      Depression.

Especially depression you fight against for weeks and weeks only to have it get way worse when put on a new anti-depressant. (Then you get off the new anti-depressant, and you're back where you started, and then you get to try a new medication instead!)

Just... bleh. I have not felt fit for human contact since early January, and acting like I am still functioning normally at work is getting exhausting.

@Sparks A lot of good feelings?

Let's just say that right now, I'm emotionally invested in a particular part of the storyline.

Medications with a lengthy list of possible side effects.

Doubly so if you end up with roughly 80% of that lengthy list.

Quintuple-y so if those side effects include making the original problem way worse. (For instance, an antidepressant should ideally not cause 'increased depression and potential suicidal ideation'.)

Bonus if surprise snow kept the doctor's office closed so you couldn't call and get permission to stop taking said medication.

@Sunny that was how the impromptu memorial at my company ended: "You were a good robot, and you won't be alone forever. We're coming to find you ourselves, soon."

@Kanye-Qwest it's on the list, but we have to move all the furniture out to do that, and uuuuugh. Only the "we made this the gating thing we must do before getting a dog again" is keeping us going on prep for that.

It is encouraging a massive decluttering though. Gonna purge almost all my physical books that aren't signed or really old (1890's edition of Burton, first editions of the Oz books, etc.), for instance.

I have been cooped up in this house with this for nearly 2 weeks because of snowed in-ness--and now their mid-winter break begins. It is a safari at my house, and I am ready to run away. 😛

I was stuck mostly in my house for two weeks due to snow, so I sympathize.

What drove me crazy was we were supposed to have work done on the house; we'd made an appointment and dismantled the home offices—including unplugging and moving the computers—and then due to snow they had to reschedule to a week and a half later. So instead of dismantling things for a couple of days, everything's been moved around furniture-wise for two weeks, and I haven't had my desktop computer that whole time.

No one's fault, but man, that was annoying timing!

@faraday — the old 32-bit version works fine on Mojave, and everything I used it for still worked for me too. But with the next OS release it would've stopped doing so, thus I really needed to get it ported to more up to date APIs anyway. Better to work the kinks out now rather than rushing when the next OS version hits.

(I am considering when I get everything cleaned up just bundling all the dependencies into the main source tree and then turning my github repository public, make it open source.)

@Goldfish - I'm actually glad to hear that; it'll let me track down the issue more easily. If it was affecting both events and the native interface for defining spawns (they feed through the same parser, however the specialized events created by the Spawns tab are less flexible but more easily created); since Spawns work fine, I can focus on the parts of the Event system that aren't in that flow. Narrows down where to look!

A correction to my previous post: I can't make events at all. Not at the Global, World or Character level. I crash every time. So spawn windows are out for me too.

Are you saying the Spawns tab is also broken? I was able to add spawns fine (though remove was broken in some cases; an issue I fixed in my current code tree and which will be in rc5).

Or do you do all your spawn logic through the Events system?

Okay, so for rc5 the things I need to get in are:

      • Sparkle auto update
      • Convert font metric calculations from old style float to new style CGFloat (i.e. double)
      • Investigate why log closing only closes all logs
      • Investigate why global events might not work for some folks.
      • Investigate why Lemuria docking is broken (I.e. tearing off a spawn and having it vanish into the Land of Wind and Ghosts.)

Anything else I'm missing? If not, I'll try to work on those this weekend some.

tmw you realize that virtually any mush scenario you spitball has an accompanying music number from either "Galavant" or "Crazy Ex Girlfriend".

Honestly, I have no idea how Galavant got green-lit in the first place, much less how it managed a second season. I consider that a gift from the universe.

Office doggos on a really bad day.

Sure, certain things are potentially on fire (and I mean that literally, not metaphorically) and I kind of want to hide under my desk, but I got love and kisses from a giant affectionate floof (who I hadn't seen in a while because she is the rarest of office dogs). Also a golden retriever who lay down and rolled on his back because he wanted belly rubs. And a little dachshund who sat down at my feet and wanted his head scratched.

Office doggos make everything a little better.

@jphuygh Yeah, I just discovered that the tear-and-drop behavior is broken in the 64-bit version. So I have to look into that. In the meantime, if you go to Atlantis -> Preferences -> Windowing, you can disable the ability to tear spawns out of a window, which will prevent that. (If you don't routinely rip spawns out of one window to make a second window, it's probably reasonable to turn that off anyway.)

@Goldfish yay! I still have a last few fixes to get to so everything works properly again, and to integrate Sparkle in case I need to do future updates (since my ancient check for updates code no longer works under modern macOS); once that's done, I'll release an rc5. And if that works well for people, I'll roll out an actual build.

@Goldfish I will try to get to Dark Mode eventually, but I have to rewrite the Lemuria modular windowing library I wrote, which the whole nested spawn mechanic is built around. Sadly, Lemuria 2 (which I wrote for the still-not-done Atlantis 2 clean rewrite) has a wildly different API. Plus is in Swift rather than Objective-C.
