As of 02/01/2015, the MINI-MUSH will be opening for Chaos characters. This means a couple of different things.

Anyone who does not have a character is welcome to work with me (as of this coming Friday) on making a Chaosian with our current point total (75 initial, 50 advancement, plus up to 75 points in contributions + whatever of the above-max contributions you might have).

Anyone who wants to retire an Amberite and pick up a Chaos character instead gets +10 advancement points, carries their contribution points over from their Amberite, and can work with me on making a new character.

Those with Amberites may make a Chaosian alt (or a grandchild of Oberon). These characters' ranks cannot go up to Amber level, they are instead at Chaos level -- I'll be posting point-costs for various Chaosian-ranks, with the notation that Amber level is better than any of their stats. You may have up to 50 initial points, 25 advancement points, and zero contribution points. The only contribution points that can be used for second characters are those that you are NOT using on your primary.

That said, going forward, advancement and contribution points will be tied to the player, rather than the character. Every advancement, you can choose to put those points into your primary PC or any alt you might have in whatever combination that you'd like.

Please please please do this game. I will come back to playing in public if you do, this game would make me so happy. I only ever got a taste of playing Buffy and I loved it, but for various reasons it didn't last. These days it interests me even more, but I dunno where to poke. Please! Yes!

Edited the thread title because I have been soundly corrected by SOMEBODY, we are actually running far more like a mini-mush than we are an OTT, with the amount of roleplay and the like available. We are currently on a 2 week intermission; we will be out of intermission as of 01/23/2015, and I will be accepting Chaos characters at this time with the understanding that direct involvement with the other PCs may end up waiting until 02/01/2014.

@Bennie : Hahaha. Yes. That is exactly the sort of thing I'm suggesting.

This is, for the record, why I have such a difficult time running PRPs that require staff approval before they're run, rather than simple record-keeping afterwards. If I want to ensure that everybody has fun, I absolutely must have the leeway to make shit up as I go. If I am not intimately familiar with the PCs I'll be running for, I have to guess. Guessing is harder than I like STing to be and I am rarely right, so I need to have room to improvise. Period.

Many games do not allow for this wiggle room; sometimes I will get a staffer that says: 'I get how you run things, it's cool, do what you need to do' (@Glitch). That leads to some pretty epic storytelling. I had the same benefit on TR from @EmmahSue during the EOTW thing; I was able to provide general outlines and then just do it. Prior to my withdrawal from playing on traditional games, I was at the point where I just wasn't going to run anything any more.

As an ST/GM that regularly runs things for groups of PCs at variable power levels, it is so much of a pain in the ass to balance a scenario and herd the ferrets so that everybody has something to engage with. So, so much of a pain.

It is entirely possible though, and requires a mixture of planning and being able to completely throw away the plans on a dime if needed to ensure your players' engagement. You just dump more and more on the monster-characters in the front until they're well and truly occupied, and then throw something less of a threat at the lower powered characters. This functions in combat scenes the easiest; it's harder to do in long-term plots, but it is again possible. Give the big cats the big/tough mystery to solve, then once they're off chasing shadows, give the kittens something that matters (and is within their ability) to also deal with.

This requires that your players are generally aware of what you're trying to do, and are being cooperative about it by NOT wrapping up their shit and then turning around and stomping all over the lowbies' shit, too. The vast majority of the time, people are completely and happily willing to go along with me on this, even if they have never played with me running something before. I have only ever run into a problem with it once, with someone who threw a complete tantrum OOC when I made it obvious she was not going to be allowed to solve all the things including what the other PCs were working on. I've been doing this for a while though, and there having been only one major problem (in other words, only one that I'm really remembering -- that one stuck with me)...is rather the exception that proves the rule.

@Chime As far as I know, she's still around and doing quite well, though I'm pretty sure she's not mushing right now. Last time we chatted though, she was good.

We're still looking to recruit a few more players for the Amber OTT; we're just wrapping up the prologue/prelude now, and as of 2/1 I will be accepting Chaosian characters. We're running a 1st generation game; Oberon and Dworkin are (apparently) dead, and relations with Chaos are going to be opening up here shortly. The Amberites have at this point resolved the primary issue they've been dealing with, but that doesn't mean there's not plenty that's yet to happen...
