I'm kind of wondering why in the world would you open the game up to alts at this time? You close apps for new players because there's too many people then 2 weeks later, potentially double the number of characters by allowing alts.

The only value a hobby should have is if you're enjoying doing it. Anything else is a bonus.

RE: criticism not allowed in ad threads is only enforcing a false positive, prove me wrong
@faraday said in criticism not allowed in ad threads is only enforcing a false positive, prove me wrong:
I don't understand why we can't just lock the ad threads once they're posted. Preferably to the owner so they can update it as needed,
Agreed. The ad forum should be limited to 'this game exists'. A second post by admin should be a link to another thread to discuss the pros and con.

Hardly a life cut short. That being said... Well, shit. There was, literally, no one else like her. She was unique. I saw her in Hello Dolly on Broadway back in the late 70s. Wish I remembered it better.

RE: Tools, and not just Beiber.
I hate not having OOC rooms. I find all the channel chatter spammy and annoying and just turn them off permanently. If I want OOC interaction, I go to the OOC room.

RE: How Best To Help
While I always read news files and wiki pages, sometimes I do miss something I'm looking for. So:
Q: blah blah blah
A: blah blah blah blah. It's on this page with a lot of other good info. That's the best answer.

Ruins of Pern - Discussion
@puppybreath I haven't read any of the Pern books in a long time. Is this following the time of Moreta? I don't recall if they consolidated into just one Hold after those books, just that it was a time of pandemic.

Ok but like, who wants to go all in on building a dragon breeding code with me for my game idea.
Anyone?
One day, I will do it. Because a dragon breeding minigame sounds fun as shit. And by one day, you guys know what I mean.
So everyone can have a gold of their own?

Sanctuary
So, I'm not staff or even friends with staff (that I know of) but since there's no thread for this game and there was such excitement over Spirit Lake (now closed to apps) that I thought I'd bring this to peoples' attention.
Sanctuary: modern urban fantasy though set in a small town in the same vein as Midnight, Texas the show and the books. Here's the link to the wiki. Check it out and app cause I just apped there and it's still very small and more people to play with would be cool.

Don't view them as cataracts. View them as free lasik.
Heh. I have minor cataracts and my last doctor visit he mentioned that they could conceivably never get bad enough to warrant doing anything about. I'm almost disappointed because insurance will pay to remove cataracts but not for lasik or other similar procedures. If I had the cataracts removed, they could do both at once and it would be so much cheaper.

RE: Marvel: 1963+
So, as promised, here's an update.
We have a name. Empire State Heroes.
Obviously, it's taking place in NYC. It is set in the Marvel universe but we will accept characters from any publisher with the caveat they have to be tweaked so as to have always been part of the Marvel universe. This is the same as M63 was and we just like it.
We're using the same code as M63 (thank you @ixokai ) as it's pretty awesome. There will still be loggers capable of posting directly to the wiki. The grid is pretty much the same though obviously the descs will be updated and some rooms have been added. Staten Island is now filling in for Gotham, for instance.
Here's a blurb from the home page of the wiki:
New York City sits poised on the cusp of a period of rebirth, renewal, exploration, and growth as it takes the spotlight on a global stage. Our game begins in 2019, in a period of rebuilding after a series of attacks on the United Nations left a large section of the city devastated. The United Nations is in a period of rebuilding. Superhero factions are working to regroup, and are working to regain and strengthen government recognition on a global stage.
Globalism has become a very real possibility as nations all over the world argue the pros and cons of establishing a Global government, recognizing the need to represent the entire planet in an ever-expanding world where an alien presence is very real. In orbit, a space station is being built as a point of entry for those coming in from off-world, both for security and diplomatic purposes.
From the neighborhood to the skies, people both powered and otherwise are finding the world becoming a much smaller place, and all will be called upon to aid in issuing the world toward this new future.
Further updates as we progress. I'll go out on a limb and say we should be open by March. It's possible we might be open sooner Once we have a more firm idea, I'll start it's own thread.

Bag Balm. Originally made to soothe cows' udders but now for humans too. This also contains lanolin.

RE: YA Fantasy Recommendations
They're not new but published in the 80s they're might be old enough to be new to her. In any case, I liked a bunch of Tamora Pierce's YA books. She's till writing I think so could have new stuff.

I just don't understand how hair gets everywhere, even on clothes kept away from the furry bastards.
There is cat hair in my freezer. How? I don't know. I'm not petting them while the freezer is open. And yet, it's there. Likely osmosis.

@derp said in Who are you?:
I plan on getting tattoos, but I worry that having to wear cloth over them is going to screw them up.
It won't. In fact, they'll last longer in better shape away from constant exposure to the sun.
Get them on a Friday so you have the weekend to care for them well though it's not necessary. My last one, two weeks ago or so, I got on a Tuesday but dress code is business casual. You'll need to keep it well moisturized so I had a small bottle in my pocket and added a layer on my breaks and lunch.
You should be fine regardless of when you get it done. Just read up on aftercare and be liberal with moisturizer. (Ice packs are great for the inevitable itching. Don't scratch!)

@tnp To a point. I can easily explain things to the school executive (who, in this case, are fellow educators). Can't explain shit to people with custard instead of brains.
Eh, I've heard enough stories about parents from teachers to not be surprised by how stupid / bigoted / apathetic they are. Their precious little angels can do no wrong, are brilliant and deserving of all As, and should never, ever be taught anything the parents don't approve of.
The administration might also be teachers (hopefully) but once they cave to parental pressure, the war is lost.

@insomniac7809 Nah, this was from a parent, unfortunately.
Don't you mean fortunately? A parent you can basically ignore. If the school administration told you to stop, then it would be unfortunate.

Learn to say no. It's your health. You're your best advocate.
I'm going to prescribe you X.
No, it doesn't agree with me.
The initial side effects...
No.
I've really had some good results with...
No.If you can document your reasons, such as you were on it from this date to this date and this dosage, etc even better. You'll be taken more seriously. Women especially.
