    • RE: MU Things I Love

People being exceptionally kind and helpful when I'm trying to get settled back in towards playing again after way too long away. I was anticipating a nightmare (and was already feeling a wee bit overwhelmed) and ended up with only a minor headache. Sometimes I forget how great the people I hang out with are.

ETA: Seriously, you guys are ducking awesome.

      @Warma-Sheen

Yeah, for sure. But making something a priority (everyone's enjoyment) over continuity does not mean I don't/can't recognize someone taking advantage of that, and it doesn't mean that I don't take my own fun into consideration as part of that. If someone is unreasonable at me, I don't prioritize them. It's a general philosophy/pov, not a mandate from heaven. I sure as hell am not going to bother with A through Q, I'm probably going to stop at C, maybe D if I'm feeling really generous.

It just means that I think that 'enjoyment' has more weight than 'continuity' or even 'consistency'. All are still important to me, and there's a scale.

I used to think that the IC world and consistency trumped OOC considerations, that actions should always have APPROPRIATE consequences (emphasis oldme's), that things need to not be realistic (because lol magic), but SENSIBLE. Sensible was absolutely a requirement in every way.

I've totally given that up in favor of #1 priority being 'everyone enjoying themselves' -- it doesn't always work, and sometimes there are conflicting goals and things, but I think it's a better approach to the hobby than IC being sacrosanct like I used to feel.

It really is OK to have your bloodthirsty monster of a character NOT be a bloodthirsty monster if the other person isn't going to enjoy that. That's a change in the last 5 years or so for me.

    • RE: Sunny?

I am not dead. As noted, health issues have contributed to life issues, and I am a mixture of unfit for human company and pity party atm. Best for everyone (but especially me) if I do not engage with stuff. I am having a rough time (and let me tell you, saying that in public is hard) but this too shall pass.

I am having heart problems, but they are not of a sort that are likely to be fatal as long as I do what I should when I should. Stress contributes, and the mental health issues surrounding being this sick turns weird things into stress. Thank you for thinking of me. Sorry if this was TMI, I am unable to figure the right line out right now.

    • RE: What Types of Games Would People Like To See?

I know it keeps being mentioned as a problem with the type of game, but I would dearly love an apocalypse game where the point IS to solve it and build safe and get back to life as normal (with monsters outside oooooh).

There has not been a day this week that I have not been to the doctor, lab, or radiology. Yes, including today, and both days last weekend, too. I have somehow managed to beg enough to not go go the hospital (observation, it never helps, they never observe what they hope to).

      I fucking hate this.

I would want to know that the idea was desired and get an idea as to who would pledge to try it out. I'd base the level of interest against the amount of time and effort put into making the game to determine whether or not the effort is worth it.

Very sensible approach if the numbers-metric is your primary (which it is, for a lot of folks). Would you do it more as an 'X or Y' question (two things you are interested in, see which sticks more) or 'Would you commit to X for one month?'

@Arkandel said in What Types of Games Would People Like To See?:

@Ghost Like there is a ton of potential game-runners/coders able and willing to take input from the masses about where they should invest their time? 😛

      I kid - mostly.

      Lol right.

Mushing is 98% players to 2% coders, so the reason I proposed that idea is that making a mush takes time and effort. Maybe securing commitments to at least trying it out for 30 days will help a game launch.

Is this approach something that would help you make a game?

I feel so sorry for his parents, but I am in total awe of the kid.

    • RE: Health and Wealth and GrownUp Stuff

It has been really hard to limit my online commitments to a reasonable level and how much I'm doing in general, especially as I started to finally, finally feel better. I started to bite off a little more, but stayed careful. It's good, because I basically just relapsed. ugh.

On the bright side, I now have a cardiologist who is willing to say "I don't know, but I'll find out" instead of blowing smoke up my ass. It's actually comforting. I know that none of them know, thanks, I wish that previous doctors weren't so scared of looking foolish that they couldn't admit it enough to help me.

      I work in IT.

This conversation is far too exhausting to have here, given these posts. Someday I won't tell someone I work in this industry and have them go "Well if you REALLY were in IT..."

      Lol

I know you said you didn't want the attention so maybe I'm bad for this, but I am really really really glad you got through the cancer. My work wife is finishing up her chemo right now and it's brutal, and I know I'm not even seeing the worst of it. Glad you had the wake up call and didn't give up.

    • Scene Set Ideas

      Brainstorming Exercise:

Short scene sets that people can use as a jumping off place that aren't 'walks in' or 'sits on the couch when X walks in' or 'is at the bar hanging out'.

Action ideas! Any genre, any setting, public or private, whatever ideas you have. Games have different rules on plots and NPCs and things too, so go ahead and assume you have staff permission to do whatever:

      • Neighbor's dog is loose, the neighbor's gone, and one character is midst trying to dog-catch when the other character arrives
      • Everyone's been in the coffee shop for an hour already when the guy walks in to rob the place
      • Character is in the middle of an angry business meeting, and the person they're arguing with happens to start storming out when the other character arrives (catching the tail end of the fight, of course!)
      • And our tried and true favorite, of course: literally drop a pencil and have it roll under someone else's chair

Here's a tumblr link like I mentioned. The URLs are long and the text is tiny but a resource is a resource.
