    • RE: Requiem for Kingsmouth closing

I don't think there is anywhere that is single sphere, I'm afraid. In fact, the only places that use GMC and Blood&Smoke, are Reno and Eldritch, I believe.

Reno is Vamp+Woof and has a /very/ different game style than what I imagine RfK people are used to. It is pretty non-competitve and sandboxy.

Eldritch is Vamp+Woof+Demon, and also has a sphere cap, so you can't go there and play a vampire even if you wanted.

Are there literally any other good vampire games

If by 'good' you mean has political shit, titles, feeding code, territory systems, and PvP...(The only things I can think of that RfK has and the other current GMC vamp games don't.)

No, because it's been proven time and again that stuff inevitably blows up.

Interesting. If this is legit, I wonder what led to it?

RfK had 50+ active, unique log-ins a night like 2 months ago.

      Drama over Prince, or what?

Edit : Huh. Legit, I guess. Wiki announcement.

    • RE: Shadow War - WoD Mage-Only (Revised)

I know absolutely zero about oWoD Mage. I barely have a grasp on nWoD mage (I've CGd into a few times, never played much), but I am looking forward to the GMC-ified mage rules, and since this will be one of the places using them I'll probably wind up poking around eventually. Any questions I might have had have come up already...So, good luck!

P.S. I did have to admit to finding it a little bit laugh worthy how there's been absolutely no balking at the idea of mages tearing a city out of the ground and floating it into space and maintaining everything needed to sustain it there, while also keeping the entire populations brainwashed. Very poignant glimpse into why so many people complain about the powerlevel of mage. 😛

    • RE: Stuff Done Right

I tend to dislike coded feeding systems, or even having to roll to feed, personally. It's a nice idea, but it tends to ignore outside factors which are pretty huge, and force 'A, B, or C feeding situations' on people.

My current most-played vamp is a Mekhet in GMC/B&S. If I want to "mug" feed, why am I even rolling? All I have to do is obfuscate, walk up to somebody on the street, obfuscate them and feed. If I need to feed more still, do it again. Strength + Brawl (or Streetwise/whatever) doesn't really reflect that accurately, imo. Even Strength + Brawl + Obfu doesn't seem to.

Or if I want to 'seduction' feed, my character has a whopping pool of Presence1+Persuason0. Yet, I can use Auspex1 to go 'who here is most likely to give me what I want', and that should direct me straight to somebody who is drunk enough or horny enough to be an easy meal and not care what I'm rolling. Or I can just drag out a Coterie-mate/ghoul and have them majesty/dominate food.

Or I can just grab an animal somewhere, be it manually or via a coterie-mate with animalism. Do I really need to roll survival when I can obfuscate and walk right up to an animal and snatch it?

There are so many ways for vampires to feed that a coded feeding system seems a little silly. A system just to monitor /amount/ of blood might be interesting, though. Yes, the neighborhood with two clubs in it probably has more available blood than the park.

    • RE: ShadowRun 5E ... 2050

I've never played TT shadowrun, but I am curious about a MU in it.

One question I had...I always hear about the weeaboos and trenchcoats and hacking and decks and runs and all that, but. I never hear anything about elves or magic? Is that something that was inexplicably added to the Shadowrun video game, or is it a thing that exists in the setting for players?

On a different topic. What are your plans for Bloodlines? Updating them custom (or borrowing from somewhere that has done some), or skipping them entirely like Eldritch? (I don't think this has come up in the thread before, but if it has, feel free to call me horrible names.)

Ranks/Positions/Titles/etc need to have play requirements that are enforced.

Sure, if you just wanna play your character, nobody else is entitled to your time. But as soon as you decide you want to be Sheriff/Family Head (assuming it's a staff-made family)/etc, you should be expected to be going out of your way to play outside your circle of friends.

I have noticed myself the mushes are less clique-y then in the past.
None of the places I have tried in the last couple of years have been that hard to find rp in, finding a group I really clicked well with might be a different story but most places I have seen people have been pretty open to new comers.
The last place I felt I had trouble finding Rp because I was new was Haunted Memories.

I think this is in part because most games are infinitely less "competitive" than they used to be. So there's less "fear". Barring the outliers like RfK. Most are pretty sandboxy/non-competitive at all, and the antaganists are usually specifically outside the sphere rather than other players/factions.

I was kind of intrigued, until..yeah. Even ignoring Twilight, for some reason...FCs in this setting really turn me off. Whereas I love them in comic & anime games. I have surprisingly little interest to play with Sam & Dean despite loving the show, or Piper/Paige/Phoebe even though I've watched all of Charmed 3+ times probably.

"Cliques" are not inherently bad IMO, and I think you're going to have a hard time finding such a game, because they are a natural thing in human social interactions.

People play with people they like. I know I have fun playing with Jane and Joe, so I'm going to spend a fair chunk of my play time (and that can be read without the word 'play', I'm spending a chunk of my time with them, because I know I enjoy it) playing with them. Playing outside of your circle of people you know you mesh with is a risk of wasting a valuable, limited resource. Your time.

Most places tend to have at least a small population who are always willing to play outside that circle, especially with new people, though.

One easy way I've found to help deal with this, is to app into the most active faction on a game. It doesn't always work, because yeah, sometimes the faction is overrun by cliques. But, giving people more of a reason to include you tends to help.

Sorry, I should have said only 'auto-XP'.

I personally don't like having to worry about "collecting beats". And I do not do it. I am pretty active on Reno (or so I like to think), and I think I've claimed like 2 beats in the past 4 months. And it's not like it'd be /hard/. If you actually cared, you could milk the aspiration system to death. The short-term examples are literally things like "get laid, get drunk, buy a coffee, get out of bed, meet a new person, go to work". You could throw in a long-term aspiration like 'gain status in the city' and then claim every interaction with any Kindred or mortal in town is slowly helping you do that. It's just a very meh time-waster for both players and staff to constantly be doing things like that.

Hell, half of those you could reasonably claim your character is doing off-screen, and should get beats for. Would anybody who currently staffs anywhere allow that?

Seems much easier for everybody to just award auto-xp to each character. Or implement an alt-cap.

You ate the sacred cow, didn't you? 🐮

The idea of "Player XP" being the only XP seems to just be punishing people for having multiple characters on your game. It's like a weird alt-cap-but-not-really. You can play a vampire and a mortal, but your mortal is doomed to never rise above CG level abilities unless you are willing to let your vampire get less XP than other vampires.

It kind of reminds me of the common rule on superhero games where you can play 2 Superpowered people and then 1 Lois Lane type character. And it really only flies there because the 'normal' people have incredibly deep hooks with the setting/various characters.

The idea of player XP is great for like how Eldritch is using it, IE as rewards for stuff like Storytelling.

You may be confusing debating with complaining. Just because a thing can be improved it doesn't mean we hate it. Conversely, it is possible to like a system and try to make it better.

It's also not personal. We don't only discuss ideas which benefit 'us' here (in fact I don't know that's applicable, since debatably a character's best interests don't align with their player's).

Debating it seems to imply that you think auto-xp to all characters is bad and forcing people to do specific things to acquire xp would be better.

I mean, unless you're just debating for the hell of it, then rock on.

I understand limiting alts, and part of me is even a fan of it, really. I even understand aiming for a low XP game. But why allow alts and then go 'only 1 gets xp, or you have to pick where YOUR xp goes'. Seems to be moving the focus away from just letting people have fun and to some psuedo-justification-but-not-really-justification for having a high powered character.
