    • RE: Random GMC game brainstorming

On the topic of alts, also. I'm kind of torn. I used to be heavily in the 'oh god, why does this game let people play 3 or 5 or infinity characters?' But, when I was like that...I was actively playing 3+ games, with 1-2 characters on each, so it didn't matter to me. Currently, I have characters on a number of games. Reno, Eldritch, some star wars game, a couple others. But almost all of my playtime goes to Reno, and as soon as Hunter opens, I will have 3 characters there, and will be active on all of them.

Back to the XP thing briefly, I have a ghoul PC on Eldritch, who has 30xp currently, and has done 2 scenes, ever. (Literally.) Is that really hurting anybody? I guess you could make the argument of 'oh what if I suddenly start playing her, befriend Joe, and proceed to help PK poor Jane with all my idle-accrued RP', I think that is such an outlier, unlikely to happen situation that you shouldn't base your XP policies around things like that. How often do we seriously see PK these days?

I hate RfK's xp system, and I am baffled by the people complaining about auto-xp.

Why do you care? If you're some pillar of awesome that does "so much stuff!" and are the one true hero of MUing, out there generating all kinds of RP and are so much better than everybody else! You are still getting more xp, especially in a GMC system. So stop worrying about how Joe idles 6/7 days a week and has a decent level of XP. Jesus. Try to remember we're all here to have fun.

@Thenomain If you have 7th sea code, why isn't there a game of it around?????? I don't even know it, but I believe it's the same system as L5R? Which I have a little experience with.

Cancerous. Probably a bit strong. I am just really wanting /something/ besides WoD that actually has a book to support it. (And no, FATE doesn't count. 😞 )

Ark definitely has a point, it will absolutely get less players.

      Will it get /some/ though?

I really think a sandbox-y thing would work for a while. It'd give people a chance to peek at the book if they're interested, and decide if they like the stuff or not.

You could skip a lot of code by having +sheets saved on staff-locked character wiki pages or something of the sort until you see if the game'll last/get folks or not.

@Miss-Demeanor I'm not sure what my brain did there. Jumbled it up with the previous mentions of WoD, I guess. My apologies.

The point still largely stands, just swap the WoD for D&D. If somebody wants to make a game that isn't using one of the "popular" TTs, why tell them not to?

I know this will make @Misadventure want to slit my throat but I like D&D as well. Pathfinder as well I guess. But it's not really due to some nerdy which-ruleset-is-the-best inner debate but, rather, on the basis of recognition and media support in an attempt to have a game's mechanics be as immediately familiar as possible with as many potential players as can be.

Sure, the ultra honed heavily houseruled set of Bob's Fantasy Compedium (Eighth Edition) might be exactly right for... something, I dunno, but if no one's ever heard of that shit next to no one but friends and family is going to play it. The niche will be played by our community's equivalent to hipsters, roleplay will be incestuous at best and impossible to find at worst and all that effort might as well have gone to a Skype-ran campaign in the first place.

I really disagree and think this is an attitude that is cancerous to the future of the hobby.

Not every game needs to use WoD because 'omg the most people know it'.

If people want to ignore a game just because they don't feel like learning a new system, hey whatever, but that doesn't mean everybody should stop making anything that isn't WoD.

I would say, if you're going to do something like this, you do not need to fully code/etc the game before opening. Because yes, you MIGHT be wasting a hell of a lot of time. And if people log on and give you shit about the game being 'in progress', fuck them.

    • RE: Fallout to WoD Conversion

I don't feel like Fallout would be terribly fun with WoD mechanics.

Mortal WoD is pretty bland and boring, mechanically. Even with merits. Just because there's /only so many of them/. Especially if you're talking a setting like Fallout where everybody is largely going to have the exact same skills.

ETA : Fallout feels way too equipment/object-reliant for WoD's shitty EQ system, too.

      lol

A splat is a "type" of character, and interchangeable with 'sphere', in my experience. Werewolf is a splat. Vampire is a splat. Mage is a splat.

    • RE: Help me! ANSI coloring program?

I expect to be able to take a piece of ASCII art, copy/paste it into the program, and then highlight pieces of it and apply colors, then when I'm done, hit "convert" and it will give me the code to make that ascii art (meaning, with line returns and stuff) but also with the color code in it.

Kind of like the ascii2mu converter, but with ansi code too.

      Thanks, but yeah. 😞

Though, I guess I could use one of the macs at the college tmrw after class, if I really want to. Assuming they haven't disabled the program or something.

    • Help me! ANSI coloring program?

Okay, so this is mostly aimed at the Firan survivors who know wtf I'm talking about. Hell, I think <whoop had name wrong> made one, or was that somebody else? Looking for one of those programs that lets you color ascii and then converts it to code. One that works with 256 would be nice, but is not required, I'd be alright with the old one that only worked with the 16 colors.

ETA : If this is not the best section of the forum for this, feel free to move it!

I don't know much of anything about ShadowRun aside from "cyberpunk-ish" and a brief poke at that xbox360 game, but I would definitely be interested in poking at something different from the usual WoD games, so good luck!

Belatedly, I had asked about "prestige" ability boosting accessories, and apparently they do exist. Just found a +30% damage ring for 'Thousand Cuts' which is a Tempest (hey, that's me!) ability. Sadly, not the route I took my rogue, and I don't use Sera.

Is the number of dragons limited, or can you spawn random ones eventually? (Should I save all these tier 4 crafting materials until I have better schematics, or can I waste them now without stressing?)
