@tyche ...most recent? Sure!
Go ahead and keep trying to have this argument with someone trained in fashion and costume design, it'll be cute.
Most people at my high school had trench coats. This is because -- like most other local regions of this place called 'earth' -- it sometimes rains here.
I never saw a teenager at my high school wearing a trench coat. Back then only adults wore trench coats, like teachers, businessmen, or P.I.s like Humphrey Bogart.
It didn't become a thing for high school teenagers until the late 90's.
There were a whole host of alternatives, ponchos, rain coats, parkas and a strange device we called an umbrella.
So don't even attempt an argument with someone with over a half century of first hand experience with rain and snow.
Let's put it this way, then:
Would an appropriate response to that statement from the student have been, "Oh, sorry, got my gross student crimes mixed up, I thought you were talking about raping an unconscious girl and posting video of it online, they were all prep jocks, right?"
I'm thinking no.
Keep your grossness to yourself, please. It's fucking disgusting and inappropriate as hell. People in this thread are talking about having lost personal friends -- who were wearing trench coats. Have some goddamned shred of human decency, for fuck's sake.
I have a hard time getting all worked up over the author's recollection of an exchange between a student and an administrator that occurred 19 years ago.
And it's quite likely they either misconstrued it or just made the whole thing up.
On the other hand, you go over-the-top crazy with a profanity laced emotional tirade.
ETA: I am not even going to engage with this further, actually. Ignore time; the only appropriate response to this level of sheer ignorance.
That is exactly what you should do if you can't handle yourself.

Wasn't the latest shooter wearing a trench coat?
Clearly, guns don't kill people, trench coats kill people. </sarcasm>
I got no issue with schools implementing dress codes. Banning trench coats seems pretty obvious, not because of fashion sense, but because they can be used to conceal all sorts of implements of destruction. Machetes, bombs and yeah ...long guns.
Kate Spade, dude. Perky, lively, upbeat label and design ethos. Major depression, suicide. So if an actual fashion designer's fashion sense couldn't be predictive of behavior on this point...
(I'm going to assume you're genuinely ignorant and not trolling, because if you're trolling on this one, that's abhorrently fucking gross.)
It might be posited that comparing Kate Spade to a mass murdering school shooter might be considered ignorant and abhorrently gross.
I don't know the specific details, but rumor is she hanged herself with a perky red scarf.
Obviously there should be more legal restrictions on scarfs and ropes. /sarc
“If the shooters had been wearing Abercrombie & Fitch, this wouldn’t have happened,” the administrator replied.
Wasn't the latest shooter wearing a trench coat?
I would also imagine nihilistic individuals would gravitate towards music that reflects their mood.
That is I would be surprised to find Rick Astley on their play list.
This is the original DikuMud updated for newer systems. The functionality is the
same and maybe even the bugs. Hopefully I didn't introduce any new ones.
This release was compiled and tested on the following platforms:
Windows 10
Embarcadero C++ 7.30 for Win32
Microsoft Visual C/C++ v19.13.26131.1 for x86 (Visual C++ 2017 Community)
CYGWIN_NT-10.0 2.10.0 using gcc 7.3.0
Ubuntu 16.04 LTS
gcc version 5.4.0
Linux Mint 18.3
gcc version 5.4.0
OpenSuse 42.3
gcc version 4.8.5
For those of those who just want to play it, I've included a stand alone Windows executable.
After unzipping it, just find and click on the diku.exe file to run it.
You will have to allow it through the Windows firewall, and you may get a security warning
message from Windows Defender depending on your settings.
Then run your favorite mud client and connect to 'localhost port 4000'.
The first player created will become the level 24 game Wizard.
Players after that will be a playable normal character.
It's literally impossible to state all of those statistics are rooted entirely in nature when they also can't be removed from their cultures. Like, there are also lots of cultural reasons why men take more risks.
I would suggest those statistics are roughly the same in all cultures. If Sweden is your ideal model, you'll find they have the same accidental death rates and even a higher proportion of men in prison.
@misadventure said in RL Anger:
The good news is that culture is outside of direct evolution, and we can communicate across time and distance about more effective approaches to goals. It's like meta epigentics.
Is it though? I was thinking that culture is to a great extent a product of our nature. Anthropologist Donald Brown's Cultural Universals are good evidence of that. That is not to say nurture has no effect on our behavior. I don't believe we are really any different than the ancient Babylonians or Greeks. Sure we've got vastly more knowledge and communication, but we still have the same human nature.

@ganymede A hundred white men get convicted of a specific crime and its #NotAllMen.
One black man gets accused too and its #YesAllN*****rs.
93% of the prison population are men.
88% of Darwin award winners are men.
70% of accidental deaths are men.
90% of sexual assaults are committed by men.
Generally speaking we are prone to violence of all sorts and taking crazy risks.
This is not a cultural thing. It's nature.
Not a video game, but a board version of one of my favorites: Crusader Kings The Board Game
Got to have it.
I don't know whether this is useful to you or not: NodeBB New User Approval.
It would prevent those one-shot users from posting.
With a little tweaking you could move an approved user back into the unapproved group temporarily to make their posts require approval.
Vampire: The Masquerade, 5th edition - Luxury Rulebook
$672.99! Only 500 copies. What do you think the value will be in 10 years?

I know a lot of MUers who suffer from migraines. I've been keeping an eye on a medication moving through the FDA process for that and it got approved finally.
If anyone is interested in looking it up here's the website link:

The initial estimated cost is ~$6000 per year. On the bright side there are now 4 competing migraine drugs and it's expected the price for all will drop.
iHeart radio. Mostly because I stream radio shows I miss or can't get.
Origins Game Fair event registration. How can you screw this up 4 years in a row?
IMO, less moderation, more drinking.
Bitches, I'm not asking for syringes for fun. I need to take my motherfucking insulin. Give me the goddamn needles.
I hate this. It's easier to get meth or heroin around here than it is to get insulin (or needles for your pens). I should be able to get this stuff unregulated over the counter.
