@Cupcake Does that mean it was awful?

RE: RL Anger
@hedgehog Yeah, my sister in law came from an orthodox family so they had multiple sets. She's eased up over the years but still keeps kosher. My parents never did but things like that are handed down, often unintentionally. It never once occurred to me to use a loaf pan for meatloaf because my mom never did. She might not have because her mom never did. Etc, going back to whoever it was who did keep kosher and just patted her meatloaf into shape instead of having a second loaf pan.
I'll have to try this loaf pan thing.

RE: RL Anger
I have two thoughts. Some things are regional. It might not be a NY thing for some reason. But it also occurred to me that it might be a Jewish thing. Not that my family ever kept kosher but if you once put meat in a loaf pan, you can never use it again for anything that uses dairy. Butter is dairy.
You can have 2 of course but it can just be patted into shape instead.

RE: RL Anger
@Catsmeow I have never made meatloaf in a loaf pan. My mother never made meatloaf in a loaf pan. This is a strange concept and I'm wondering if it's specific to some area of the country that is not NY.

The thing that struck me reading this is somone like Darth Vader whose primary character trait is to dominate every scene he's in.
Personally, I'm very dubious about Vader being a PC. I don't think he can be made using the same rules we've set up for character creation and still be Vader. It might be best to put him alongside Yoda and the Emperor.
But, activity requirements?
We'd probably be using the same activity requires we have on Marvel: 1963. 1 log a month minimum BUT don't think the bare minimum will be enough on a regular basis. It's not onerous.
I'd advocate for the position that most grizzled rebellious Corellians pretty much see Luke as a naive inexperienced hillbilly who got lucky. With the setting you've selected its really just our ooc bias that wants to put them on a pedestal.
Most of their super heroics have not occurred.
That is pretty much exactly correct and is how they're being played.

RE: surreality's playlist
Take what time you need but I do hope you return. Not just to here but to the hobby. You're one of the better ones out there and if all the good ones disappear, we'll just be left with the bad. And @coin. Don't do that to us.
Be well.

I really enjoyed the soundtrack; its flavor of bittersweet nostalgia just worked for me.
I enjoyed the songs, but I'm very aware the people singing them were cast for things other than their ability to sing awesomely. Gosling in particular. Emma Stone was fine.
Gods yes. Russell Crowe RUINED Les Mis.

RE: Star Wars: Insurgency
Gods no. Nothing that requires knowing what 'station' you are in. Nothing that needs a map to determine position in space or movement. Nothing that even vaguely approaches being a simulation. Roll the dice and be done with it.
edited to add: Thanks @Kairos for all the suggestions but I personally don't want any war game aspects. Simpler is better IMO.

RE: Star Wars: Insurgency
Oh, for the record, I'm Jalapeno. It's also policy for all staff alts to be public knowledge and the alt code automatically lists their alts on all the +finger infos.

RE: Coming Soon: Arx, After the Reckoning
Honestly, I'm having the same problem this time that I did my first attempt. +journal, +crisis, +this, +that, +(every fucking thing on the planet). I don't want to play a Mud.
But this time I'm pretty much resolving to ignore all the mechanics and just RP.

RE: Star Wars: Insurgency
@GentlemanJack Yoda and the Emperor are banned as characters though they may be trotted out once in a while as NPCs. Or what we will probably end up calling 'Architects', meaning that they're there to build plots and events (cimilar to M63's +villains roster). Obi-Wan's ghost will be included in this category. We haven't thought about the other two yet but will possibly add to the list as we get to them.

Maybe it could work. But another thing that made Star Wars cool was space, space fights, ships flying around. With everyone on a single planet I don't know if you will still allow that.
There will be other star systems PCs get to go to. There will be space chases and characters do have ships. There will be plots and events. But there (most likely) won't be other planets built to act as centers of RP in the same way Corellia will be.

RE: Star Wars: Insurgency
@Arkandel Exactly what @Tempest said. We're pretty much keeping all of canon BUT we are tweaking it to make playing your characters of choice easier. Let's face it, lots of people who app on SW games want to play Force Users. This lets them.

RE: Star Wars: Insurgency
Why are they on Corellia? See prior posts about needing financers, supporters, and quietly getting the planet on the side of the Rebellion. This is taking place pre-Empire. Leia is not the leader of the Rebellion yet and Luke is just a half trained Jedi (if that) who pulled the trigger on the Death Star.
As for activity, we also staff Marvel: 1963. We have a strict activity policy and we /have/ applied it to staff alts. The same will go for this game. Luke is being played by Caper who is @tangent here. He also plays Cap and some others on M:63. He is not an attention whore as I think every single player there will attest to.
I get it. SW games have a bad rep, especially ones with FCs. Been there, done that, gotten fucked not in a good way. We're not going to repeat all their mistakes. We might make brand new ones but we do learn from history.

