Or late to work because you accidentally got dressed in the wrong order because you're wearing a slightly different outfit and you fucked up the stack so you have to start all over again and redo your whole routine... and no, you can't just remove the last item. You have to redo everything.

      Wait, this is OCD?

'cause, er, I do this. I actually get my clothes for the next day out in the evening and lay them out stacked in the appropriate order so that everything's right there already sorted. Because while I don't force myself to get re-dressed if I do them in the wrong order, the knowledge that I did do them in the wrong order will bother me all day.

I've always figured that was just me being a little weird.

POTATO Y U BREAK IN OSX?!?!

Because it wants you to use Atlantis like a proper client.

I want my double input windows gdi.

Atlantis 2 allows arbitrary numbers of input windows.

Y'know, if I ever finish it.

I'll be honest, I have really mixed feelings about the current system involving paying for investigation efforts with Luck Points.

My understanding—as a player—is that Luck Points only need to be spent for buying GM time outside of the time they're already spending on a plot. So, in order to do "Thing X" relating to a plot, you just post it to the plot actions thread (and they take it into account in the next round of GM'ing).

If you want to do something outside of what they're already GM'ing ("yes, everyone else is looking into <thing for plot X currently being GM'd>, but I want to look into <other thing unrelated to plot, related to character secret>"), those are when you need to spend luck points. Basically buying extra GM time outside of the time they've set aside for GM'ing for plots.

Asking one of the staffers on game will probably get a more definitive answer, though; this is just my interpretation of the page on luck points and the post they made.

Finishing out an evening by watching an episode of your favorite web-series that has made the fandom lose their collective minds... after which you will go fly to another city in order to watch a one-shot of said web-series live.

(I don't have a Critical Role problem you have a Critical Role problem and I CAN STOP ANYTIME I WANT DON'T YOU JUDGE ME.)

((Besides, there's no such thing as too much D&D.))

Sitting together with the rest of staff to plan a number of interesting reveals for weeks ahead of time, having most of staff running NPCs simultaneously (some handling several at once!) for four hours, and watching the playerbase lose their minds (in a good way) over the results. That was a lot of work, but the payoff in player enthusiasm made the work well worth it.

(Though I am now fully expecting a ton of IC messengers asking questions of those various NPCs over the next few days.)

I truly wanted to have to spend probably a couple of hours picking chunks of purple pastel out of my cream colored carpet fibers, before I can pre treat the demon summoning circle that my 4 year old drew on the living room floor.

I mean, the silver lining is that clearly the kid is a prodigy; it's nice to see aspiring young cultists starting their careers early. Just think, by the time they're 7, they'll probably have at least one imp bound as a familiar!

    • RE: Pueblo IAC Code Sequence for MUX?

If I remember right, Pueblo watches for the "This world is Pueblo X.Y enabled." message on the connect screen and then sends a PUEBLOCLIENT command (or something similar) in order to enable HTML support.

It's not a telnet IAC sequence, at any rate.

I've been trying to think up some concepts, but it's hard!

I'm thinking something medical-related. Anyone have some ideas?

There's two doctors to link up with; Dr. Alice Elliott is a trauma surgeon at the health center in Granby, and Dr. Summer Lopez is a general practitioner doing family medicine there. Both just moved into the area and took up those jobs (though Summer was born in Grand Lake and moved away when she was eight).

I'm playing a fresh-out-of-medical-school doctor who's just moved back from California; she's been having these dreams that she chalked up to homesickness...

So if anyone is the right age and wants to have been early-childhood friends (from before Summer's dad moved them away when she was eight), I'm open to connections!

    • RE: YA Fantasy Recommendations

@aria said in YA Fantasy Recommendations:

Ironically, I was just looking at the Throne of Glass series because it's apparently won the Goodreads choice awards for YA Fantasy for four years running. Is it really that bad?

Honestly, I enjoyed the Throne of Glass books enough to read the whole set, though I preferred the earliest ones; they're hardly in my top favorite series, but neither do I regret reading them. Still, there's definitely some truth that the power levels some of the characters—in particular the main one—are throwing around by the last books are a bit ridiculous; the cast at the start of the books are basically level 3 D&D characters, and a not-insignificant amount of the cast around at the end of the books are pretty much level 20 D&D characters (with all that implies).

The Raven Cycle is superb, though. And if you want some YA science fiction I did enjoy Brandon Sanderson's latest, Skyward.

@arkandel said in What series are you reading?:

@auspice I know how to use the googles, but can you guys give an idea of what the series is about in a non-spoiler-y way? Like, the genre or general plot?

The Grisha trilogy is about politics and magic and the misuse of both; it's what I think of as a more 'mainstream' fantasy series, but quite enjoyable, especially as the worldbuilding in general is very good. (It also sort of covers how much it sucks to find yourself being hailed as the "Chosen One" in any significant way.)

Six of Crows is like... the most succinct and non-spoilery way I can put it is to imagine a heist movie—or Leverage—set in the same world as the Grisha books. Sort of. Even that description doesn't really do the book justice, because it's still not quite right. It reminds me a bit of The Lies of Locke Lamora, which I also loved.

(But I liked Six of Crows better.)

@auspice said in What series are you reading?:

But y'all, the world of this book is what has drawn me in. I like the characters, too, but it's the world that's got me. I'm gonna keep reading (go on to the next book and then circle back to the other trilogy).

While the first of the Six of Crows books does not require reading the Grisha trilogy, the second one does benefit from it, btw. Not enough so that you won't appreciate the second book without reading the trilogy first, but there's bits you'll appreciate a lot more if you've read the Grisha books.

(As for the review in general, I concur wholeheartedly: I really love Six of Crows.)

If you or someone you know plays MUSHes with a screen reader or other accessibility device, I would love to get feedback about how to make AresMUSH more accessible to everyone. Feel free to PM me or post here or on the Ares forums.

One of the Evennia devs uses a screenreader (hence why accessibility is baked into Evennia's codebase); if no one else turns up, I imagine one of us can reach out to him and see if he can help with feedback on accessibility.

Oh man there was a girl (prob. 12-14 years old) a few seats down from me who, during a scene between Miles and Gwen, was whispering to herself "Kiss kiss kiss kiss kiss"

      I about died.

It's canon! Gwen has a way to wander into the main Marvel dimension, and she and Miles... well.
