@Bobotron Jesus, they actually made playing a Tremere sound interesting with 30 seconds of nothing, as opposed to the past 20+ years of it just SUCKING.

RE: New Games and Feature Characters...
I have no good answers to this, except that from a narrative perspective tiers has never made much sense to me. You can write a story with Jimmy Olsen as the frontispiece and he can square off against all kinds of crazy crap. Because that's what Jimmy Olsen comics were, pretty much this:

RE: oWoD - Is there such thing as a good one?
@ganymede As a Covenant, I can't see how it doesn't provoke the same reaction as Belial's Brood, as written, because unlike the other four which seem to at least acknowledge the need for a society that allows them to survive, it seems to be geared toward being an active malefactor - at least as the flavor in the 2nd edition narrative spins it. But then again, Acolytes always seem to come out in the wash that way on a MUX anyway, sooooo...

RE: A (Mildly Complete) List of Current Games
@Bobotron If its fans can't kill it, nothing can.

RE: Legion World MUX Alpha
Things died down after an initial wave of curiosity, but we are still hammering away at this, making progress and figuring stuff out. At this point we're creeping into open Beta.

RE: oWoD - Is there such thing as a good one?
@bobotron I have issues with the Circle of the Crone as a covenant because the basic Mother's Army really is just "Wicca, but Evil" and as much as people like to rag on Wicca, it's pretty much benevolent and that is some lazy shit, along with the 1e depiction of the Lancea et Sanctum being some pretty heavy reflexive lashing-out against Judeo-Christian religion. The NWoD/Chronicles of Darkness writers tried to learn from their mistakes but carried a lot of them with them just the same, which is evident in their presentation of stuff like the Vodoun blood magic & etc.

RE: oWoD - Is there such thing as a good one?
This ties into the current fan-rage about Vampire 5th edition (a lot of which is I DETEST CHANGE AND FEAR THE NEW when you whip away the curtain... people are cowards) -- people are howling about edgelordy stuff in the new book and wearing rose-colored glasses about the stuff in the OLD books. Here's what I can remember, off the top of my head, without cracking a book:
- Flying cockhugger fomori who attack men in the middle of the night for their sperm so they can make Ferectoi
- Chad Fomori whose power is to rape you to death with their giant agg-dealing dicks.
- A transgender SS scientist Tzimisce who practices a nazi variant of the Path of Caine, wants to kill all the Jews and runs around in a bra with swastikas on it. Nobody remembers Totentanz and she used to be ALL OVER WHITE WOLF'S SABBAT STUFF.
- Each Setite clanbook having a pedophile example PC
- A Confederate Revivalist example PC in the Revised Brujah book
And that's just what I can remember without doing any research.

RE: Comics: Superman as a character
@arkandel It was Superman in 'Cave Carson as a Cybernetic Eye' that sealed the deal for me -- Superman understands that he does not have any sort of divine right to his power -- possessing it does not make him automatically deserving of having it. The paradox of power is that you can only show that you deserve it after you have it.

RE: Comics: Superman as a character
@chet Conversely the Flash is all about motion, speed. His (probably) most famous nemesis, Grodd, is literally a gorilla -- he is the definition of brute power. But he's also a telepath -- so he embodies both overwhelming power and attack WITHOUT motion.
So your theory holds some weight.

RE: Comics: Superman as a character
I thought this was going to be a discussion of the way Superman is played on games, which has been, based on passive observations, a textbook study in how having an encyclopedic knowledge of a character's adventures in no way confers and understanding of that character's psyche.
The real crux of the Superman story is surprisingly simple: he is a person who has power and strives to exercise it with responsibility and restraint. He is fundamentally opposed by those who have power but do not give a damn about either of those things.
All great Superman stories centering on conflicts between him and another character come down to an argument over use of power -- Superman vs. Lex Luthor, Superman vs. the Elite, Superman vs. Mongul, Superman vs. Brainiac, Superman vs. Hank Henshaw.

RE: Let's talk about TS.
...But then, thinking about it, autonomy seems to be a big theme of all my roleplay at this point and I'm amazed at how often that seems to baffle or upset people.
-
RE: Let's talk about TS.
I like TS; creative generation of smut is an exercise in writing skill and mutual fappery, a weird sort of human connection through text; but I've had people try to progress from TS into control/manipulation so often that these days if I engage in TS with someone I'm often accused of being "cold" or "distant" after -- and perhaps I am, but it's only because I've had people bend over backwards to try and take autonomy away from me and I loathe the idea of doing it to someone else.
And even when I say it that way, forthrightly, people don't seem to get it. I have had people try to fuck with my head before; I don't want to fuck with yours.

RE: What is your turning point?
My big turn-off, I'd have to say, is people who shut stuff down rather than looking for ways to build on stuff. For whatever reason.
People who may be otherwise great, but whose insecurity is so rife that the thought of you spending any time playing with anyone else drives them up the wall and across the ceiling.
People who lack the slightest bit of curiosity about canon material, especially on a canon or semi-canon game. Yeah, I know, decades of comic stories can be overwhelming (as an example), but take a little freakin' interest. You have chances to learn about a character you purportedly like -- take them.
Untrustworthy and/or bullying storytellers, storytellers who are deaf to player discomfort, willfully or not. Miss me with that shit.
People who play Nephandi, BSDs, Infernalists or Fomori on WoD games. Hard pass.

RE: Mutant Genesis (X-Men)
I'm pretty open and amenable to it. I'd like to sink my teeth into a long-term storyarc, so far I have Phoenix's main X-Plot but until the next RP for that rolls around, I got nothin' else goin'.
-
RE: Mutant Genesis (X-Men)
@Auspice None that I know of. If you've asked for RP in one of my various guises and I haven't responded, I do apologize.
-
RE: Mutant Genesis (X-Men)
Shit, I'll RP with almost anybody who hasn't given me just cause not to. Just ask.
-
RE: Mutant Genesis (X-Men)
I have had a hard time with that too, @Nein, and it seems to have gotten a little bit better as I become less of an unknown quantity(?), but there are some people who are entirely friendly but it just seems so difficult to move them IC. But that frustration seems to be endemic these days, since I wind up feeling that way at every game I play at.
Then again, I've been told by people I like that I'm intimidating; I know I have my moments of being a shit. So maybe it's me...

RE: Legion World MUX Alpha
I'll bring it up to ikaros since it's happened to a few people but honestly I don't know what's to be done. :c
-
RE: Legion World MUX Alpha
@coin My general opinion on it is that if you can tell me a good enough yarn, I'll allow it. This is the genre of the mad and the beautiful, after all.