The Mary Tyler Moore show is still one of my favorite go-to old sitcoms to watch when I want to unwind. Great lady, pioneering career.
Yeah, that was such a wonderful show. She was such a great actress.

There's no equalizing the playing field for Luke Skywalker vs. your 'OC X-Wing pilot' because they will never be the same thing, not even by your own description of them.
There's a certain validity to this. Luke is the one who pulled the trigger and blew up the Death Star. There's never going to be someone else who did that. He'll always have that under his belt. And Leia will always be Leia, Han will be Han, etc. No escaping that.
Superman will always be Superman. And while the analogy to the supers genre isn't exact, @Auspice , there's a huge difference between the popular superhero FCs like Captain America and, say, Moonknight. I've personally never had any desire to play any of them. Maybe Han. But I think turning him gay wouldn't work well.
All I can say is that FC or not, famous established background or not, once a PC hits the grid, they will have the same opportunities to be involved and make a difference.
@Ghost Fair. I played on a Star Wars game where staff had every single FC doing Great Things and all the rest of us were spear carriers whose sole purpose was to be there in the background and 'oo' and 'ah' at how wonderful they were. I'll be damned if my own OC is going to do that and I don't think the other staffers without FCs will either. We look forward to Insurgency being 1 out of 72.
I personally invite all skeptics to come give us a chance and flame us here if we end up being one of the 72. But. If you think it's happening, please let us know and give us the chance to correct things. Different perspectives, forest for the trees, etc.
Caveat: this is alpha. The game went up ONLY 3 weeks ago. @ixokai is an amazing coder and the builders were truly inspired. We're moving remarkably fast but we're still changing things as we discover they're not working (notably in the mechanics of the Force). On the other hand, it's the perfect time to get in on the ground floor and help influence what's happening. Sheets are not final since we're tweaking things and RP before approval is doable so you can flesh out your PCs once you have the basics set.

RE: Star Wars: Insurgency
@Ghost said in Star Wars: Insurgency:
The answer:
FCs come prepackaged with guaranteed roleplay opportunities and "main character" time in plots. FCs are automatically roped into game metaplot, whereas OCs need to find their own roleplay and means to being roped into (and more importantly, relevance in) metaplotThis would be wrong. Why FCs? Because some people want to play Luke or Leia or Han. Some people want to play Superman or Spiderman or Thor. I never have. That doesn't make those who do want to wrong.
Plots focused on the Rebellion will be for Rebel PCs, not Rebel FCs and others. If someone apps an OC X-Wing pilot who survived the assault on the Death Star alongside Luke, then that is what he shall be and that is what game 'history' shall be. The OC will have just as many opportunities as Luke to get involved. All OCs will.
Now, you can believe that or not. We're going to do our best to make sure that's the case. If you don't believe that, I'm not going to argue. Don't come play. Please, don't come play. But don't call us liars either. Go make a thread in the Hog Pit to do that but at least wait till you have evidence. Don't be Trump.

RE: Star Wars: Insurgency
Speaking only for myself, I was expecting critique when I suggested a couple weeks ago that we post an ad here even before we were ready to give out the address. Players here have a larger combined history of game play than many RPG companies and a Star Wars Fate game is not something that's been made into a Mu* before to my knowledge. In fact, while someone did take the Star Wars setting and 'Fate-ized' it,we felt it didn't really handle the Force sufficiently so we're making up the mechanics ourselves. So other perspective can be useful, though not necessarily agreed with.
Re: Fate. I agree. But some people love it for some reason.
Re: FCs. I agree. But some people love them. We'll try to make sure everyone are the stars and not just the canon characters.
Re: Rebels Run. I think this is a good point. To me, and I do intend on bringing it up just to verify my assumptions, I always thought of the Rebel presence on Corellia as more of an administrative/recruiting center. Dangerous, yes but the Rebellion is very much in the early David vs Goliath stages and they need backers and funding. There are no squadrons of X-Wings being launched from Crescent City. There are instead seemingly unaligned freighters and transports taking the rebels on and off planet. So 'Rebel Base' does not mean something like what was seen on Hoth in Empire. That is elsewhere.
Edited to add: From news theme:
Our story takes place primarily on the planet of Corellia during the height of the Rebellion. The Alliance has sent a platoon of spies to the strategic core world in hopes of inciting a revolt against Imperial rule.
