I swear to god if ONE MORE PERSON in this industry tells me to “go make some moves then” when I express frustration over how nothing is happening, I’m going to lose it.
Learning "pods".
I know you need to go back to work. So do I. But when the state, county, and city say kids can't go to school because we're in the middle of a surge, why in the world would it be safe for me to "supervise" (babysit) your children during their Zoom classes? Not to mention the legal liability just waiting to swallow me whole. You aren't asking for a tutor, you're asking for a nanny and trying to shirk your duties as an employer by misclassifying me and all the other educators desperate for safe work.
Meanwhile, I can 100% do my job virtually with no real loss to your child. The difficulty schools faced last year had to do with time to prepare AND that they have 30+ kids in a dang class. You're one on one. This is not difficult.
I woke up to an email on my WORK EMAIL that I use with CHILDREN that was suggestive and sexual and culminated ina job offer(wtf) that was also followed up with a) an email to my personal email b) a whatsapp message c) 3 youtube comments and 4) several instagram comments, all suggestive. from the same dude
@wahoo I think the point is that everyone making TV has the same limitations. There's nothing special about this one. Except maybe that they only did half the shows most do. That's not an excuse.
They also had half the time. Production shut down in the middle of the shooting season so they weren’t given the back nine.
AND IT IS A GODDAMN MUSICAL. Other shows aren’t musicals.
Making TV is hard. Okay. If you say so.
Oh f you.
This conversation is no longer what is good tv and has gone so far off topic. I’m out.
@Ninjakitten thank you. Rough day.
Dude, Mary Steenburgen is a flipping Oscar winner.
I am telling you for a fact that these people are huge industry names. I work in this industry. There is no argument to be had here, it's not a debate.
I think you're just being obstinate & ragging on a show instead of bothering to understand what goes into making it and no amount of trying to explain the limitations of the industry is going to help.
This is more RL sads:
I lost my first foster kitten today

@wahoo So you're saying that quality shouldn't be based on what is accomplished, but on what is intended?
I am. You wanna put together a 45 minute musical in 7-10 days?
Is it okay if it sucks since he's not a producer/choreographer/actor/etc.?
I don't know how to answer this. Yes. That's how this business works. In order to get things made, you hire people who are known to the industry. Most of those people are not triple threats. No one is going to hire a nobody.
ETA: MOST people in Los Angeles aren't triple threats. TRUST.
Yes, that is an exaggeration, obviously. But there are quite a few. Are they well known? No. But then again the only person I recognized from the show (and admittedly I don't watch a lot of TV) is Lauren Graham and Skylar Astin. And even they aren't big names. Its FOX. Which is just a step up from WB. The could have and should have done better.
Also, their time limitations are their own fault. Maybe hire more than one choreographer if that is an issue. Again, you don't get a pass for crappy production when your job is to produce a good show.
All the criticisms aside, I just to remind that outside of the heartsongs, I really liked the show.
Woof, okay.

Ugh, this is so offensive and shitty-- time limitations are not their fault. That's how network television works. That's how ALL television works: it's fast. It moves really, really fast. You want 22 episodes of tv a year? It's fast.
Glad you like the show. Sure doesn't seem like it.
@Roz I agree, CXG did an amazing job of finding & using their cast --
BUT
CXG was also a CABLE show AND they had fewer episodes per season than normal broadcast (13-18 vs 22) ..and we're also comparing a single season to four, but cable vs broadcast is probably a more important apples to oranges sorta thing. Cable can get away with lesser knowns & new talent in a way broadcast can't (or won't).
I really like both of these shows. They're very different though!

@wahoo My issue wasn't with the quality of the dancing. Non-professional dancers who are actors portraying normal people shouldn't be expected to dance as if they were on Broadway (though it would be nice cause I love good dancing). My issue was the repetitive choreography itself. It's just bad. And I say this as an armchair quarterback who has watched SYTYCD for years.
Right, and I'm saying that my guess is that you're getting repeated moves because they're actors, not dancers.
AND because TV moves at an insane pace, trying to get actors (and GUEST actors) to learn new dances (and songs. and lines.) literally every week is .. insane.
Re: Zoey,
My guess is the choreography is meh because your main 'name' cast aren't actually dancers, they're actors who can ..kinda move. And kinda sing. But mostly not so much.
Personally, I'm totally fine with that. For me, it adds to the charm.
I'm a little salty about it but 100000% because I am a singer and look like Jane Levy and WHYYYYYY.
I still really like the show.

Peeve II: whateverthefuck algebra tiles are.
LOS ANGELES. IT'S RAINING. TURN YOUR DAMN HEADLIGHTS ON.
@Seamus I'm self-employed so I will be able to file for unemployment with this new bill BUT the state of CA has the worst fucking EDD website I've ever seen. I'll be printing & mailing an application today and hoping that the website magically fixes itself.
My day job easily transitions to work from home, but the tutoring students aren't coming because no one knows what's going on. And for some reason social media / my community has forgotten entirely about the people who provide your kids extra-curricular activities in the whole "support small businesses!" push.
Y'all, I'm a small business. But the amount of fucking ELBOW GREASE it takes me to get paid fairly is insane.

So unrelated.
My most horrible neighbors who live with SIX PEOPLE in a /two bedroom/ (but drive BMWs and buy their TODDLERS fucking Docle & Gabbana shirts and smoke in common areas and are just generally THE WORST) have, according to them, a burst pipe and please guess how very little I think the HoA should pay for their repairs.
Doesn't that depend on the terms of the HoA and the specific place the pipe burst? In the HoA I used to live in that maintained their own water well and sewage treatment, the HoA was responsible for the pipe up to the main valve(It was designed so house owners could close it with a utility key for winter to prevent the pipes freezing) for each individual property while the house owner was responsible for everything past that point.
Yes it does.
