@tempest Keep in mind it's 1964. There's no tolerance for gays. In fact, the word's not really in use yet. Homosexuals are considered deviant by most of the government, the country, and the world. There are 2 'alternative' clubs built on the grid. One's a dive where you can find drag queens that gets raided periodically and ICly has to move locations. The other is a high class place that caters to the outcasts of society: gays, lesbians, mutants, blacks, etc. Both are guarded by mob enforcers who pay off the cops. Stonewall hasn't happened yet; in fact, it doesn't exist yet. It's still a restaurant, not a bar. So basically, you're not going to see it in public.
As for gender swaps, they can be particularly interesting because of the same reasoning. Like gays, blacks, mutants and other minorities, women are still second class citizens. Women with power are very rare. (By power I include things like being a CEO, a police detective, etc.) If they happen at all, they're going to be the subject of prejudice and/or resentment. We make sure this is noted during the app process and is usually a flaw or mentioned in the BG. A female Cap would be problematic since women combatants were not a thing in WWII and would certainly not be the subject of super soldier experiments. If possible at all, there would need to be a lot of consultation with staff on how that would work.
@Ganymede Here's the timeline. It's not definitive. http://www.marvel-1963.com/timeline
Let's see if I can summarize the highlights... It's 1964. The Asgardians recently 'came out', letting the world know they exist and not only claiming to be 'gods' but the ones from thousands of years ago.
Not long after that, the world learned aliens really exist when JFK was assassinated. By Loki. Except it turned out to be a Skrull taking his shape. Why? Because Kennedy was a long term Kree agent. Skrulls also tried taking over SHIELD by replacing agents but were stopped. The Kree are currently making life miserable for the Inhumans (who are still not out).
At this hour, that's what I can think of off the top of my head. I'll let @ixokai add more.
@prototart After googling, it looks like Wildtimes are DC characters reimagined into different time periods. Since the game is set in 1964, that's already a given. If you mean a DC character from the Wild West somehow transported to 1964, possibly. Logging onto the game and asking there is the best way of doing it since there will be questions.
@kanye-qwest We've got them already. it's a non-issue.
@ghost That's a concern about every character on a game regardless of whether it's and FC, OC, gender/sexuality swapped or anything else.
That kind of player is going to turn anything into that kind of character.

Re: gender-swapping, of interest it has only ever to my remembrance been used to flip M2F.
Actually, someone apped Wolfsbane (Rahne) as a male and played him for a bit. As for why gender swapping, why play an Alt U version of a character? Because it's a different take on it that can be interesting. It's all about what you do with it and how you play it.

IF you play Shadowcat you are playing a Jewish girl who likes to dance, is good with computers, and is handy in a fight. She is a Mutant; she phases through walls. She will almost certainly be associated with the X-Men in some manner or possibly Excalibur though she is unlikely to ignore either group even if she winds up further afield, in SHIELD or the Avengers or tending bar in Chicago or something. That is the broad parameter of "intent" I mean when I talk about checking for intent when you app an FC. It's a big landing strip with a lot of places to touch down, but you should still shoot for it rather than parachuting out into the avocado jungle.
That's pretty much what we mean when we say 'the character needs to be recognizable'. Though with one difference: we don't care about gender. In most cases, it's not integral to the character and can easily be changed.
And if Wolverine and Hercules can get it on in canon, it's time to just stop worrying about whether an FC has been 'turned gay'. Just consider it an Alt U version and get over it. It's not like there's a ton of gay, lesbian, trans, etc FCs to choose from to begin with.
@Tempest If I recall right, @paris accused @Cupcake of stalking as well as lots of other things up to and including the assassination of JFK. After being told he was wrong on at least several issues, he just handwaved it all away and kept on going. Take it as you will.
It goes without saying that one of the few things worse than staffing on a Mu* is staffing on an internet message board.
FYI, yes. We're down. Don't know why. @ixokai will fix it once he wakes up.

Why haven't @ghost and @The-Tree-of-Woe delivered our X-Men only MU yet?
No, not X-Men. Sort of. A Gifted MU. At least the general theme of it, if not set in that exact world (given we know so little).
@Tempest Fair. Though the year is 1964 so if it's the Hippie scene you dislike, it's not really begun yet in any force. Nor has the Vietnam War started yet per se (not counting all those advisors and shit over there). Honestly, had I chosen a year, 1963 is right in the middle of the interesting periods so it's barely noticeable in many ways. It's more what you bring to it (though isn't everything).
@tempest I keep telling you, come play on M:63. We have no anime or other non comic book characters.
@Auspice I don't know about where you are but there are used bicycle shops near me where I can find a nice one for $100-$125. Also, Craigslist. If you get a folding one, you can easily get it on the bus.
@WTFE Alas, I found my hot pot a bit bland. The spicy side was spicy but not to any real degree of after burn. And while it was good, it definitely needed salt and some more seasoning. The place was /packed/ with people though and mostly various Asians (unsurprising since it was in Chinatown) so it must be a good example of the cuisine.
I just do my own threatening as a rule. But once or twice when I've sent an 'official' correspondence, I've cced blah blah, Esq, Atty.
