@surreality That's a good example. And just like choosing what weapon you need to take down the target, you need to choose the right caliber of guy (no, not size). Does he like bears? Twinks? Jocks, frat guys, otters? Sure, you could fire a .22 at a rhino but it's not going to do much. You might make some impact but you also might need to fire a dozen shots where a single one could work instead.

@auspice Yeah, I still have all my claim notes.
mountainous - row 0,1,1,3,4,6 - You fly along what appears to be a mountainous region. Perhaps if you fly lower you'll find a place to land your sled. - safe - push boulder - clear rubble
mountains - row 0,0,1,2,2,3,3,3,4,5,6,6,7,8 - Below, three huge mountains nearly obscure a tiny valley. If you circle a while, you might find a place to land. - minor injury, carton dest - just wait under falls
keyword, description you see flying above it, notes on how to how to get to the crystal and what, if anything, is needed. I was also keeping track of which row the claim was being found in each time in case there was a pattern.
I was Jasen, btw. And Olaf was my sorter.

RE: CrystalMUSH
Not sure if black was assigned or not but it wasn't because of any feature thing. My very first character on the game (only had 2) was attuned to black. Made it very easy to upgrade everything and become the richest singer.
There was still a decent number of people on the game but maybe it was already past its heyday as not a single planet ever had anything going on.
Also, it's not MUDlike in that there are no mobs, no combat (unless RPed), no stats. Once you figured out which claims would maim you, it was easy enough to just avoid them as they never changed though the location on the grid did.

RE: CrystalMUSH
Pipe Dream. I was pretty active there for a while with my Singer and then my Sorter. But that was a long time ago and I think the time for that kind of game has ended. It's way too code heavy in a way that's geared solely to solitary activities (Singers going out into the Range, spending WAY too much time searching a grid (BORING) and then cutting crystal. Searching took something like 75% of the time I was logged on and doing Singer stuff. Likewise, sorting isn't really a RP activity either.

@tnp Well, unfortunately not every game and every setting will offer every option desired. The point is that barring OCs isn't about social discrimination, it's about the intended focus on existing characters.
Agreed. But social discrimination is a side effect and one that perhaps wasn't take into consideration.

RE: DC : Gods and Monsters MUX
The point is that someone who is transgendered might like to play a transgendered superhero. I can't think of a single FC who is off the top of my head though I imagine a google search might find one. Somewhere.

RE: DC : Gods and Monsters MUX
Barring OCs (Mutant Genesis has the same policy) is problematic for reasons that go beyond just wanting to play an OC. Feel free to move this to its own thread but official answers from staff would be nice.

LGBT characters are much more rare than straight ones. Trans especially. And many of them, to put it simply, suck. Not in a good way. Is it okay to gay up a straight FC? How about making one transgender?
-
A lot of the best FCs are male. There are certainly some awesome female characters but the majority of the 'best' ones are male. Gender swaps allowed?
-
In the same vein, the vast majority of FCs are white. It okay to change their race from caucasian?
People like playing characters that mean something to themselves. Often this means ones that reflect them in some way. FC only makes this much, much harder if not impossible.

RE: 'The Magicians' mechanics with FS3
Gods, I hate FATE. But I'd prefer it over FS3. I don't hate FS3 at all but I think it encourages combat more than RP. That's not a fault of the system but the ones playing it.

RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
If I'm not in the middle of anything, I just play along and make them waste their time for 10-15 minutes. Pretend to be hard of hearing and make them repeat themselves several times. Tell them to hold while I go find my credit card. Make up a number and when that doesn't work, give them a completely different number. Finally tell them to fuck off before I hang up. I've had a couple call me back and threaten to kill me. Fun times.

RE: Health and Wealth and GrownUp Stuff
@auspice If you've never tried it, ask your doctor about phentermine. It's an old drug, non-addictive, and relatively cheap.

High cholesterol, tho I'm imagining anyone even remotely overweight is in that camp.
Actually, no. Totally possible to have great cholesterol and be overweight so don't think you need to lose weight to get it down.

One word: Triss.
For whatever reason, Witcher 3 didn’t let me romance her. And in the end I’m glad, because Triss was a whiny do-gooder, and I’m always too nice in all the games I play. The way I played, tho, Yennifer was a complex and interesting woman.
You had to make two choices in order to cement the romance. So as not to spoil, I"ll just say that being a gentleman in the first situation was not the right choice.
