Dead Celebrities: 2017 Edition
Absolutely NO ONE so far. We're off to a great start.

RE: Dead Celebrity Thread
We should start a new one for 2017 and retired this permanently. In fact, retire it, burn it and scatter the ashes.

That being said, if you introduce a conflict that you don't plan on actually using you're an idiot. Here I side with @GangOfDolls. If you're putting in an element in a setting that is off-putting to some of your target audience and then saying "but don't worry, you won't have to ever deal with it" at this point you're selecting something that's going to turn off prospective players for no story gain. You might as well take it out entirely. If, however, you're going to use that source of conflict to generate stories in your setting, by all means leave it in. Just know that you will offend/squick/bore-to-tears some subset of your target audience.
However, that's not the case on the Shadowhunter game. What that post said is that the theme of the world, as set forth in the books which is what is being followed (or it's not really a Shadowhunter game) is that the Clave - the NPC patriarchy - is old fashioned, rigid, and generally prejudiced against anyone and anything that is not them.
The PCs, who are generally speaking the younger generation, can make their own decision as to what to believe. And indeed, it is completely in theme for them to be rebelling against that viewpoint. In fact, I just watched the episode where the main character said outright that the younger generation have a different viewpoint about Downworlders and in the first couple, one of them said the younger generation wouldn't care much if a Shadowhunter was gay.
It's part of the background color of the universe, much like... those super powerful vampires in OWoD who are sleeping and going to kill everyone as soon as they wake up (the name of which I can't recall) are. Hey, they'll never show up. It's a meaningless threat. So why include it? Because it's part of the world and gives people something to react against.

@Catsmeow That was pretty much how I read it.
Pretty much my interpretation too. Marvel: 1963 has a similar policy and explanation. It's 1963. Homosexuals are morally corrupt perverts. Colored people and women are inferior. Minorities, as a whole, are inferior. It's still very much a man's world. A white, straight, man's world. Not everyone thinks that way and it's improving but it's there. That being said, keep it IC and understand that when and if it comes up in conversation OOCly, be careful about how they're discussed as they're very sensitive subjects.

RE: Shadowhunters MUSH
I'm playing a gay Shadowhunter. And I'm perfectly fine with getting flak for it ICly by other Shadowhunters. Maybe less so from the younger PCs (that was mentioned in the show) but definitely from the Clave which is, basically, old fashioned patriarchy. Raziel went out of his way to make sure I knew it was not accepted ICly and that I would be okay with that.
@Auspice I even mentioned that to Raziel, that Cade would be willing to marry some lesbian and they'd both do their duty to keep the bloodlines going. Though with a tradition of arranged marriages, any woman would work and they could both have a guy on the side.
And I am uncomfortable with the contradictory messages of inclusiveness OOG but not IG. I think that you can have a very fine supernatural game full of conflict and high drama and plenty of actions without this needing to be a facet of these things.
it's the theme of the universe. I understand not wanting to go against theme and, in fact, agree with not doing so. It waters down the feel of the universe when you start changing things, even to make it more politically correct.
Edited to add: And he's not at all closeted. It's a family scandal that, I assume, most Shadowhunters know about given their small number and close connections.

RE: Shadowhunters MUSH
At least for me, the show is available On Demand till the end of the year. I've seen 7 episodes so far and am hardly an expert on the theme. Staff are happy to help though from my experience.
I just had to get on another urban fantasy game. It's been too long.

Report: Debbie Reynolds rushed to hospital for possible stroke.
OH FOR FUCK'S SAKE.
Yeah, I literally just heard that on the news. We can't lose both of them at the same time.

RE: Shadowhunters MUSH
Oh, yay. The show is on On Demand. I have till the end of the month to watch season 1.

They're on the restricted list. I do love me some urban fantasy. I have to read the first book quick to see if it's of interest.
The restriction is on couples who are parabatai. My understanding is that parabatai ate forbidden from entering romantic relationships with one another, despite the close "love" bond that they form.
Ah, okay. Like I mentioned, no idea about the theme. Just happened to notice that word on the restricted list. About 1/3rd of the way done with the first book and it's not bad. Still waiting to encounter any Downsiders to see what they're like.

Apping here, however I do kind of wish I had a buddy to parabatai with because that would rock socks.

RE: RL Anger
@Cupcake I concur. Sharing a set of parents? Big deal. I don't speak to my brother either as he's a rabid, far right asshole. He's toxic and I don't need that kind of person in my life.

RE: Dead Celebrity Thread
@Derp Why? Better she should die quickly than hold on for no reason. There were reports she was on a ventilator which leads me to believe she never regained consciousness. Which leads me to believe, perhaps pessimistically, that she's only alive because of machines and they don't want to switch them off during the holiday.
I hope she recovers. But I've already added her to 2016's hit list regardless of what the calendar says.

RE: Glitch
The How To Advertise thread seems to be broken? Keeps giving me an internal error.
