    • RE: Wheel of Time MU(SH|X)

At least for the alpha period the intended audience is definitely going to be folks familiar with the series while the primer is meant for someone that at has an understanding of generic fantasy to get them pointed in the right direction so they could create some Lady or soldier and go from there knowing that elves, orcs and D&D style magic weren't a thing.

The wiki itself will definitely grow as things progress, especially once officially open and get people in so I know where the weak points are for play... and I also am not above bribing players with Luck/XP for wiki work.

I do not intend for the wiki to be another Wheel of Time encyclopedia though. In my opinion that is the wrong place to put effort where such good, easily searchable resources already exist and that time could instead be spent on the game itself.

Seriously, I did a random wheel of time question into google. "What type of hats do they wear in cairhien" and got several responses. I can't beat that, nor do I want to.

If I may offer another suggestion.. have some preconfigured kits/builds that people can choose from at chargen

I really like this idea. It might even be something that's done wiki-side rather than code-side, at least at first. A couple of experienced Saga players could create some generic "Republic soldier," "Republic pilot," "Mandalorian Rifleman," "Smuggler," and "Jedi Padawan" builds, and then the commands to create them in chargen could be listed on the wiki. Sure, it would be a slightly-long list, but it would allow players to create basic characters without digging into the books much. I would be -happy- to contribute to such a project.

I was literally just typing this out. Copy and paste the commands in, done.

For all the well warranted complaining about it my prediction is that it will go on to be Blizzards 2nd most profitable game after WoW. It's breaking into a new market (Asia) with micro transactions that will eventually dwarf what they could get for PC game sales.

    • RE: Which setting do you like better?

@skew said in Which setting do you like better?:

Who hasn't watched Anastasia like 7 times in 7 days and went 'that'd be an awesome setting for a MUSH'?! (I have a 4 y/o daughter okay)

I admittedly have never thought this when watching the movie (though i haven't done a 1/day marathan for a week). Does make me consider a re-watch to try and see what you saw for potential.

I would lean towards setting option 1 though. I'm not a fan of the FF games, but the magitech punkish theme is always good.

I'm wary of the term "prized and rare" from a game design perspective though. The old "everyone is a Jedi or no one is" conundrum.

Just lie and tell them you're allergic to bactrim so they stop giving it to you. It will limit the choices available to you in the future as they'll probably avoid the whole family of drugs, but at it will force them to give you something different.

    • RE: MU Pacing

I vastly prefer the slow burn... but at the same time my time to actually scene with people is very limited. It's hard to do a slow-burn friendship that can result in anything meaningful when you can only manage a couple of scenes together a month. Sometimes for other Plot reasons, things have to be rushed

    • RE: General Video Game Thread

I think it depends on the type of game and what those hours of game play involve. If it's 12-16 hours of Story? Sure.

If it's 12-16 hours of running around in an open world OMG why isn't there fast travel... less so.

Personally I wouldn't consider 30 hours to be a short game. 12-16 would be.. shortish, but again content matters.

$60 for 8 hours or less though would be pretty terrible.

@faraday I did look at Ares but hadn't included its work in progress state. If FS3 is the system I end up going with it'll be a contender, though its in Ruby if I recall correctly. Evennia had the scales tipped its way largely because python would be of more use to my day to day RL work than Ruby at the moment. And thank you for reminding me to include timeline above

@Tempest Channeling is something that Fate/Dresden Files RPG does very well. Built in measure of strength, fatigue, power balance, etc. I envision the grid as RP focused in one area, but with those smaller handful of room mini-grids setup for other places. Spreading things out too much without a focal point would make it harder for RP to happen on a regular basis. On a 100 character MU that might not be a problem, but on a 20-30 character grid it becomes more of a issue.

    • RE: RL things I love

@Aria There was a story in the local paper here a few weeks ago about a small business plumber that had learned the trade from his father/taken over the business now doing the same for his daughter. It was awesome to see a girl unafraid to get into the trades, but also kinda sad that it was novel enough to warrant a human interest story.

A lot of plumbing/house break/fix type jobs are really easy to tackle on your own, especially with the aid of the internet and youtube how-to. Surprisingly I've yet to see "How to Fix a Leaky Spigot" type guide that listed a penis under the required tools.
