@ganymede I would agree, but they are doing much, MUCH more than simply 'making fun of' people.

RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
@greenflashlight I can simplify it right now. Its because the people that have come up with the buzzwords like 'gay agenda' or 'feminazi' have zero concept of actual equality. All they can imagine is the current power structure being inverted. So yes, they absolutely are afraid of straight people being treated like they've been treating the LGBTQIA+ community, because they cannot actually process any other way of existence. It's the same reasoning behind why equality between the sexes gets screamed over so much. They hear 'we want equal rights' and all they can grasp is 'we want to do to you what you have been doing to us'.

RE: New World
@testament Soooooooooo, this isn't necessarily Amazon's fault. There were a few graphically high end games that were bricking the 3080/3090's. One of my favorite streamers was down for two weeks because he started playing a new game and it absolutely bricked his PC. He RMA'd it, but he's been hesitant to try again since EVGA still hasn't really accepted responsibility for having done something with the cards that caused them to brick in the first place. So he's unsure if the replacement card he got is going to have the same issue.

RE: New World
@arkandel So there seems to be open world style raids in the form of the 'red skull' events, but those also tend to have a level attached to them. Crafting is definitely a bit part of it, I still get most of my equipment from either leveling or crafting. Exploration is also a large part of it. I fell down a rabbit hole of quests that kept leading me farther and farther away from my starting point.
And @Solstice isn't wrong in that the jump/dodge mechanic is pretty bad.

Yes, really. That site is lying. Literally no one named after 1990 is named Bianca. In 1989, a mutation occurred in every human's genes that deactivates the region of a person's brain that allows them to think of that name as a potential name for their child or themselves. That mutation has bred true 100% of the time ever since, so we may safely conclude no future generations shall have people named Bianca, either.
This is the Mildly Constructive section. If you're going to be sarcastic and trollish, take it to the Hog Pit.

@ominous Oh yeah, you won't know until you're already in the area and likely facing an enemy that's obscenely strong.

RE: General Video Game Thread
@greenflashlight said in General Video Game Thread:
The latest update to a game I'm playing has caused no fewer than three critical bugs, i.e., bugs that prevent progress in the game. I hate that by having bought this game, I have effectively paid the company for the privilege of being their QA staff.
This is why I should know better than to buy games until they've been out for at least a year.
I hate that this has become the NORM. I've been having this issue with a different game I play as well. But when I mentioned on the game's Discord that I didn't appreciate paying full price for a supposed 'completed game (ie. not an Early Access) only to have it riddled with so many bugs as to seem to still be in BETA... the community started screeching about how this was just how things are and that I should have more patience. The simple fact that entire generations are being conditioned to accept paying full price for incomplete games is ridiculous.

I've been enjoying it, though the lack of warning that you're entering an area FAR above your level is a bit aggravating.

RE: Weird or unrealistic gaming... stuff
@arkandel I get what you're saying, but in a world where coming back from death is a possibility, people would presumably understand that their loved one coming back would be dependent on the loved one wanting to return. So that threat holds little water given that offering to pay for resurrection will only matter if the dead person wants to come back and accept the limitations that would be levied on them for coming back.
-
RE: Weird or unrealistic gaming... stuff
@derp iirc that actually depends on the spell. And yes, the edition. Because I think Resurrection and Reincarnation are the only two 'come back from the dead' spells in 3.5 and earlier editions. But I know 5e has Revivify, but I don't think that one comes with a caveat of choice. Admittedly, I know next to nothing of 4e.
Edit Also, I can't think that a random NPC from a town is going to understand that if they choose to come back they are going to be 'set back' in the manner they would be. So it would be a choice borne of ignorance, uninformed. Which isn't really a choice, since you aren't going into it knowing the consequences.
-
RE: Weird or unrealistic gaming... stuff
@arkandel Well, the NPC in question isn't getting the choice. They were killed. The choice is being made for them without their input. Unless the noble is also paying for a cleric to Speak with Dead to determine if the NPC even wants to come back.
-
RE: Weird or unrealistic gaming... stuff
@arkandel Yes crime! Resurrection causes a loss of 1 character level. To an NPC that's like going from a journeyman to an apprentice! That's their livelihood!

RE: Weird or unrealistic gaming... stuff
@arkandel In one of the last campaigns I did for D&D, we had a drow in the party that taught everyone the Drow Hand Language. Like, we legit spent skill dots on it so we could have a nonverbal communication. We had a group chat that the DM was not in and used that as a means to convey quick nonverbal signals to one another.

@arkandel I use Dick, Jane, and Spot!

Hit Points.
So, tongue in cheek for a moment. Dimension20 addresses this, in-character. As in, its a high school for adventurers, so the kids 'level up' and get higher hit points, harder to kill, etc. But one of the characters has a father figure that's truly just one of the random NPC's. He's like... a level 3 diplomat. 10 hit points. In season 2 the kids leave their usual 'realm' to go do a quest thing, save the world, etc. They can have three 'hirelings' with them. One of the ones chosen is this father figure. First fight? Dude dies in one hit, first round. Full on dead. He gets revivified. Second fight. Dude dies again, one hit. 10 hit points, y'know? And these kids are like 7th level whatevers. So the stuff they routinely go up against is dealing like 13+ hit points of damage in a single shot. So they revivify him again. Same fight? Dead in one hit. Revivify at end of fight.
Cue confused conversation between daughter and father figure as to his apparent inability to handle a fight. And his freaking the fuck out and yelling at her that he's JUST A GUY. He's a normal, average person. That not everyone is as tough and resilient as she and her friends are. He never went to 'adventuring academy', he went to a SCHOOL.
Anyways, I really liked that idea. That adventurers are these kinda.. freaks of nature that somehow manage to get harder and harder to kill the more you throw at them, so society has just sort of evolved to put them in their own little place to learn their weirdo adventuring stuff, and go 'save the world' while the rest of the society just goes about its business.

RE: Weird or unrealistic gaming... stuff
The almost immediate jump to killing everything in one's path in order to complete a goal. Murderhobo'ing! Its not just accepted, its encouraged to kill everything because it looks different from you and lives under a different set of beliefs or worships a different God.

RE: Crafting Thread Part ?
@crawfish Oh don't you worry, if things keep progressing like I think they will, I will have a whole new round of commissions! I love having things made to commemorate important things that happen to my characters.

RE: Crafting Thread Part ?
@aria I mean, that tracks... God knows I haven't been able to stop myself from getting things made! XD

RE: Crafting Thread Part ?
@aria I remember that one! I just want to see Orichalcum done up in the suit with the oily black hair, looking like a sleeze. XD
-
RE: Crafting Thread Part ?
@crawfish Now they need an Orichalcum McMahon!
