    • RE: Books...Books...Books....

      https://michellesagara.com/state-of-the-author-july-2021-edition-ending-an-era/

Michelle West has ended her relationship with her publisher for the West books (the books she writes under Sagara are fine where they are), mostly because they're too long (sigh). She has one more series to write, the conclusion of the arcs of all of these people.

She's going to patreon instead. There won't be physical books most likely, but if she gains enough support (she will, she's blowing up), she'll be able to keep her standard writing/publishing schedule, and we'll all get copies of the ebook when she's done. More directly employed by her fans, basically.

I encourage you to check out her books if you haven't, and if you have and you loved them, this is going to be the best part yet. IT'S THE CONCLUSION.

    • RE: How do *you* make social scenes fun and enjoyable?

Ask other characters about things that their characters are clearly into. Their history. Their job. Whatever. If I as player pick up on the character having a gimmick, I lean into that.

TRY to every pose a- react to something directly in their pose, by reference, and b- give them something to react to, or a not-subtle place for the conversation to go, or a lead of some sort.

Drop the pencil. If I have to make my character look stupid to get interaction going, fine.

These are what I find to be the building blocks for a successful social scene. The rest of it is pretty much limitlessly negotiable.

      You forgot the gore warning.

Invincible NEEDS a gore warning. Love the show like woah, but it is one of the goriest things on TV right now.

Can confirm. It has been exactly like that in my experience, too.

What are the best MU* clients lately? I still use tinyfugue, because I have a strong preference for command lines over GUIs, but I think a thread where we talk about these clients is worthwhile.

I STRONGLY encourage you to try BeipMU. It has all the versatility of any other MU client and is actively developed with a helpful Discord community/server where you can go for any questions and help with triggers and scripts.

Seconding this. It is a VERY well done client.

      @silverfox

We have a red flag warning here, and I have friends being super grumpy about people posting anti-fireworks stuff. Like man, the last 3 years in my state, we have had MASSIVE wildfire issues that were directly, DIRECTLY related to people shooting off fireworks. That's why people are grumpy about it when we are SPECIFICALLY under a 'wildfires ack ack ack' warning.

plz don't burn my state down. plz. the stupid wildfire smoke triggers my heart condition.

ohwell. at least I have a mask I can wear when it all lights up. ^^ Will my kn95 keep out smoke particles? Time to find out.

Tell me if I'm getting too personal and I'll apologize, but I'm curious. Which of these five things are the problem(s)?

I didn't get the sense that any of them were a PROBLEM so much as that's not what he's looking for, particularly in conjunction. When you're looking for a dating option and nearly everything you see is of a particular sort that you're not interested in, it's super frustrating.

Does it address the whole 'domestic violence victim, what to do' thing? Not asking to be argumentative or a jerk or anything, I just get triggered by this sort of thing when it doesn't take that into consideration, so I'd like to watch it, but I also don't want to be left feeling like the worst person ever for calling the cops when my ex husband kicked my ass.

eta: I guess what I'm asking is, does he have a suggestion in there for "violence is currently in progress at me, what to do?", or not?

One of the square cases of 24 cans, yeah.

I thought it was ok and just bruised until a few minutes ago when I flexed a tiny bit wrong and the metal/bone very loudly notified me that there was a problem. So now I'm all compression bandaged up with a medical boot on standby (sob), doing the heat/ice thing. It's completely pointless (or at least needlessly expensive) for me to get it looked at due to my foot being held together in the first place by bailing twine, chewed gum, and corpse bone. ^^

This sounds fantastic. You sound incredibly enthused. I'm particularly impressed by the particular balance struck between providing a framework/structure for people to play within, and a great deal of creative freedom. Just, a lot of good stuff here. Are you looking for players, or looking for help, or some mixture thereof?

Its sounds more like you see it as a game then a group of people sharing a common interest.

Which, I'll clarify, is FINE. It's just not the way that the bulk of people you engage with comport themselves, and the understanding of that fact is VITAL. You can co-exist in these spaces without engaging with the OOC community, but there are downsides to doing that, and those downsides are not critical flaws -- they're downsides of playing the games not as intended.

Just know it can turn people away

Not letting people idle on a game would turn just as many (if not more) people away, and only one of the extremes can be dealt with by somebody no longer worrying what OTHER people are doing with their time.

Babylon's Fall -- I am basically reduced to gibbering nonsense when I try to talk about how cool that game looks. It's an actiony game, the story looks so, so good.

Also excited about the Final Fantasy origins announcement; watching them take the franchise in yet another direction means that the whole line will benefit from whatever that game does. As a FFXXIV player I'm really excited for what that will do for us (much like the development of 15's party AI was).
