    • RE: RL things I love

      My friend is running a game for four of us via Roll20, using something of a homebrewed Savage Worlds set up. I am playing a circus bear. A literal, non-sentient circus bear. He's been so much fun! I wasn't sure about it, especially when learning he can't speak, but he is a blast to play as. So far he has:

      • Sat on a crawling skeleton, causing it to explode and its skull to land in a pond of caustic water, dissolving it.
      • Bear hugged a goblin so hard its arms literally popped off.
      • Inadvertently killed the goblin next to the one whose arms popped off after an arm hit it.
      • Eaten pretty much everything dead/almost dead that he could because CARRION EATER, hello?

      I can't wait until next week's session. 😄

      ETA: My bad, got the name wrong. The RPG system he homebrewed is Dungeon World.

    • RE: Best IC Character Deaths

      On SW1 I let a character go after she had been ruined for me (yay, OOC drama :P). Friend of mine who played one of the biggest-and-baddest Imperials offered to kill her off instead of just letting her idle off into obscurity. I was for it as it seemed like it'd be fun, the other person was a great RPer and everything.

      I don't remember all the details, but after my character met with his and there being a whole lot of awesome dialog, my character wound up losing her head. Literally. The other player did something that I didn't know he'd do, that being sending her head to the Jedi temple which upset at least one person, OOCly, but other than that it was freaking coooooool!

    • Minecrafting In The Fight Against Cancer

      Tomorrow, from noon to midnight CST, I am going to be ringing in the New Year by doing a 12 hour Minecraft stream to try and raise money for the American Cancer Society in honor of my aunt who lost her life to the disease. The campaign link is: https://tiltify.com/@tiredewok/ewoks-fighting-cancer and my twitch link is twitch.tv/tiredewok . The goal is $150.

      (as if y'all can't tell, self-promotion isn't exactly my strong point, sorry!)

    • RE: Autism and The MU* Community

      My oldest was diagnosed as being autistic at the age of five. There were always hints to his being so from as young as several months old - disliked being held as a baby, motor skill and speech delays, etc - but it isn't something doctors are trained to diagnose, from what we were told later on. The Navy doctors were under the belief that he was ADHD but wouldn't medicate him because he was too young. It wasn't their fault, again they weren't trained to know how to diagnosed autism. Thankfully, when he entered kindergarten they were able to finally figure out what was going on.

      Being in a position to afford the $585 plumbing bill in one fowl swoop instead of having to do payments. Yes, it put us in a bit of a tight spot for a bit and we are now behind on saving up for a down payment on a house but it is still much better than having to rely on credit or loans to be able to afford an emergency repair bill.

      For anyone who plays Overwatch and doesn't know, Blizzard currently has a charity Pink Mercy skin that supports the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, a foundation which puts 91% of all money donated towards breast cancer research. It is admittedly a little pricey at $15 (I was fortunate enough to be gifted it by a friend), but all of the $15 goes towards the BCRF.

      @auspice

      Oh fuck. I sadly fell victim to his lies and had even left BSO for a while because of them. Thankfully Dropkick is a sweetheart and let me return once I got hit upside the head by a self-induced clue-by-four and came back.

      Marcus was after Zach, yes?

      After fourteen plus years, I got to do some RPing that didn't involve a mush! A friend ran an OTT via Roll20 and it was so much fun! I just might have to try and find an easy module for me to run.

    • RE: Reasons why you quit a game...

      Some of the reasons I quit a game:

      I get to where I feel like my character's story has been told and I don't feel inspired to make a new character.

      I have some kind of interpersonal issues with someone and I can't be assed into sticking around and dealing with the drama.

      Staff somehow proves to be untrustworthy to the point where sticking around would prod at my conscience.

      I get bored with the theme.

      There's nothing to be done about points one or four, and even point number two really isn't something bad. I just prefer to spend my time where I don't have to deal with that kind of crap. Point three, however... well, we've been talking about staff ethics and similar topics in other threads so I won't beat that into the ground here.

      I don't know if anyone mentioned this game already or not, but Papers, Please is remarkably fun. And, for what it is, it gets surprisingly complex the further into the game you get.

    • RE: The OOC Masquerade ?

      @Ghost

      And nothing I said even involved metagaming. I didn't say anything about using it for personal advantage. I simply said that it kind of makes it obvious what sphere a person plays in. As for your example of the PCs who work at night? Sure, that is an exception, but they can still go out to other parts of the grid if you're not RPing where/when they work. So my opinion is still very valid. The OOC masq did not work and was a ridiculous thing for people to have had enforced upon them. Point blank. Full fucking stop.

    • RE: The Eighth Sea - Here There Be Monsters

      @arkandel

      This was my experience as well. Staff asked me for a little more detail on my character's BG to explain why she feels a certain way about something and was done so in a way that also explained something about the theme and how people, as a whole, look upon that subject. Helped me get a little more into my character's psyche at the same time it provided staff with the information they wanted.
