RE: General Video Game Thread
@ominous said in General Video Game Thread:
I can't get into MMOS, because I played the best MMO ever made, Asheron's Call, back when it was released in '98. Until other MMOs manage to have a continual updating story with monthly updates that make alterations to quest lines, geography of the world, etc, they're stuck in the pre-AC days of EQ, which is simply a glorified fantasy theme park.
Much belated but... Guild Wars 2 does pretty much all of that. They have a 'living story' that drops new content every 1-2 months, on top of the expansions that have come out (the third major expansion is nearing release). Major updates to the story HAVE altered the game world, fairly significantly in places. Oh, its also FTP through the main game. The base game that I paid over $100 (cause I pre-ordered the extra special version) for? You can play all the way through without paying a dime. Also no subscription. If you like the game, you can buy the expansions. Each one adds entire new worlds, multiple maps, new story, new quests, new classes or elite specs. And the in-game RL money store is strictly cosmetic, so no pay to win.

I do admit to liking the leather scent, though. But, I mean, new leather smell. So like... Leather + Sage/Vetiver? Fuck yeah, I'm down.
Hi. I see you've been into some of my mixes.

I would buy some soap!
Masculine scents come in one of three varieties:
Variety 1: "Here is this strange blend of chemicals with no discernable scent which may not be even appropriate for anything ever" ala Axe. Ladies. You all know the joys of Axe. Dudes -- easy on the Axe.
Variety 2: 'wtf dude did you just like go hump an evergreen or something'? Why do people think men need to smell like pine needles and sawdust? Why has this variety of scent not changed since our grandpa's grandpa's grandpa was probably out literally humping a pine tree or whatever?
Variety 3: Musk. Just. Fucking musk. WHO decided that this gland-juice is something we should proudly wear? It's like the dog that goes and rolls around in animal crap like warpaint and then just looks so damn pleased with himself... not... that... my dog does that. NO. You can't prove it. Shut up.
Anyway. Something with a better blend of scents that doesn't cost as much as a mercedes would be great.
I would like to add Sandalwood to this. Somehow, in some way, sandalwood became synonymous with masculine. Its a nice enough scent but hooooooooooooooly fuck a very little goes a looooooooong fucking way. Please do not bathe in sandalwood.
Also, wtf is up with scents like 'Sea Spray'? They smell like NOTHING. Know why? Because the ocean STINKS. Don't smell like the ocean.
I do admit to liking the leather scent, though. But, I mean, new leather smell. So like... Leather + Sage/Vetiver? Fuck yeah, I'm down.

@il-volpe I ask to 'drop the garden' when I don't want the full compliment of veggies on something. Maybe I'm just old, but that's been food service lingo for as long as I can remember.

@tributary I will be forever grateful that neither of my children showed any interest in disabling locks. Both of them, however, had a disturbing tendency to WANDER. I had to keep an eye on them at all times in public, and my youngest's godfather actually lost him in an airport once when he was like.. 10. Found him in the bar around the corner and down the hall, sitting at the bar, eating a cheeseburger, drinking milk, and watching Spongebob.

@carma Only 363 days til next Halloween and HOCUS POCUS 2! (Actually I'm pretty sure it will come out prior to Halloween but still!)

RE: Movie / TV / Streaming Peeves or Whatever
Why cruel? They've started filming!

RE: Movie / TV / Streaming Peeves or Whatever
@arkandel Hocus Pocus 2 is confirmed with a return of Bette Middler, Kathy Najimy, and Sarah Jessica Parker?
-
RE: Health and Wealth and GrownUp Stuff
@arkandel YES. Exactly. On the one hand, you feel affronted that anyone thinks you could be 'that person'. But on the other.. man.. yeah, I would absolutely want someone to report something that looked or felt wrong. Because you never when it IS the abusive caregiver, and predators like that thrive on us questioning ourselves and not wanting to 'make waves'.
So yeah. It sucked. But we got a few extra resources we could use, my son got a backpack full of awesome coloring books and a nice windbreaker, and CPS was very understanding about what happened.
Side note: It still took another couple months for maintenance to get around to fixing my son's door.
-
RE: Health and Wealth and GrownUp Stuff
@derp Yup.
Really, I couldn't even be mad at the neighbor. Had it been a situation of abuse or neglect, I would have wanted the neighbor to call that in, and they had no context to use other than what they could see. So I get it. It still sucked at the time, though.
-
RE: Health and Wealth and GrownUp Stuff
@l-b-heuschkel You are not incorrect. CPS came to visit me once when my youngest was maybe 3-4? A neighbor had seen him in his room crying, the door closed, and assumed that I had just... locked him in there. In reality, his door had a tendency to stick before latching, but he was a fan of closing his door when he was playing in his room. So he closed himself in, then started crying when he couldn't get out. I finished doing the dishes before going to 'free him' because silly me, I assumed 5-10 minutes more of him being in his room wouldn't kill him.

RE: Critters!
@silverfox Legit this made me smile. And its been... a shitty past few weeks. So thank you.

RE: The ADD/ADHD Thread (cont'd from Peeves)
@groth Yeah, my youngest has a host of issues, and fine motor control is one that plagues him even today. Thank God fashion caught up and there are a TON more options for laceless shoes now (tech was already a thing for him, thankfully). Like, for awhile he struggled because the only real 'sneakers' available were those velcro sneakers that tend to cause kids to tease unmercifully. But things have gotten a lot better and now he has slip on sneakers and I replaced the laces on his winter boots with stretchy no-tie laces. So he can just step in and out of them.

RE: The ADD/ADHD Thread (cont'd from Peeves)
@boneghazi Just as a thought, if you can, you may want to see if his issues with writing and shoelace-tying are fully a focus thing. My youngest still won't get 'lace up' shoes because he has fine motor control issues as part of his suite of diagnoses. When he was younger he would patently refuse to write by hand, and even today his handwriting is considered 'childish'. One of his accommodations is that any sort of essay or writing assignment can by done via computer. He's gotten better about writing by hand (he actually writes short stories these days), but we had to let him do it at his own pace. Obviously, using a computer is not always a possibility, but there are other accommodations that can be made as well.
And as a heads up, my son's 'vibe' was Disney. Still is! He knows more about Disney than any other person I know, including people that work for the company. He's started to branch out from just Disney in the past year or two, but Disney ruled his life from age 6 to 16.
