      the less blatant the stereotyping

I don't know if it's less blatant, but less... offensive? As in the stereotyping has been around for so long that we understand it not to be hurtful a lot more. The Norwegians are rich, the Irish are drunks, the Danes can't speak without sounding like they've got a mouth full of potatoes, the Germans are humourless drones, etc.

@L-B-Heuschkel True, but at the same time we've been saying these things for centuries. And we know, generally, they're not true even if we say them. They're not innocent by any means, but they're very rarely taken seriously by anyone intelligent or important.

      We're marking/grading. It's so dull.

@Pandora Oh I agree, a more diverse player base leads to more actual diversity on games, that's a no brainer. But that's a very long term, and difficult plan that requires actual... recruiting, to an ancient system. There's no real easy "and this is how you MU" since everyone has different ideas of what is acceptable or proper.

That and we're a rather insular bunch, at least from my experience. If you don't know something mechanical, you'll get help. But if you overstep one of our many unwritten social codes, it's rare that an explanation is given. So I'd say that technically the learning curve is small, but in reality that's rarely the case.

ETA: Thirty copies of practically the same report? I thought that was a journal?

That and teaching. Which is what I and @JinShei do.

I would wince for you, but I'm still too relieved that marking doesn't refer to something related to furries.

You think a Skype call is bad, try doing it with a class of inattentive fifteen-year-olds.
      Now you may wince.

Yeah uh I've definitely heard assertions that I am playing some kind of gay fetish character and I found them pretty depressing considering I haven't even had any sex on the character in yeeaaars.

It definitely happens that players do this and that there are many awful fetish caricatures out there -- but it also happens that it is weaponized as a critique, particularly against players who aren't doing what you want, I guess.

I have definitely had hetero sex with your 'gay fetish' character

      That's the fetish.

To be fair, though. Most men these days are enough to turn women gay and other men straight.

I specifically avoid games run by people who harp on about this sort of thing. Please don't do this. It really hurts your reputation.

My particular point is that I think it would be nice if there were more roster characters that were unambiguously written as being LGBTQIA

While I agree in theory, in principle I don't. The ideal roster character, in my view, is one that has a story but with details to be worked out by the player. The more room for player-driven customisation the better.

My delightful neighbours had a proper cat-fight domestic in their garden last night at midnight. I'm so tired I want to kill people. Mostly them. I also don't want to know half the details and not the preceding event. Is it rude to knock on their door and say "Look, I know that one of the women said something but WHAT WAS IT?"

All local news channels should investigate such disturbances so that those forced to listen to them can at least understand the context.
