@tinuviel Reminds me of 'niggardly'. No, it is not racist. No, it is in fact completely unrelated. No, it is not just a matter of linguistic redefinition. They are completely separate words, completely separate meanings, with completely separate etymology. They just happen to sound similar when pronounced a certain way.

I was woken up in the middle of the night(or day for the rest of you normal sleeping hours people)with a cramp in my calf so bad that it woke me up and forced me to jump out of my bed and stretch my leg out.
Nothing like waking up after being in a dead sleep with crippling pain. Because I'm limping around my apartment going 'ow ow ow ow'.
I used to get those. Calf muscle spasms are pretty common at night. Haven't had one since I started eating a banana every day years ago. Try it.

RE: Random links
I'm with @Ganymede here. Just from what I read, I don't see anything particularly objectionable. In fact, if it makes someone realize that this is actually happening in the Real World (but, you know, minus the vampires) it's a good thing. How many gamers know there's a purge of the LGBTQ community in Chechnya and other nearby countries. If fiction leads to real world awareness, it's a good thing.
I'm just pissed they didn't give us gays any magical blood powers.

RE: RL Anger
It also helps if you're in a blue state. Taking NY as an example...
Medicaid is federally funded but state run. Making numbers up, let's say you qualify for Medicaid if you make less than 20k a year. Now lets say you qualify for Obamacare's premium assistance if you make over 35k a year. Notice the gap there?
Obamacare allocated funds to the states for expanded Medicaid. It was intended to create a program to help insure people who made too much for Medicaid but too little to get federal assistance in paying their insurance premiums for the marketplace plans. The catch is, it was optional.
Most blue states did so. NY has 'essential plans': 4 tiers to fill that gap that cost you nothing or next to nothing. Live in a red state such as Texas and you're screwed.

Looked into dental insurance once. They suck. I just signed up for a dental discount plan. The savings are much better.

IDK where to look for decent game reviews these days.
Assassin's Creed Odyssey any good?
Was wondering the same. I don't really like AC. But I was told this one is a lot more RPG oriented.

Think it's important to remember that this isn't an either/or situation. The problem can and should be approached from multiple angles.

RE: Marvel: 1963+
@666stringsamurai I hope you give the new game a shot once it's open. You're welcome there, either with Elmo or a different character.

RE: Forgiveness in Mushing
Personally, I think MSB is only a microcosm of the internet as a whole and there's no thing about this hobby that is in any way different. See 4chan for instance. Or any comment section. Further, I think the internet is just humanity in general with anonymity and what you see is what you get.
How does that apply to this thread? I think that it applies in the same exact way to forgiveness and forgetting. People don't forget. Ever. The phrase 'Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.' was coined long before the internet was a thing. As for forgiveness...
Offline, there are repercussions for behavior that you can't escape. You also can't type 'quit' or put someone on an ignore list. You might 'forgive' someone in word, publicly, solely for the sake of social obligations and pressures. But they don't, not really. Not completely. I'm sure some particularly altruistic ones might but you'll also see the reasoning that forgiving someone is as much for yourself as for them so you're not carrying it around with you. It's arguable if that's truly forgiveness of that other person or just healthy selfishness.
Of course, it also depends on how close to someone you are. Speaking for myself, very, very few people online are close enough to me to truly affect me in some way which makes forgiveness kind of moot. That's not to say I'll ever forget what happened. Depending on what it is, they might be given the benefit of the doubt or a second chance or just ignored.

@tnp I'll follow y'all to the next one if you allow OCs, especially if you let folks bring their immortal ones over. What's 40 years? xD
Yes, OCs will be allowed.

RE: Marvel: 1963+
Okay. Daire managed to recover the database and loaded the game onto his own server. There are no plans to keep the game going indefinitely.
There are plans though to make a new supers game, a modern one. However, till that's ready to go, people are welcome to continue playing on M63. The address is:
208.97.141.242 port 6000. Consider it unsupported and no new characters will be approved.

RE: What's out there now and what has been attempted? A codebase discussion.
@kumakun Regardless of what you do, one thing is absolutely vital: well written, WELL ORGANIZED, help files. Nothing turns me off more than not being able to find what I need to find in order to do something.

@sunny Yeah, I"m going to miss him a great deal. Ever since we met on the 100 Mush 2.5 years ago, I think we talked almost every day. Probably... 850 out of 900. And now never again.
@Ganymede If/when I hear something, I'll post it.

RE: What's out there now and what has been attempted? A codebase discussion.
@faraday I have no clue what you're talking about so how would I know if I need/want them or not? @mentions? Mark down formatting? Seems like part of the problem right there.

@faraday said in What's out there now and what has been attempted? A codebase discussion.:
But the simple, inescapable fact is that the overwhelming majority of veteran MU players will not switch to a new client. I've still got people reporting Ares issues with SimpleMU for pete's sake, and that hasn't been supported in, like, a decade.
Thing is, it doesn't need to be supported because it already does things well. I've tried Potato. It's okay. It can do things Simplemu can't: things I don't really need nor want. Things that aren't worth the time investment needed to learn the ins and outs of a new client that behaves differently to things that are now automatic to me when using SImplemu. The one thing about Simplemu that it can't do that I'd like is the expanded color palette. But that's so minor, it's not worth switching.
So a new client, web or otherwise, would need to do things so radically better than Simplemu to make it worthwhile. And for simple text based gaming, what do we really need? A few extra bells and whistles don't cut it.

Well. It's unlikely the game will ever reopen. Consider it closed.

I am really sorry to hear that. Do we know why, if it's OK to ask?
I don't know the exact cod but he was hospitalized for liver and kidney issues.
