I don't hate FCs either, I think there are some games where it's appropriate. Dragon Age is not one of those games.

@Steel It's fun for the person playing it. The audience, not so much. If they can do such amazing things with a FC, just imagine how awesome they'd do with their own PC.

I don't think it's bad staff policy to refuse to bend to the what-ifs and the past traumas. I disagree that it's bad. It's not bad. The gossips and the rumormongers are the ones in the wrong, even if they are viewed as a fact of life. The people abusing their power are wrong. Just because somebody else did it somewhere does not mean I have to limit my storytelling.

So when Vladmilda the Vampiress decides to seduce the Prince, and then the prince and she spend hours and hours TSING (as opposed tro rolling seduction as per the rules of the game) there are a number of complications that can happen.

I would rather address the complications that could arise than remove an option from my toolkit or the toolkits of my staffers as a storyteller.

Caught myself as I was falling, shoulder gave out, finished falling. Had no range of motion yesterday all the way to my fingers and was in a ridiculous amount of pain. I seem to just be sore today, and can move my hand and arm and stuff again. That was so scary. ^^ Getting old (and clumsy) SUCKS.

@lordbelh There's a story, but I'm too tired to tell it. I'm not really interested in any more drama than 'hey folks, I don't endorse this anymore'. Sorry, I know dirt is fun.

To be clear, I wasnt being accusatory to anyone, so with that in mind, I'll clarify.

I mean the whole "X player doesn't play with Y player for this reason, Y doesn't play with players A C T V and X". For whatever reason it is, there's a lot of players with undisclosed/disclosed ooc issues with each other that can result in:

"X player can play with A M and F so long as U and T are there, but O doesn't like M, so they don't want M coming to events, even if M and F are both friends with O..."

I think on a long enough timeline, everyone is gonna have some kind of issue with enough people that you're gonna feel like the environment is polluted.

This doesn't happen to the extent you appear to think it does.

ETA: I have not had to do a balancing thing like that for at least 10 years. Not once.

Babylon's Fall -- I am basically reduced to gibbering nonsense when I try to talk about how cool that game looks. It's an actiony game, the story looks so, so good.

Also excited about the Final Fantasy origins announcement; watching them take the franchise in yet another direction means that the whole line will benefit from whatever that game does. As a FFXXIV player I'm really excited for what that will do for us (much like the development of 15's party AI was).

And for fun and kicks, here's the shit I got on Facebook from @Echx (who plays Reynard) after Asherat shared the conversation with her when I was taking a break.

Okay, so. I don't know what you know about what happened on Friday, but Ash showed me the page you sent her about an apology to the player base and I feel kind of obligated to correct some perception you have.

There was no 'Chosen Few' thing. That was not a thing that was done by staff alts, or for staff alts. Liana may have done part of the ritual that was done, but she was the ONLY staff character involved. Everybody else? All the PCs, all of the groundwork, all of the setup... that was all PC stuff. The individuals who got picked to participate got picked BY A PC, to fill slots, because the ritual needed one scion from each Companion.

If people want to be pissed that they didn't get involved in ONE scene that finally wraps up two+ game years of a massive issue, that's ultimately on the people who want to be pissed that they didn't get involved. Not everybody gets to be included in every scene. Not everybody gets to go to every party, not everybody gets to go on every adventure.

Sure, this is the first major plot resolution thing staff has run in a long ass time. How encouraging is it for them to want to do anything else if the reception they get is people stomping off in a huff because they didn't get picked for this one thing?

We have a red flag warning here, and I have friends being super grumpy about people posting anti-fireworks stuff. Like man, the last 3 years in my state, we have had MASSIVE wildfire issues that were directly, DIRECTLY related to people shooting off fireworks. That's why people are grumpy about it when we are SPECIFICALLY under a 'wildfires ack ack ack' warning.

plz don't burn my state down. plz. the stupid wildfire smoke triggers my heart condition.

Nobody sent any nasty mails. I sent a short, abrupt 'I quit' after you,@Echx, came after me on FB with your bullshit. Two other people, the night of, sent short 'I quit' mails that I know of. Everything else that I am even aware of was polite. Respectful. And I certainly didn't have anything to do with the two of them quitting in the first place.

The fact of the matter is, people tried to get involved LOTS. This should have been handled differently, by staff. Staff's job is to promote RP, encourage it, not run stories for them and their friends and leave everyone else out in the cold. It wasn't apparent to me until I tried to get Avi involved and got told, essentially, that they were happy to involve me but wouldn't involve her, that I really started to see the problem instead of it being a series of isolated incidents that I really had thought were just...isolated incidents.

And then during the big 'important' scene where nothing was supposed to happen because all the nobodies were there, staff-alts snuck off with their friends and went and resolved the plot. I use 'snuck' really loosely, because they basically rubbed it in eeryone's faces as they left.

@Echx I had already expressed a desire to take a break from the situation. I had expressed that desire TO YOU like two messages back from the BS you sent me. I was angry and needed some time off. Your messages made it very clear to me that there was no fucking hope of anything changing, because Asherat was more interested in getting reassurances from THE FUCKING STAR OF EVERYTHING than she was in actually acknowledging that there was a problem.

You've known me for 15 years, yeah? You should know better than to fucking come at me when I have said 'I DO NOT WANT TO DISCUSS THIS'.

I understand what you mean, but we live in a day where many of us are 40 with kids and limited time. Yep, STs waste time, it's part of being an ST. At the end of the day, ALL time in this hobby is wasted time, right? Give the hook to a player who is interested in picking up what you're putting down -- you can say 'oh, the first scene was a waste' or you can say 'yay, I get to do ANOTHER fun bit of STing with a different player who wants to be here!' I mean, perspective.

Yep, I was. Friendly with them up until a few weeks ago, when I realized that being friendly with them was the only reason I was getting involved in anything at all, and that others weren't welcome because they weren't.
