Seconded. Some 'how to' for setting up templates and stuff like that would be amazing, too. I try to go to the media wiki help file stuff and I am so, so, so slow about learning it.

@Sunny If Sabine's player is still there, give her a shout for me? She knows who 'Tarak' is. Much obliged, if possible. (Granted, I don't know if we parted on okay terms since my memory is terrible. I liked talking to her.)
She has surfaced, and asked me to pass along a hug.

You object to someone knowing you are reading their information?
Knowing? Not really.
Thinking this entitles them to attention -- or anything at all -- beyond that? Vehemently.
(God, I really am apparently sharing a brain with @Rince!)
This, this, this. I don't mind people seeing my info without me knowing, but people being 'clever' (omg someone I really like did this the other day and I wanted to kill her) ruin &afinger for everybody. There's just...not a compelling reason to have it.
How does it help?
What harm does it do? -
RE: Kushiel's Debut
Yeah, I have nothing to say about a couple of years ago, because I don't know, but I can say for sure that it's really not the case now. I'd have already run up against that wall hard if it was there, or one of my group would have. Somebody would have. We've been there long enough and we're a diverse enough group of folks that it would have come up.
It's good to know that it's something to keep an eye out for and all, but at this point I am confident enough to speak with certainty that it's not an issue that if it does exist, is causing any negative repercussions for the game at all. I'd encourage you to give the game another shot if it's something you're interested in. There's plenty of folks about that are more than happy to provide hooks to incoming folks and so on.

RE: MU-Gateway.com
I mostly rely on word of mouth these days, plus here. Some combo of the two. I wasn't even aware OGR/Gateway was still around. What's the address?

RE: Kushiel's Debut
I haven't picked up on any sort of OOC being influenced by that sort of thing. Current plots and other such things say very loudly that this is not actually the case. I've now had a number of people that I know come in to fairly hefty positions without knowing anybody but me there (at least one Duc), and I've never been even vaguely approached by him. If this WAS the case (and perhaps it was), I can say with a fair amount of certainty that it's not the case any more. Skaldia has never approached me for TS, but my character's stuff is chugging along just fine, and I've had people get into positions when they haven't even talked to him, let alone TS'd him.
Pretty sure the character is the creep (if there's creep at all), not the person behind him. I REALLY don't want to get into the plot stuff (spoilers!), but I can say with fair certainty that it rather proves this to be bunk.

RE: Kushiel's Debut
There is LOTS of information available on the wiki for the game; enough for you to fake it till you make it. And from experience, Skaldia is VERY patient with answering a newbie's questions; I bothered him throughout my entire creation process and he was always always patient and kind. I imagine it's very helpful if you've read the books (I grabbed the first three, reading them now), but it's not vital.
http://www.kushielsdebut.org/index.php/New_Player_Quick_Guide
That's incredibly helpful, and fairly well outlines much of the difference between what you would expect from a L&L game and a Kushiel game. The only negative thing I can say at all about the place is that the wiki is kind of a mess and finding things can sometimes be a pain, but even with that everybody on game is generally happy to help find where things are on said wiki.

RE: Storytelling
I wing most of what I do, almost always. I create a scenario -- something to present to the PCs -- and then let them run with it. I keep copious amounts of notes in terms of what I tell people so that I don't contradict myself, and then release them on it.
I never really script it out -- this leads to this leads to this -- because that way lies the choochooing. I will create...building blocks is a good way to put it. X, Y, and Z are true. A, B, and C will happen if 1, 2, or 3 happens. If not interfered with, the goal of these NPCs is R, and I get a general idea of how they're going to pursue their goals. Sometimes this means the PCs snuff things out almost immediately, and sometimes this means the bad guy has time to build the army on the borders and invade their hometown and oh boy the whole game just changed.
Mostly, you have to be flexible, and you have to adapt to what signals your players are giving you. If they ALL start looking in closets, because they are all interested in seeing what's in the closets...well, now your plot had best start involving closets, because they've told you loud and clear that's what they want. If they keep going out and picking fights, they want a fitey game. The goal is fun, for you and for them, so you drill in on what they seem to be interested in.
Don't plan what they're going to do. Don't ever, ever, ever plan what they're going to do, or hinge plots on the PCs doing something in specific unless you're prepared to outright tell them somehow what that specific thing is. In my recent case example in my OTT game, the PCs had two strict conditions that HAD to be met for anything at all to make sense. They had some difficulty figuring it out, so eventually one of the NPCs outright told them: this is what we're waiting for. I try really really hard to avoid hanging progression on folks doing/not doing something specific, just doing something. If it'll work, let it work. If it doesn't, it doesn't.
If the players blow up your entire plot through a clever use of a power or something...let them. Get a new plot.

