@tehom If I remember right from when I first set up an Arx sandbox, before I started using sandbox copies of the real database, it's the path for part of the event logs code (server/logs/rpevents) not existing that causes that.

RE: General Video Game Thread
I still think ME3 would've had a more interesting ending if they went with Simulation Theory; the universe of the Mass Effect trilogy was a simulation, thus everyone was synthetic life; the program was to run various civilization models, and the Reapers were the code that every so often came through to wipe it clean on a cycle and see what happened with the remains of those civilizations as the 'seeds' for the next ones. And so the Crucible would've let you reach out to try to convince the entities who were running the simulation to let this round of civilizations live.
I mean, it wouldn't necessarily have been a good ending, but it would've been an interesting one.

RE: Online character sheets?
Yeah, if this is for 5e, count one more for D&D Beyond. I use it for the campaign I run for co-workers at work, and it has been a godsend.
(Plus, it has a hilarious animated advertisement done in the style of 80's cartoon openings, thanks to Critical Role.)

So, anyone who uses the Steam Link app on Android to play Steam games on your phone, it no longer requires a hardware controller as of the just-released version v1.1.110, at least provided you're using the beta version of the Steam client.
(I know, I know, no one else here uses it, probably.)

Now, what about tabs or spaces, camelCasing or PascalCasing, Li-nux or Lin-ux and more!
LET THE BLOODSPORTS BEGIN
Guido might have retired, but that hasn't stopped the violent gangs of devotees who lynch developers for flagrant violations of PEP8. Not a day goes by that you can't find a new victim's mangled body with a sign on them saying 'USED CAMELCASE FOR VARIABLES' or the like. I might disapprove of their methods, but I agree with them in principle.
Even PyCharm itself will yell at you for PEP8 violations!

@icanbeyourmuse Just so you know, if you don't like/is not familiar with Linux, you can run Evennia (and thus Arx) on both Windows and Mac too.
.
GriatchIndeed, I do all my code-work for Arx on a macOS box. You can even step-debug your code natively in PyCharm if you set things up right!

But for whatever reason, Steam will just constantly flash '<name> is now playing....' for it.
I had to finally shut off the notifications. I kept seeing you (and about 4 other friends) pop up on my screen every few seconds and it was driving me mad.
It's very annoying that it does that. It even does it when we're playing the game. WITH THOSE FRIENDS.
Still, it's pre fun!
Yeah, it's forced me to turn off the notifications too, for precisely that reason.
"Friend is now playing Monster Hunter World!" Thank you, Steam, I know; we're wailing on an Anjanath together right now!

RE: General Video Game Thread
So, the Monster Hunter World port for PC is out, and more solid than I expected. Performance is good! Joining up with friends is marginally less obnoxious than it was on the PS4 (but still obnoxious)!

No? Huh. It was when I last tried it. Which is when it was slower than dirt. I’ll check it again and edit this post when I’m at a computer, or more likely a Mac user will reply with more details.
As far as I know, Potato has always been built on Tcl/Tk?

Raising the topic from the dead to ask:
- Is there any way of adding a custom word wrap to new worlds without changing the actual size of the client window?
I've got some MU*s that have super elegant in game word wrapping, and some which have decided that +sheet and other misc info should equal the entire width of the client window no matter what. The (un)readability is driving me bonkers and slowing me down. Is there a way of changing this without resizing the window? (I like to keep things full screen, and have a lot of blank client space to the side.)
Sadly, no... I apologize. The Atlantis 2 prototype I've been writing does allow manual wordwrap instead of width-of-screen, but the original Atlantis doesn't.
(However, Atlantis 2 has been taking me so long, I might just try to get Atlantis 1 updated to 64-bit and then once that's done, see about adding a few of the most-requested features as a sort of tide-folks-over release.)

I listen to an actual play podcast based on one of my favorite sci fi stories, run by the creator for many of his actors.
Out of curiosity, which one is that?

RE: List of active MU for a client database.
I mean, another alternative would be a database which stores all the information, and has an endpoint that retrieves the database in each format. So you have, say, /worlds/v1 that returns revision 1 of your world format, and if you have to change the format to add extra stuff you just add /worlds/v2 that returns the data in revision 2 of your world format . And if they're backed by the same database, the data stays up to date in both. You could even have a way to report outdated or dead games, or submit new ones.
At which point, you've basically rewritten a minimalist Mudstats type service, admittedly, but mudstats with an API you could poll in your client.

Once again, Tabletop Simulator with Discord chat is the shit. Hearing people I've Mu*d with laugh and swear at each other (at the same time) has amazing healing properties.
Bravo, you glorious jerks.
I think just "gaming with friends, with voice chat" in general hits this for me. Be it ARK, or Warframe, or Tabletop Simulator, or real tabletop via Roll20 or something, hearing the laughter of your friends is a wonderful thing.
I ran around an island taming dinosaurs tonight with my guild, got eaten by a pack of raptors, and spent a couple of hours shrieking and laughing over it all. Fun times.

@cobaltasaurus said in Arx: @clues:
@Sparks Gave me one of the most chilling clues in the game (imho) but it's only so chilling because of the context that comes with that clue. It's akin to real world when you find out why the story behind "Ring Around the Rosie".
Was that Hush, Hush that you're referencing? I'm still rather happy with that clue.
Honestly, clues are not the be-all and end-all. They're nice because they can be used in other systems (not all of them obvious like revelations are), but they're much more fun if you have the context for them. They're there as an avenue to learn more about the bits of the game that interest you, and to share your knowledge with others, but trying to have every one of the 1200 clues there are so far would be a recipe for madness. Especially since people will try to assume that all clues must form a single cohesive truth, which isn't the case; there are many plotlines, and many different clues tied to those many different plotlines.
It's far more effective to focus on the storyline that interests your specific character through research and actions, rather than spreading your attention across everything. That way lies madness and paralysis.
