RE: Mage 2e game - The Golden Road
@Derp If you're at 3, and cast a level 3 spell, you get 1 free reach. That's almost always going to be used for "Instant". If you want to, say, cast it by sight, or use it on more than one person, or make it last more than 2 turns... you have to reach. Reach, reach, reach.
@Auspice I suggested above having a tracker for paradox. I think it'd be rad.

Paradox is meant to be a boogeyman, but it's also meant to be pretty rare...
Is it? It is very difficult to do much anything at low level gnosis/arcana rating without reaching. It becomes nigh impossible to do much of your high level magic without reaching. Unless you're continually casting spells 2+ levels below where you're at, you're risking paradox.

RE: Mage 2e game - The Golden Road
@chibichibi Was going to say I sure don't know you, so can't possibly hate you. But I do know you, and don't think I hate you!
You were on FW, you saw how that went. You also saw the feedback in the planning for Chicago whatever CofD game I can't remember the name. I think you got a good grasp on what players do and don't want, and what (most importantly) you do and don't want. I think, so long as you make it very clear what kind of game you're playing (wherein the ST/GM/whatever maintains tight control over the story), you'll be just fine.
For the sake of ease of read, I offered some suggests on another thread. Just copy+pasting them here:
- Paradox: As @Auspice says, paradox really lacks teeth in a game where there's so much downtime. We came up with a new system where each time you contain paradox, it doesn't go away, but stays in your pattern. Each time you would roll paradox dice, they get added to your personal counter, and you roll dice for each counter you have. This continues to build up until it's released.
- Arcana caps. Like we did in FW, I think a hard limit on Arcana by Gnosis is a great idea.
- Spirits and ghosts need to withstand with resistance stat, not rank. Rank is just way too easy, and a baby mage can toss around massive spirits with ease.
- Magic items... need to be deal with in some way that we never finished dealing with. They can be a serious pita.

RE: How to use Potato MU Client
@TheOnceler I do not see any way to control that.
@Goldfish I'm not sure what you're talking about. My cursor in Potato seems to be the same as it is here, in MSB? Note that cursor flash rate should be controlled by Windows.
@Alamias That's been mentioned before it does that. Nothing to change it. And @Tinuviel it's not really noticeable unless you have spent a while on a client that doesn't. In the evenings I use a lil MacBook, with Atlantis. When you look at a room it just appears on screen all at once in one "flash". If you look at a room in Potato, it scrolls down very quickly, but still scrolls.

@skew
It comes with an Ajob-alike system, but it's not Ajobs specifically. No?
Can you show me what you're talking about? SGP comes with like 9 objects on it and nothing more. Will be happily proved wrong.

RE: Alamias' Playlist
Heya! I played Claudio on The Reach. Kept thinking I'd ran into you here and there... And now I actually know it's you! Much excite.
I'm on Mist Echoes Portland as Viorica.

RE: How to use Potato MU Client
@Ruggles is reporting the above simply does not work on PennMUSH. Is anyone out there playing a PennMUSH game that could check?
The
[/get 0]
is what seems to be failing. If you set up the above to just sendsay [/get 0]
it should work. Though now that I type I do hope ol' Ruggles was using a zero and not a letter! -

@ruggles said in How to use Potato MU Client:
Can you do a /macro that accepts an argument? Like a target?
I talked to Ruggles on my MU, pitched a solution. For anyone else interested in this question...
Potato can set up events (as outlined here in numerous places). If you set up an event with:
Pattern:macroname *
then set up the send field like so...
Send:+dothething [/get 0]
You can then use
think macroname <target>
and your potato will grab watch for "macroname <something>" on screen. if it sees it, it'll then send the supplied text. You can then use;
in most MUs to send multiple commands in a row.Hope that makes sense to someone besides me...

