I know I'm going to cringe and facepalm when I get the answer to this I'm sure, but what does the C stand for? It's not an acronym I'm familiar with.

Yeah, I live in the Pacific Northwest, land of the rain. People here can't drive in the rain. They can't drive in the sunshine, either. Or at night. Or....yeah. The only time they can drive is when it's light and overcast.
Grrr. This is what makes me so mad about failing my drive test. I'm waaaaay more of a cautious and safe driver than the majority of other people I encounter on the roads (and I obey little laws like: if there is a pedestrian in the cross walk I don't try to be in the crosswalk at the same time).
Oh, but I didn't jerk my neck around like a chicken to check for pedestrians when inching out onto another road. And went 40 FOR ABOUT THIRTY SECONDS in a 35. SO NO LICENSE FOR ME.
grumble
Traffic rules are more...guidelines, here. And I know at least two hicks (is that word offensive? I have a hard time keeping track) that genuinely believe that the only time pedestrians have the right of way is when people are stopped for a light and the little man is in the crosswalk sign. Like....sigh. /Sigh./

RE: RL peeves! >< @$!#
I guess what I was looking for wasn't 'not legal' but 'is in violation of agency policy', which is different but still has a similar end result.

RE: RL peeves! >< @$!#
Yes, but even reading that article still supports my point. I was misinformed about it being illegal though, clearly. Wrong was I!
Even so, though the headline itself says it's legal, the article actually goes more into depth on the topic and contradicts itself. But! Not illegal. This is good.

Your equilibrium will be reached when certain players get fed up with their +requests being neglected. I'm not sure if that's a good policy to stick to.
My point exactly!
No. This sounds nice, but it doesn't actually happen or work this way in practice. Long-term players might leave with frustration, even while 3 new people are stepping up to the plate. Not having a limit and then letting requests go...does not make people leave, it just makes them unhappy and causes them to bitch. A lot. Impacting a great deal of your game and the morale. The cascade of 'just let the jobs go hee hee' consequences is pretty significant.

RE: Building: A Basic Tutorial
So helpful. Thank you, Cobalt! I'm getting ready to have to deal with a whole grid, and there is definitely a trick or two here that should prove useful. Figuring out what rooms are parented to a parent is...very very helpful, and I actually didn't know that one because I fail. Thanks!

@Spitfire
Also keep in mind that 'the belt' and other such punishments, these days, could have someone calling the police / child protective services. Will someone for sure? No. If they do, is the parent in question generally nailed? Oh yes. Corporal punishment is not legal, even for your own children.
Mind, I still spank. Or did, when my child was age appropriate. I also know someone that put her teenage son down on the floor when he stepped up the first (and last) time like he was going to kick her ass. I think some kids -- particularly some boys -- need it, particularly when the hormones are going crazy but you can still get the foundations into their head that YOU DO NOT WANT TO DO THIS BECAUSE CONSEQUENCES. Stepping up to kick your mother's ass is probably never a good idea, even once you're taller than she is.
These days we parent in privileges (and revoking them), but if I had a little one I would swat. That doesn't make it legal, and it doesn't mean I wouldn't get in serious legal trouble (as well as losing custody) were somebody to decide to go after me. It's the reality of parenting in this day and age.

RE: MUSH Mapping
These days I just do the same thing as for CoFaB, though different vehicles; a tree of rooms organized in some fashion to split them up and help people find what area they're looking for. Much easier than a grid, and everybody's happier in the long run.
Also, I have no interest in trying to actually map out Victoriana London on a game. Because. Really. Nightmare fuel. For me, for players, for everyone. The thought horrifies me.

The most horrifying thing I have seen on a MU* was Sithen/Silverblue. It was just this headtilt, and vague kind of smile posed so well that you could almost hear his sanity snap. Nothing gory or overtly horrible just...yeah. Very well done.
I have to second this. Completely agreed.

There are fewer places, people, and structure to hide behind; to suggest that the God-Machine could orchestrate this elaborate collapse of society, force populations into small pockets, and then for whatever bumbling reason couldn't tighten the noose just sounds hand-wavey to me.
I'm not sure I'm following your train of thought. You seem to go off the rails at this point. At what point did I say that there wasn't a constant threat? I believe my last post suggested otherwise.
That's the point; he's saying that the threat is too big, there's no logical reason that the demons would survive. It's a threat in the books amongst zillions of people for them to hide in. It doesn't just turn off the smoke screen, it dresses them in neon colors, hangs lights all over them, and stands them up in the darkness for everyone to find.

RE: RL peeves! >< @$!#
Okay, cool. Some people I've worked with aren't aware, so I like to fuss about that point. I know for the hiring panels I've been on at work, 'homemaker' has never been a black mark for a candidate as long as it was noted, because the time has been accounted for. Last round we actually hired someone that had been a stay-at-home mom for 10 years over somebody who was currently at another agency doing a similar job, because she was very capable of relating how her experiences applied to the job, and was able to state clearly why it wasn't going to be a problem for her returning to the workforce.
ETA: I should note that I work in leadership of the division within my state agency that has the most entry level positions, the foot-in-the-door for the agency.

See, I hate being able to ONLY fill out the base information asked for in applications. Up until VERY recently, I hadn't worked in about 7 years. That's a looooooooong time to be out of the workforce. But, I had kids to raise, and those kids have issues that made it more beneficial to them if I was home. After school care wasn't an option for one of my kids, he'd been kicked out of three. But that's not something that you get to put on an application. So any chance I get to give a little more explanation into the situation is great for me.
It's generally actually better to make note on resume / applications of the time you weren't working, what you were doing. Listing 'homemaker' for that time period, and if you did any volunteer work during that time period (even like PTA or whatnot) list that, too. If you didn't, do some! It is generally always better to explain long periods of not working, and homemaker is generally something people understand.
