@Arkandel That depends entirely on scale of the game, and how detailed you want those rooms to be. There is no correct scale, but you know all that.

Fallen World recently dropped from 40ish? gridsquares down to 20ish, representing the island of Manhattan. Considering the size and scale and all, I think 20ish is a pretty good number, both to represent a big city and also to house the player base.

Another way to look at it is something like... What are the archetypal "areas" of a city, through the lens of a MU? A park, rich neighborhood, poor neighborhood, hip neighborhood, middle-of-the-road neighborhood, bordering the "wilderness", college area, government buildings. I might be missing a few, but that sounds about right. You then take that list and say you need 2-3 of most of those, to offer an option to players. That puts us nearish 20. So... It's a good number for a base grid!

This is probably self-horn-tooty but... I'm really pleased with the number of people returning, and the number of new players joining. Still small, but finding a scene seems pretty easy. Players hanging about are friendly and helpful. It's good.

Also, way to go @SunnyJ on the wiki revamp. Looks great.

    • RE: +repose command for TinyMux

Major update. Basically my whole way of capturing + storing poses was wrong and backwards. Now using objeval() and some manual securing via edit() (to remove square brackets) and storing the evaluated pose as an attribute.

If anyone is actually using this (which, really, I think it's just my games), please just treat it as a reinstall. You don't need to redo the initial setup, but changes were made to 5? 6? attributes. You should be able to just copy+paste into Muxify (on firefox, if you're using Windows) and it should work, but ya know.

      Should.

Updated... Still on Arx as Mae. Cassius has been surrendered back to the roster. For anyone that's curious, still enjoying Arx, just didn't have the energy to keep playing a leadership type.

@ixokai I think @tragedyjones plan for his next MU was to have like 3 rooms total.

On some games (say, Arx), people walkyhr grid and it seems to matter. On other games (like, every WoD game I've played), the grid becomes rather much like a vague frame that is all but ignored, in favor of builds on the grid, or temprooms.

So! For WoD games? I'd love a better solution. I just don't have one.

    • RE: Loggers

@ixokai Awesome! Good. We have something very similar (older, maybe? I don't even know) that doesn't format names into the wiki-friendly stuff.

@ixokai @Arkandel There are some services that let you simply open your LocalSettings.php in the browse, without access anything. It's all GUI, as well. This is what I'm getting at. Or trying to get at.

@ixokai Does the web app have anything built in, like file transfer, or the ability to edit common files, like LocalSettings.php? Also, does it allow you to choose a base server image that already has WikiMedia installed on it?

When you say SSH shell, PHP/MySQL... you mean, access directly to those things through the website?

Digital Oceans has been good so far. It's easy, it's cheap (like, $14/mo). I connect via KiTTy, though there is a built in console (SSH) that you can use.

I know some of the various hosts have some sort of interface built into the web portal that allows you to do things like modify LocalSettings.php, transfer files, etc. Digital Oceans does allow you to access a console, but that's about it. So, it is a little more hands on, but I picked it up quick enough.

    • RE: Loggers

@Thenomain I don't think it pose tracks, but it does allow something like +repose. And it definitely lets you input additional information that gets output in a wiki-friendly format, based on the Template:Log that seems to have spread everywhere.

Auto-grabbing the cast list would be nice, tho.

    • RE: Loggers

Small suggestion... I'm not sure if M1963 uses a wiki, but if you are utilizing a wiki, I threw together a command I call +getcast, which basically grabs not only the list of players in the room, but then processes their +finger information to pull their wiki site. It then outputs [[Page Name|Bit Name]].

If the logs are getting posted on the wiki, it really saves some annoyance.

    • RE: How to use Potato MU Client

@Wolfs In your events, make sure you check the box marked "Continue". Basically, if unchecked, it processes that one event and stops. Ie, it gets to coloring your name, or the page itself, and stops. If you click continue, it will process that event then move on to the next one.

@Thenomain When I played on that SW MU, it would often strip out carriage returns from poses, on and off, sort of at random. Recently, some update to Evennia also had Arx eating up carriage returns and not adding posebreak carriage returns. They got it resolved, I think, but it was happening.

@rebekahse Sorry for the very delayed response... That does not happen on mine.

What MU are you on? Any chance it's the MU itself doing it?

Semi Code Update: I broke the server, like, seriously, like 7 times. Totally killed stuff.

      But, uh, it's fixed.

To the peanut gallery: Is there any stuff that forgets to get added to a wiki that becomes exceedingly obnoxious to add later? I've already changed the address to /wiki/article (instead of /index.php/article), I've added namespaces... anything else?

https://trello.com/ coooooould work? Certainly lets you create lots and lots of cards that you can then add entries under. Assuming you're not logging a lot of information (I doubt you would, as it has to fit on a trading card, right?) it might work.
