      I love to hate Buddy. Though hate isn't really accurate. Want to get away from as quickly as possible is closer.

      It would eliminate the need for Medicaid, Food Stamps and other subsistence level aid programs. That alone with save a ton of money.

      Being a dirty socialist (in the European model), I'm in favor of the idea as well as universal health care and free university.

      @Ninjakitten +111. Well said.

      A long while ago, I was interested in learning more about trans issues. I might be a white guy but as a gay one, I was starting out definitely on their 'side' (their side being equality and the freedom to be who they were without being murdered).

      I forget where it was I was reading, some board somewhere I'm thinking that I remember having rules about being a safe space. But I read various threads and one day I decided to ask some questions. And i was basically given links and told to read up on it. Someone also commented about getting tired of being an ambassador. There was more than that but this was the gist of it.

      If I remember right (it was a while ago), my reaction was not 'ok sure, I'll get right on it'. It was more 'Hey, I'm trying to be on your side here. Give me a break and stop with the tone.' In other words, educate me and be nice about it or I'm not going to bother. So I may have been coming from a place of being marginalized in some ways but I was also feeling very entitled in others while still being completely sympathetic to their cause and issues. It's also where I first saw the link to Derailing For Dummies.

      So I get both sides of this. I've been on both sides. And it takes a while for to really understand what Ninjakitten explained so well. It's a shame that didn't happen in the very start of this whole thing but it only really makes sense and hits home after the fact.

      But we're bickering about whether the shift in language is even the right call. It seems silly.

      Which is one of the common tactics used to, you know, DERAIL the issue.

      It's worth posting this again even though I did so only a few pages ago. It's worth reading. Really.

      I love that the last two posts mention pairs of lesbian girlfriends in a totally offhand manner as if it's no big deal.

      This will totally be the last production I do with this company. What a hot mess.

      I hope you intend to let them know exactly how fucked up they are once the performance is over and why you'd rather have spikes shoved into your eyes than work with him again.

      I suppose that might get around to other companies? But hell, this is opera. They're used to divas so it shouldn't reflect poorly on you, especially if this guy has a bad rep already.

      The average human body contains...what, 5 pints of blood? Each pint of blood is a single blood point. Take 1/5th of someones blood and you just fucked them up

      Actually, it's 10 pints or so. When you give blood, they take a pint and there's little effect from it.

      What? I don't remember this happening in Dragon Age.

      It did.

      @Ganymede said:

      Unlike in the Victorian Age, it's okay now for a woman to transgender to a man, but not the other way around.

      At least, that theory would explain what's going on.

      For the same reason lesbians are more tolerable than gay men. It's understandable that a woman would want to act like a man (and have sex with a woman) but wanting to act like a woman? LIkewise, being a top is better than being a bottom. Women get penetrated, not men.

    • RE: Storytelling Advice

      Speaking for myself, I love losing. There's some saying somewhere about how it's not your successes that build character but what you fail at. Even more fun than losing is a Pyrrhic victory. Sure, you won. Congrats. But look at the cost.

      But win, lose or somewhere in between it needs to not have been predetermined to be fun. Are there are scenes in a larger, longer plot where the bad guy needs to get away? Maybe? But if the players are kicking ass (and I don't mean because they're only just posing that way in a diceless system but being clever and doing things 'right' beyond punching minions) let him be captured. Maybe his 2nd in command continues the Plan instead. Maybe he planned for his capture and needed it to happen. Maybe it was a double and the real one was off doing something while you wasted time on the diversion. Even of the GM hadn't planned any of the above, incorporate things like that.

      Caveat: easier said than done and it's one reason I absolutely SUCK at running things.

      Read the blurb.

      So it's Vampire: the Beastening. You're this monster that feeds on humans and have to balance between too much or too little.

      Mage, Demon, Changeling even Werewolf all had their own 'thing'. This sounds like it could be a Nosferatu bloodline, perhaps minus the politics.

      Edited to add: That doesn't make it a bad game. But as someone who hasn't paid the least bit of attention to Beast since it was first announced, that's the impression I get from reading it.

      If they even hint at firing you, just point out that you were harassed based on your religion and sexual identity. It doesn't matter whether she was right, only that she was doing it. Depending on what state you live in, the latter might not be against the law but the former certainly is. And firing you because of it gives you huge grounds for a lawsuit.

      Other people's mistakes.

      I was on Ebay looking for sheet sets and saw a brand new 600 thread count, 100% cotton, sateen sheet set. For $17. Naturally, I clicked on it to see more. Also naturally, I wondered what was wrong with it. According to what I read, not a thing. Ok, let's gamble. I have buyer protection.

      They came today and they're so very, very nice. I immediately go back to order another set. Or three. To discover they've been repriced to $60. Oops.

      RL things I hate: other people correcting their mistakes before I can benefit from it a second or third time.
