@tinuviel I'm wrong a lot, but as somebody who has been suicidal for over a year, that show helped chill me out quite a fucking lot on that front, as that result is anything but terrible so far as I'm concerned, and I'm sure as shit not wrong to feel that way. So, bluntly, fuck you. 🙂 Your snark routine is uncute and grossly misplaced in this case.

I can't fault anyone for having a visceral NOPE reaction to any of the spheres.

All of them have generic hot buttons, which in some cases is enough.

Each also draws certain negative player types because of some of the themes involved, and the result is equivalent to a chemical reaction that is unique to that sphere and what those players can specifically do in that sphere in intolerable ways.

(Example: The 'must do all the things' player, annoying as fuck normally. Completely intolerable in mage.)

Nobody should get browbeaten into adding spheres they don't want to, full stop, whatever their reasons. It almost never leads to good things and it's not cool even if it was the best idea since sliced bread.

Don't even make with the dares about sequin tights, because I don't care how fat I am, I still have sparkly mermaid-scale leggings because I refuse to be an adult all the time. And some things you just can't unsee, people. Some things you just can't unsee.

@lotherio I think 'college age' is a good target zone for this. Higher end is in early/mid20s, lower end is very late teens. It's the 'still formally learning, but learning to adult and be on one's own' at the same time.

My brain went to a 'The Magicians' place a little conceptually, also re: visualizing age range, and that seemed like a good combination, for whatever it's worth. If that's the general vibe you're aiming for, just with a different setting/adversaries/etc., I think you picked the right target range.

@derp Some day. I have a current tinkerbox and a thing I'm helping a friend with, but... it's tempting. So tempting.

I even have a local-ish 'classic TV show small college town' that actually has random street faires and seems to be composed entirely out of little brownstone shops and sidewalk cafes to abuse with a camera in mind for it, if I ever do it. It looks like 'The Vampire Diaries, Northern Edition', no lie.

CB: LOLcat? I think yes. "I can get us there quick! Let me get my invisible bike!"

@wizz Thank you for giving me a fine reason to never dedicate my body to science.

The bits and pieces still worth a damn to whoever needs them, sure.

      Otherwise, yes, absolutely this moment.

    • RE: Dust to Dust (Formerly the nWoD grenade thread)

I'm willing to contribute. I tend to be fairly decent at brainstorming, plot arc conception, building, and can jobmonkey like a champ. Build/jobmonkey are likely where I'm most overtly useful.

I have enough of the higher level sphere/player management stuff on my plate already for the time being, but am fairly available enough to keep minor things like spends/etc. from creating +job clutter. I'm pretty good with grid organization and find building for grids and dig-and-hand-off-for-descing for player builds almost painfully easy (provided there's no truly weird code tucked in there that someone decides they just need, need, need to have).

I was planning to help out @tragedyjones with his multi-sphere concept in whatever position I'd be useful in, but since I'm not sure where that's going at the moment, there's a wedge of time set aside already dedicated to that generalized end.

@royal You are killin' me here. The husband just bought Demolition Man on blu-ray and is hiding it from me until Xmas. 😐 Damn thing is eerily prescient; something new every dang time. Last watch, it was the appearance of a 'Scott Peterson' in the list of cryo-criminals right in the midst of that case while it was on the news...

@insomnia OMG. Now I'm super weirded out, because clearly I dodged a bullet. I went to UofDE around then for a year. (Mentioned toward the end.)

Like, how in the actual fuck can I feel like 'whew, I may have had Spider, but at least it wasn't that'?

No reply. Finally staff comes back and says that won't be possible. the people in the plot don't want any more people in it.

      <rubs face>

A Team: "We just want our little clique to have this fun!"
      Staff: "OK!"

^ Clearly, these people have been taking the Spider-Certified Game Management Certificate Course and acing that shit.

@pandora That 'my eye is opening at an angle because my mascara has hermetically sealed half of my eyelid shut with what suddenly seems to have turned into tar, waterproof my sweet ass' feeling is the worst. It seriously is.

FWIW, those neutrogena makeup removing wipes are really fucking good for those moments. I swear by those things, and they don't leave that 'my skin is now so dry, if I dare smile or blink, my flesh will crack' feeling whilst getting even the worst goth hell mascara off in two sweeps. They are ❤

@thatguythere Yeah, I realize this, but I think the idea of standardizing WoD to the hobby this way is pretty horrible. It's just not a good fit.

Learning a complex setting is no less work as it is, and unlearning all the things that require HRs and so on is actually more work than anything else. (Learning something simple and new is way easier than unlearning things you've known forever, or learning all of the endless adaptations required -- which tend to amount to more than 'a new system' in the end.)

@thatonedude ^ This. This trick gets used in too many jobs where people are smart enough to see right through it and know somebody's head-gaming them. Once you recognize someone's head-gaming you, it's hard to see it as anything but an insult to your intelligence.

@thatguythere The really depressing thing? Most of the people playing it still don't know it. I mean, how many times is everything slowed up because somebody has to look something up...

I think it's more a case of 'people know how to CG it (potentially with help) than 'people actually know it'.

Update: the old machine still runs! Yay! So for $64, I can have another machine up and running. (It's a machine that costs between $230-$400, too, so... not a bad deal there!)

Willing to help with wiki things, if no one has jumped up to tend that task. Probably better suited to that than anything else, really. Entirely forgot that one.

There are some organizational tricks that are enormously helpful in maintaining consistency, but are an unholy nightmare to set up unless you do them from the start. (As I am finding out on Reno, whee.)
