@kay said in Interest check: pure OC superhero game:

@TNP - Understood! As I asked the others, would you be wiling to expand on why? The more feedback I get the more helpful it is.

Sure. Part of it is much of what @ixokai has said. I'm also one of the staff on Marvel: 1963 and sometimes the historical setting can be a headache to figure out what fits. Even earlier will be worse.

Speaking as a potential player, I'm kind of superhero historied out Speaking from a staffly perspective, setting it in the 30s-40s will limit potential concepts. You're going to need to scale back all tech concepts by almost a century. Power armor users? Cyborgs? Androids? Giant robots?

It can be done but it's a huge pain in the ass to keep the feeling of the decade while not telling someone no outright.

Definitely prefer modern or somewhat futuristic.

There's not a single function/program/app that can convert this DB into something compatible with any other decent forum software? Not one?

@wildbaboons And absolutely is not for me due to the setting and people running it.

      Who's running it?

But hey, that's okay because that was okay if there was a large enough age gap! That's what mentoring those boys entailed... so... yeah.

Not necessarily boys though. See the Sacred Band of Thebes.

@roz said in Hello MSBites! Grade your administrators.:

Leave ad threads for the ads, ad updates, and maybe links to discussion posts elsewhere on the forum. Either lock it (if the functionality exists) or delete extraneous posts.

Yes. After the initial ad post, lock it. A mod can create a Q&A thread in Mildly Constructive and a Game Review thread in the Hog Pit and link both of them in the ad itself.

People can have the choice of going to read the reviews which can be positive or negative. The Q&A should be only for exactly that: Q&A.

And no moving posts. If someone crosses the line outside the Hog Pit, warn them and delete the post. If they continue, ban them for increasing amounts of time. If you're going to moderate the board, you need to moderate it. That means consequences for violations. Theoretically, everyone here is a relatively intelligent adult and should be able to follow simple rules. Or failing that, at least learn from being punished.

I don't disagree with you. Thus, I quit mushing and scaled my involvement here way back.

Isn't that backwards? I'd think you should quit MSB and scale back Mu*ing if you want to avoid negativity.

By that, I mean that it's a lot easier to have fun on a Mu* than here since so much of MSB and the Hog Pit is all about negativity while you can just play with people you enjoy playing with on a Mu*.

I know you apped once or twice on M:1963 but never seemed to be able to get into it. Which is a shame since I know several people who always enjoyed playing with you and would still like to do so (myself included).

    • RE: Now Open! Welcome to Lovecraft

@botulism Because there's an 'amount of RP' threshold to keep my interest. When it's not met, my interest in the character wanes much like what happens if approval doesn't come quickly enough (which was not a case here, it's just similar). Small game, bad timezones.

If whoever it is is happy with the amount of RP she gets? Great. Everyone's different.

That actually illustrates my problem with the game. Honestly, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who couldn't play PST hours. If you can? You can have fun.

@cobaltasaurus That's a red flag. Get a new job ASAP. Nobody overstaffs, ever. The whole 'do this or I cut hours/positions' thing is a sign they plan to do that anyways, and want to justify it so they don't look like the bad guy.

Or just a blatant threat to keep you scared of losing your job. Either way, yeah. Not a good place to be.

Or say fuck XP. Everyone starts at level 5 or 10 or 15 or whatever and they stay there. The game becomes about only RP and not leveling.

    • RE: Travel Times - Enforced?

@sunny said in Travel Times - Enforced?:

'If you aren't here at start, you can't automagically join the scene. If you would like an exception to this, you may explain briefly to the staffer running the scene why said exception should be made. As with other rule challenges and issues, the answer they give you is final. If you wish to appeal, you can do so after the conclusion of the scene, via an appeal to headstaff, as you would do with any other rule issues.'

Removes the possibility for the posse coming from every corner of the galaxy, but allows for 'hey I live in this damn house and haven't been anywhere else in a week' still.

ETA: Some issues you cannot solve with more rules, and instead have to solve with a combination of communication and judgment.

It would be easy enough to code something simple that before an official event starts, you lock the entire planet from @tel, +travel and +meetme commands. You could even lock it down for 24-48 hours before the event.

Walgreens. I hate Walgreens. Not for any particular reason other than how cheap they mark down Easter candy after the holiday. Do the same with Valentines Day and Xmas.

I don't need this kind of temptation in my life. I don't need to know how cheap bags of Cadbury mini-eggs are.

I wish you hadn't said that. I have a prescription to pick up there tomorrow.