RE: Mage for Multi-Sphere WoDv2 Games
@derp I think it requires more work than some spheres. Some baddies are easier for a player to handle in PRP form. Some spheres have a lot more ability to perpetuate themselves. The classic example is vampires and their fighting and politicking and squabbling and all that. There's a lot of entertainment there that requires less staff interaction.
That said, I personally think a vampire game would be a LOT more fun with more code elements, to manage your territories and blood pool and all that. Just the same, I think mage could benefit from it, too. Some mini-game like tools to keep players going when the big stuff from staff isn't in front of them.

I don't believe it's even coded in yet.
While it hasn't been extensively tested, nWoD Mage 2e is coded. I think. I'm pretty sure. I've had some reasonable requests from other people about it, but haven't managed to do anything with it.
I helped run an entire game using you Mage 2e code.
Yes, it's coded. Yes, it works. Unless you broke it in the interim!

@derp said in Mage for Multi-Sphere WoDv2 Games:
You just need a better class of staffers
Emphasis mine. I think on the one hand, this is laughable. On the other, it really is the truth of it. Mage is exhausting. You need a group that's very committed to keeping the story going, so, just like Derp said, you can hit that sweet spot. Just, finding that group of active, motivated, creative staffers? Well...
When @Coin @tragedyjones and I were working on a new CofD 2E game, I did put together some house rules.

It reads like demanding if you want an argument or you want to feel attacked, I guess.
If responding to an ad thread with a request for additional information, and "a request for something more in a throwaway style" are now the same thing... and reading them as not is wanting an argument or playing victim... what can I say but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
-
RE: Echoes in the Mists - Discussion
@auspice It's because it started with "Put Mage in there, and I might be interested.", not "Are Mages allowed?"
@Zaroot's tone reads to me as demanding, not a simple request for information.
I'm not trying to fight, just pointing out why it mattered to me enough to comment.

@auspice I mean, I think that hopping onto someone's ad thread and being like "but why don't you have the sphere I want!" is also kind of shitting on someone's thing. It boggles me every time it happens on every new WoD game thread.
What Roz said. I don't see "Eugh, but Mage sucks on a MU" as less valid than "Eugh, why didn't you put Mage in your MU".

The easiest way to install aJobs on a Mux is to install the SGP flatfile. SGP is a good-enough starting package and it comes with BB, aJobs, and MyrdCron installed.
I really do not think it does. When I did my ChimeMUX, I used the SGP flatfile, and I still had to install aJobs.

Mage would be awesome single sphere.
Were you on Fallen World? I'm not saying we did everything right, but it was rough ina single sphere mage game. Even with low level magic (people starter at 3-4 in their arcanum), it was still a lot of "hand wave and the problem is fixed". Then at higher levels it was trying to continually reshape the entire world... while 20 mages do it all at once. It got crazy and hard and
-
RE: Echoes in the Mists - Discussion
@killer-klown very much agree. Mage is awesome! But very hard on a MU. You basically need to severely limit what you can do (which, then, that's MORE work), or a team of STs to work on mage specifically.
Tho... changeling 2e is our, right?

RE: AnomJobs - Trouble With Installation
@bobotron @Highfalutin
you should be pasting the file into muxify, probably. Is that what you're doing? -
RE: TinyMUX: @descformat and @parent
@derp To expand on that... you can use a
@descformat
in the parent room that the child rooms pulls. Which means, you set up "stuff" to appear in the parent room, it appears in all the child rooms.A quick example would be, say, you wanted to have "stats" for a grid square, which included... safety, resources, etc. You set it on the parent and it displays on each child. You don't need to add it to each child.
Just the same, for a player parent, you could set the descformat to include something like what Fate's Harvest had in
+glance
, with your height, weight, etc, to be in the descformat. Then a player sets their desc (description in long form), and when you looked at them, you'd see the descformat automatically, then the long form desc.Only, as Theno explains, it was eating all the spaces and so instead of
Eyes: Blue Hair: Brown
It would come out
Eyes: Blue Hair: Brown
Hope that helps.
