsss. She would have known better, but I didn't.

That is the kind of thing that fucks me up and makes it super hard for me to continue a scene. I'm upset with myself for getting stupid stuff like that wrong.

@Auspice I totally get what you say about STers and so many personalities. I don't ever expect the ST to reach out and ask me anything. However, I do appreciate when it does happen, and then if they can help me fix it.

I know it's not logical but I get REALLY upset when //I// misunderstand something that once it's explained to me, my character WOULDN'T have understood. I feel like I failed my character and it shatters the immersion completely.

I really appreciate when people realize that It's me-the-player fucking up and lets me fix it so everything can stay IC. Little things, fine, whatever, I can roll. Big theme related things? Nope. Anxiety goes through the roof and I almost can't keep going.

I know this isn't for everyone, but I really do appreciate having a paged conversation out of the blue. Like, I like being reminded that there's a real person on the other side of the screen. Without those conversations I find it ~really~ difficult to get into an RP groove with someone.

I don't know what it is.

But I appreciate being paged out of the blue to just... talk.

Honestly? I think it's simply because they don't know the kids as well as their classroom teacher should.

      Solution.

They need to get to know the kids too... this is also possible.

@Ganymede said in Health and Wealth and GrownUp Stuff:

I expect a school nurse to take a more scientific approach to determining whether you need to make me re-arrange my schedule thus pissing off my clients.

You'd think, right? But no. I avoid sending my kids to our "nurse" (who is actually just our secretary who over sees the area with the little plastic bed) like the plague. Most of the times it's work avoidance.

Things that aren't acceptable reasons to send them:

      1. My head hurts. -- "I'm sorry that's happening. Go get some water."
      2. I don't feel good. -- "What doesn't feel good?" (If they can't tell me, then we're going to go with 'you're fine' till they can give me something more.)
      3. I feel sick. -- "What does 'sick' mean right now?" (Same as above, if they can't tell me what exactly is wrong, then we're going to go with fine.)
      4. I'm bleeding. -- "Band-aids are in the black bag. Let me know if you need help."
      5. My stomach hurts. -- "Okay, go to the bathroom and we'll see how you feel after <insert recess/lunch here>."
      6. I think I'm going to throw up. -- "Okay, go do it." (Weirdly, they never take me up on this. And never throw up if they give me warning first. If they're REALLY going to toss cookies, it's gonna happen right there at their desk.)
      7. My throat hurts. -- "I'm sorry that's happening. Go get some water."

Like, you can tell the difference between a kid that needs a hug and a moment of down-time from a kiddo who is HONESTLY SICK. It's possible.

But really, no, not really, not for me. I'm just super sensitive even if it isn't "real".

I am REALLY sensitive to visual violence and gore. I just can't. Husband was watching 911 and I looked up just ONCE and burst into uncontrollable sobbing and still can't stop.

      ❤

The kids are almost always awesome. Even when they are being awful there is usually a good reason behind it that isn't totally in the kid's control. My students this year are extra awesome. (Maybe because they are younger and thus sweeter but, no matter. )

NGL, my over protective streak wonders why the school let them go home without the assigned supervision. x.x
