    • RE: What Do You Love About WoD?

      @ThatGuyThere said:

      I want to like Faraday but the combat being completely black box leaves me cold. I don't have anything against automated but at least let me know how the system works even if you have it do the work for me.

      I'm not entirely sure what this means. The documentation is out there.

      http://lynnfaraday.github.io/MUSH/fs3/mechanics.html

      And an organizer can grab a complete log of every roll the system makes using +combat/log

      I'm often annoyed with how little effort some game-runners put into explaining how it all works/clearly linking to this stuff, but that's another sort of issue.

      Me too! Though, for serious, they are a handy for 'This is sensible and articulate but I don't have anything further to add'.

      I don't think they're 'needed,' per se, but people are way less weird about them than downvotes, so they seem harmless, whereas downvotes were at times annoying.

      @WildBaboons said in High Fantasy:

      I had grand plans for a WoT MuSh using a slightly modified version of DF RPG. It fit so very well... but then realized I just don't have the time for that sort of endeavor, but it'd work! Especially for elemental based magic

      I'd play the hell out of that. I always felt like the setting worked very well as a MUSH (maybe better than it worked as a series of dramatic novels). There used to be a decent audience for WoT games and I suspect it's still out there.

      FF7 was a Playstation exclusive for a limited time. It was released less than a year later for PC (on, like, 8 CDs). I'm not worried about that being the case; I'm worried about there never being a PC release.

      3 CDs! 4 if you include the 'Install' disk. I still have my copy of FF7 (and FF8) for PC.

    • RE: A new platform?

      There's not a platform that does all the things MUs do in terms of persistent, shared environment for real time RP, at least not in my experience. Platforms like dreamwidth journal rp and tumblr rp are very popular but also pretty dissimilar in terms of the experience they offer. I do feel like it wouldn't be hard to take what Roll20 has done and introduce more support for an ongoing world, it just doesn't seem to be what they think the audience is.

      Ares and Evennia seem ultra promising and I'm curious if they expand the audience for this type of RP.

      @Arkandel said in Downvotes:

      @Three-Eyed-Crow I think downvotes would have worked better if their source was visible.

      Yeah. It's hard to tell, because they weren't visible to everyone for very long, but I did prefer it that way.

      As much as I enjoyed serial-downvoting @Anonymous (no regrets, every post of theirs was some damn nonsense) I will not miss them.

      @krmbm said in Wheel of Time MU(SH|X):

      @Seraphim73 Never finished the books. 😛 The world is interesting. 30,000 pages of "and then we go here and do nothing" is not.

      Same. I got burnt out and rage-y around Path of Daggers (it was my first Rage Series. Oh, those bygone days of youth). I keep meaning to go back, as I'm told Brandon Sanderson actually finished things pretty strong but...so many pages, so many characters I stopped liking three books before quitting.

      I think I enjoyed it as an RP setting far more than I enjoyed it as a series of books.

    • RE: Cheap or Free Games!

      @Insomnia said:

      My like is cheaply bought when it comes to not shit games. Especially when they are free! That means I don't have to give EA any money. I don't know why, but they make it painful to try and give them money.

      My last attempt to buy a game on Origin, grudgingly, ended in five credit card processing errors in a row and me ordering my first physical disk I've bought in about three years from Amazon, because fuck that. This probably has something to do with the hacker who tried to use my account to buy a bunch of copies of FIFA a few months ago (unsuccessfully, I will at least give their security people props for that). I do more online shopping than my wallet would like me to, and I've never encountered more annoyances with actually purchasing shit than I do with Origin.

      @apos
      See, my spawns blink with the rest of my activity notifications (which Potato is shit at and often drives me nuts, I dream of better days! But will never be a Mac user so as sure I am that Atlantis is wonderful, so it goes!). Which at least keeps up with them, but it also kind of maddening. Would be nice to have the discord/slack feature to mute a particular channel window without creating a totally different spawn or leaving the channel but, as has been said up-top, Ares already seems to be heading toward this functionality. So I dream of better days on my PC more realistically.

    • RE: Greetings and Salutations

      Echoing the thanks for putting this together. For better or worse, WORA was the only MU*-focused discussion board that really existed, and it'd be a shame to lose it for community's sake.

      I do hope the old board is eventually recovered as an archive at least, like SWOFA exists now. I still occasionally direct my fellow players to old threads, just for the record-keeping of it all.

    • RE: Wheel of Time MU(SH|X)

      I also really like @Seraphim73's idea for a setting. In my ideal world it would do away with Rand (and all the book characters) altogether. Maybe say it's a different timeline with a different - NPC - Dragon Reborn. But I think the Arad Doman/Saldaea area would provide a lot of easy conflict, give reasons for Aes Sedai and Warders to be hanging around a place that wasn't Tar Valon, and could theoretically draw characters from other areas more easily than a place like Cairhien.

      I mean if someone is routinely taking 15 or 20 minutes to pose without explanation will ask them why, because that is not how I like to play and I probably want to exit that scene if it's not a temporary thing.

    • RE: Roll20

      I like Roll20 a great deal for online TTs but it doesn't strike me as really having the tools to act as a MU alternative at this time. The text interface is fine to capture play in a particular session, but saving completed scenes/subsequently linking them all together took additional work in gdocs or a separate wiki. You can run it alongside a MU client, of course, but once you're doing that I question why you aren't playing solely in the client or solely on Roll20.

      All that said, I suspect the features it lacks are a matter of things not being requested/the developers not perceiving there's an audience for persistent text environment support, since it's mainly a TT session platform at this point. I value it a lot for what it is.

    • RE: Specific MU request

      I honestly don't mean to be snide, but if you're just asking about "clique" as "tight-knit group of people," this doesn't exist. And I agree they're fairly neutral. Any collection of humans that number more than 3 people will break into cliques. They're only bad if they get all Mean Girl to newbs or set out to actively denegrate players they don't like, and this isn't behavior that's really predictable until you're a victim of it. Nor is it exclusive to any particular MU* or game.