RE: Good Things
My family is going to be able to keep me from becoming homeless until I can go back to work. Yay. Here, have a poem. This poem qualifies as a good thing:
The Thing Is, by Ellen Bass
to love life, to love it even
when you have no stomach for it
and everything you've held dear
crumbles like burnt paper in your hands,
your throat filled with the silt of it.
When grief sits with you, its tropical heat
thickening the air, heavy as water
more fit for gills than lungs;
when grief weights you like your own flesh
only more of it, an obesity of grief,
you think, How can a body withstand this?
Then you hold life like a face
between your palms, a plain face,
no charming smile, no violet eyes,
and you say, yes, I will take you
I will love you, again. -
Kushiel's Debut
Kushiel's Debut is a game set in the world of the Kushiel's Legacy novels by Jacqueline Carey, and using a modified version of the New World of Darkness rules for conflict resolution. We have done a good deal of work to make the game world as close to what is in the novels as possible, but because our timeline is set well after that depicted in the books, the stories that we are telling are only loosely related to those from the series. Thus, there is plenty of room for new characters and plotlines.
Those familiar with the novels will be aware that the setting contains strong themes of politics, intrigue, and romance in a low-magic setting, but we don't require people to have read the books. If you are interested in these themes, our staff and players will help you get adjusted to the details of the world, which is roughly equivalent to a late Medieval/early Renaissance version of Europe, France in particular. More specifically, play focuses on the capital city of Terre d'Ange, a country where the inhabitants are descended from angels. In Elua, named for the divine figure these angels fell from the heavens to follow, the noble families of the realm gather to plot against one another behind a veil of courtly etiquette, lavish parties, and artistic accomplishment.

Ducal Positions Mar 30 2015 SkaldiaWe currently have a number of ducal openings, the highest ranking of noble available for play in the game. In particular, there is one opening for a sovereign duc or duchesse, that of the Chalasse duchy in l'Agnace. Though we prefer long-time players for sovereign positions since there are expectations that staff has for players who take them, time spent in the game is not the only factor in making such decisions. For a 'normal' duc or duchesse, there are no such requirements, the only limitation being that you can have only one ducal character among your alts. There is also a need for the heads of some other important families as well. So if you would like to get into the political game at the higher end of things, feel free to app one of these characters.

I'm really a huge fan of this place for a variety of reasons, and getting some new people in would be great. It's been a LOT of fun, and this is a great opportunity to do so. I play Emma there, and I'm happy to help people get things figured out, answer questions, and get involved.

RE: Reflections of Amber (Amber MINI-MUSH)
Reflections is going on hiatus for the time being, what with the health issues and the level of brain intensity required for running it. I'll be picking it up down the road right from where we are (or advanced just enough to get people on the same page), but big pause button.
In its place, I will be running an online tabletop D&D game. I play a heavily narrative D&D, light on the crunch but not devoid of it. We'll be playing within the Forgotten Realms, somewhere between 2nd Ed and 3.5 with a good dose of my headcanon thrown in for good measure. Rules-wise, we'll be using Pathfinder, adjusted as needed for FR specifics. The Readme above mostly still applies, though I'm not quite as cruel to D&D characters as I am to Amber characters.

RE: Blades in the Dark?
It very much to me sounds like the exact opposite of working well for a mush. It sounds like a great deal of FUN, and I'd love to run it or play in it with my tabletop group. But a game needs to be designed around something that can be expanded beyond a small party of people.

RE: Tracking Alts
Developing game speaking up here.
I'm planning on including a player-reward system that the bonuses of which can be used across characters, encouraging people to register their alts. We're also going alts-are-public, with the caveat that people can opt-out of being public but the requirements for opting out are very stringent. We won't catch the people determined to lie, it's not possible. Just have to give a good enough carrot and most people will play nice, I think.

RE: Amazon & Amazon Smile (and Homeless Backpacks)
http://www.homelessbackpacks.org/
I have been personally involved with this group off and on for a couple of years now, and they do everything they say they do. They're just now getting the attention of some of the monster charities and are probably going to expand the program, but the basis of it is feeding local children directly, without any of the hassles that the children would have if they were trying to get other types of adult help. Right now they're serving a few counties. There's a lot of on the ground direct work.

Amazon & Amazon Smile (and Homeless Backpacks)
I am pretty sure everyone around here probably shops on Amazon once in a while at least. They have this thing, Amazon smile, that makes a donation to the charity of your choice whenever you purchase eligible items. Log in to smile.amazon.com instead of amazon.com, and you can choose what charity. If you don't have one, please search for Homeless Backpacks in Lacey, WA or Olympia, WA -- I don't remember which it's listed as. I can provide more info on the charity if needed, but they're a great group. They feed local homeless high schoolers, the group most likely to be in circumstances where they're unwilling (or unable) to deal with the safety net of public services (a lot of them have simply left foster care or the like).
This doesn't impact your purchase prices or anything, it's just Amazon letting its customers choose where the company's charitable donations go.
