She hasn't died yet but from the tone and word choice of the reports, it sounds like Aretha Franklin doesn't have long left.

EDIT: So if reaming me out for going against the grain is commonplace here, I'll cop that on the nose.
Really? 'Going against the grain' is what you got out of this?

RE: Dreamwalk MUSH
Sounds interesting. One thing though leapt out at me...
and how many words you wrote.
I don't like the idea of encouraging nonsensical purple prose that takes a half hour to write and even longer to interpret. It actively punishes those who pose concisely.

RE: Horror MUX - Discussion
The size of the events just kept me from even trying to get involved. 5 people is about my limit. A dozen just drives me away.

I put on my FB that I wanted to learn Spanish.
It hadn't been a half hour when my mother calls me FREAKING OUT about 'why do you need to learn Spanish?!?!'
I don't think she believed me when I said I just wanted to learn it to learn it.

ETA: Like seriously. Why else would I? more importantly, WTF is it a reason to freak out for?
You're obviously planning on moving to a Spanish speaking country.

@insomnia said in MSB, SJW, and other acronyms:
@insomniac7809 I get that, I guess I just don't get the people who want the label and are trying to take it back. I mean, does doing good need a label? If you stand for something, stand up for it. I'm not saying being an SJW is a bad thing, but if I ever used it, it would be using it on people who are already acting like asshats in the first place.
Again it goes back to the whole intent thing and not really being able to read tone in writing.
Possibly because they refuse to buy into the right wing party line. Just like how the American Right, years ago, redefined liberal in order to insult and dismiss anyone on the left, they're doing the same with SJW. It's a favorite tactic in their play book.

Ugh, has this really already devolved into "There's no reason why anyone would want to do things other than the way I prefer"? Like. Really? No room for "different types of games have different needs" and "different types of players play in different ways"?
Doesn't it always?

RE: New Games and Feature Characters...
In general, I'm wary of games where the WHO or +who list does not include the number of unique logons. I want to know if those 50 alts really belong to just 10 players.

You, as staff, are fundamentally advantaged. The moment it opens you are first past the post, guaranteed. No one else can claim that advantage.
What kind of advantage is that? What does it put you in position to do?
Nevermind I can hardly imagine the kind of nightmare a game would be where being ahead of others by three days conveys tangible gains. What happens when I decide to take a weekend off?
The advantage is having first choice of FCs. Naturally, this applies only to games that actually have FCs such as comics games and those with roster characters.
Think of it as hosts at a party setting out a buffet of chocolates but they and their friends eat all the caramels and nut clusters and leave only the icky raspberry cremes.

RE: San Francisco: Paris of the West
@sunnyj Castiel is the admin. Ahriman was TL. If Castiel was promoted they didn't update the wiki or his staff position.

RE: San Francisco: Paris of the West
@calibraxa Looks like they no longer have a Werewolf TL so that probably explains it.

RE: RL things I love
One of mine is not quite 10 yet and started losing weight for no reason. No other symptoms. I immediately had him checked out and had blood drawn. I suspected what it might be and hoped it was that because the other obvious option is cancer.
I was right and he turned out to be hyperthyroid, a very common thing in cats right around that age. I got him radioiodine therapy and he had a bad reaction to it (despite what the vet tells you, the rare cat does react badly to it just like humans). After the 3-4 days quarantine, he came home but got very lethargic and wouldn't eat. He wanted to but was obviously nauseous and would throw up bile. Didn't eat anything for about 6 days.
Fortunately, he got through it and is now back to normal, minus being hyper from too much thyroid hormone. The whole experience of seeing him like that and not being able to do anything to help just killed me.
The life of a pet's human.

@botulism Just thinking that if you only have fewer than 10 left, they may not be ones that people particularly want to play.
Well, different things appeal to different people. At this very moment, they are:
The Adjudicator: Conflict - it's what makes a story go. You are always trying to solve them, to get everyone to work together and be on the same page. You know what's fair, and that's what matters.
The Bon-Vivant: Today you shall party, for tomorrow you'll probably die. Live life to the fullest, enjoy every last thing you can, and always leave a fabulous corpse. The world is ending - drink up!
The Caregiver: You nurture, protect and guide those who need it most, and nothing makes you happier than being needed. You're always ready with a shoulder to cry on, some bandages and a few encouraging words.
The Confidant: There's always that one person that people just innately trust and can talk to about pretty much anything, and you're that person. You help them with their problems and share the weight of their burdens.
The Healer: You're driven to fix others, body, mind or spirit. You can't stand to see others suffer or in distress. Do what you can for those in need and make the world a better place one person at a time.
The Idealist: Every story has a moral, and finding and furthering it is what you do. You believe firmly in something and you seek to show others that truth, no matter the cost.
The Innocent: You're in over your head and not prepared for any of this. You look for others to protect you and keep you safe, and your naivete only makes that harder.
The Optimist: The world can be a better place. It has to be possible, or why even bother? You know you can pull it off, whatever it is, and things will be all right in the end.
The Perfectionist: Nothing is ever good enough, and no one is perfect. It drives you crazy. The perfect isn't the enemy of the good, it's superior to it. Always expect more of yourself and others.

Saw The Towering Inferno the other day.
Richard Chamberlain really nailed playing a shitheel in that movie, it was great. Also watching Steve McQueen and Paul Neuman trying to out macho each other was a real treat as well.
I remember seeing this as a kid in the theater. Scared the shit out of me. Monster movies didn't bother me at all but 'realistic' disaster movies always bothered me.

I'm 90% certain anyone who was working on an app at the time it was closed will be approved. I vaguely recall Gabriel saying he had intended on 25 Mages to begin with. I definitely recall him mentioning the number of already approved and the number still apping and it was over 40.
