As far as I know, it's still used for self-identification by the MRA jackasses, whether you like the term or not.

You'll note that while I engage about him, I try not to directly engage, because mostly what he has to say is so fucking infuriating if I lend it even a little credence, I start hissing and spitting and being generally incoherent because HOW can someone in this hobby be THAT bad.

It's easy to be dismissive of people who are reacting to being attacked and silenced by being dismissive themselves, but I sure as fuck don't have time to bother with @Tyche and his extremity, or that of those like him. It's pointless. He's a condescending, sexist asshole who is personally responsible for doing some of the behaviors that women are talking about in this thread. He isn't here to discuss or learn.

Yeah, that is a big reason I don't get on voice chat on MMOs anymore and always claim to be male unless I am playing with people I know from elsewhere. Always. It fucks everything up if you admit to being female. Suddenly you're judged on entirely different standards and to keep your tank/healer/whatever status, you have to be better - not as good as, but better - than your male counterparts. I don't have the energy to fight this anymore. I used to, and I did, but I got tired.

That whole 'well they aren't REAL game developers' attitude is precisely why.

How the hell do I prove that I got cornered in a bathroom at a convention by a guy twice my size?

How the hell do I prove that I was at a LARP game and some guy was all over me, and then when I objected, he hid behind 'it was in character' and all that was done was 'hey, you know, no touching' -- so he promptly found a different target that wasn't going to speak up?

Proof is being asked for things that THERE IS NO PROOF OF besides my word, besides the fact that a bunch of other women have had nearly identical issues and have stated the same things.

You're part of the problem when you start demanding proof because you're saying 'I don't believe you without evidence that doesn't and can't exist'.

Even when allowing alts in the various places (because both games I know of that were killed or nearly killed by a split of the playerbase in the last few years allowed alts in the different spots), splitting the playerbase is a bad idea.

Yeaaaaaaah, splitting your playerbase, particularly for a niche game, is a really really bad idea.

My new job is amazing. I've stepped into an entirely different culture, and in every way it's the best work environment I've ever been in. This job is pretty much unreal; I have a hard time believing it. I'm being paid what I'm worth for the first time, my benefits are fully paid for (and they're ridiculously good, too! 200 deductible? 2k out of pocket max? what?!), and the sick/leave time is super generous. There is daily a spread of food that people bring in from home, everything put in the particular area is open season. Just because. I have eaten so much fry bread the last week, even if it IS bad for me. There is going to be little to no stress -- this last week my new boss has apologized to me multiple times for how stressful/hectic it has been, it's not usually like this -- and it's fucking NOTHING. Like, I didn't even feel any pressure, let alone actual stress.

And to top it all off, I'm doing something I love. Not only do I get to devote a large portion of my time to training, I get to choose what I teach, make my own material and lesson plans, and so on. When I'm not doing that, I'm getting to play with setting up computers and troubleshooting and stuff. Like. What. This doesn't qualify as work. It's nuts.

So. 3 day weekend, starting today. Yesterday, get an email at about noon from the big boss. Go home, have a good weekend.

Paid.

This one really jumped out at me. If you don't let the players do it, then you're going to have to do it all (something I've run into with my own game, and the scope of the houses I need is very limited in comparison to this). Especially given the 'they will inevitably' -- that's not actually true, and also solvable with an approval system for the houses, too.

Yeah, when I was trying to use my phone earlier I was having the same problem.

Having seen the error (and having read it) it just looks like it's the screen that we get when there's too much traffic.
