Speaking of time travel, Loki is pretty fun so far. Plus, first openly bisexual character in the MCU? I got chills to hear him admit it so casually, it was awesome!

RE: Critters!
After months of my son begging and begging and bEGGING I finally gave in and adopted two kittens, a brother and sister.
The kiddo named this one Oreo and she's as sweet and cute as the name implies.
I named this one Alucard and HE'S A DEMON FROM THE FOULEST PITS OF HELL but I love him.

RE: The Celebrated Company of Mongrels
This is probably a good place to mention that if the write up didn't make it clear, rape and pillaging and other war crimes are gonna be a hard no when it comes to "things PCs can do."
I am not interested in having them explicitly on-screen as a storyteller/GM either, I think the implication of those things happening is dark enough for my dark fantasy pretendy funtimes.
Just in case that was a concern.

Harassment of player != harassment of character. If a player harasses my other players, they're banned. If someone's character harasses some other character, that's a shadier zone. A much shadier one. The expectation that your character needs administrative protection from uncomfortable speech/actions against them, to me, seems excessive.
I... think you're going to find that not a lot of people agree with the distinction you're trying to make there in regards to offensive behavior or harrassment. Personally, I find your argument bizarre. A "character" is not a person, it's an imaginary construct that has a real life person behind it. Content that is by its nature sensitive or offensive could be imposed on a REAL-LIFE PERSON that, according to you, is obligated to exposure because...it's a stream of consciousness? It's not, man, it's not actually someone's literal unfiltered stream of consciousness being automagically channeled into the void, the output from that chat channel on your game is the result of a deliberate choice by another living breathing player who could very well use the excuse of "oh, it's my character's subconscious! Bleh!" to say or behave however they want with no other justification.
It's pretty black and white.

This is now the second time that, when called on it, she's vanished and let the other mods step up to play shield.
That's not really a fair statement. This is a moderated forum, despite how much some parties don't like that, and I get the distinct impression @Arkandel got dragged into this Remove Auspice thing after this thread and some of the posts had already gone up? Instead of approaching him politely with evidence of misbehavior first, so he also has had to wade through second and third party reactions?
I get a little tired of the dumb, brassy lynch mob attitude around here sometimes.

My son's homework, in which he included a literal measuring stick.
Halfway through drawing me, he stops and goes: "Oops! Daddy, we can't forget your haaaaaaiiiiirry arms!" -

To be honest, I feel like I have to equate this to some kind of addiction where you guys just want the "rush" of being the ones to make a "new" game, to be there lording it over the MUing peons "YES, I MADE THIS!", and then 2 months later, you hand it off to whoever is handy when the 'new car smell' and hawt sexxorz from the supermodels that come with it has worn off.
As one of the Soapbox's official Eternal Lurkers, and someone who (I am about 90% certain) has never really been involved with any of you shmucks beyond the forum and thus has no pony in this show, I'm going to have to butt in and say that I have never, ever felt like anyone here has "lorded" a new game over anyone. Content creation is inherently cool and it's easy to be swept up in the excitement of a new game, sure, so since they're repeat offenders the attention is just naturally going to be there. Kinda sounds like someone has a jelly belly to me.
I'm also going to have to echo the sentiment that responding to an open call for staff by shitting down everyone's necks and doomsaying a project that isn't even off the ground instead of throwing up a "Hey, can I help you in one area I've found lacking?" is pretty goddamn lame.

Chet, a lot of what you say is just word salad to the rest of us. I dunno if you only come here when you're manic or what, but it doesn't seem particularly healthy.

RE: RL things I love
I have mild rosacea, mostly just in my cheeks; it's always earned me a lot of teasing from coworkers and acquaintances, and it's just one of those small aggravating things I've dealt with for years now. "OHOHO LOOK WHO'S BLUSHING!" Stop, jeez.
Tonight, my kiddo came up to me and it looked like his cheeks were really really flushed. I was like, "Little dude, what's going on?"
And he was like, "I put red chalk on my cheeks so I can look as cool as you!"
AHHHHHHHHHHH. Freaking kids man, they are so sweet.

RE: General Video Game Thread
First bounty in RDR2, I was in the quest zone and going up the hill next to the river when my camera panned right and I saw a stranger NPC riding through. I didn't know yet that the game doesn't obscure the bounty NPC's name like that or that strangers are pretty much everywhere in the game, so I assumed he was the target. I:
- Charged across the river, almost getting swept away in the process
- Chased him for like thirty miles because my aim with the lasso was shit
- Hogtied him and started heading back, when I noticed the quest zone was still there and the quest didn't update.
- Charged back across the river, almost didn't make it AGAIN
- Discreetly went to the top of the hill, yep, actual dude is right fucking there. Oops!
- Tried to let the stranger NPC go and he started swinging and melee mode kicks in sooo
- Push circle: my guy autoequips his knife and stabs the NPC right in the goddamn stomach. NPC ded, instantly. OOPS
- I throw the body in the river because why not lol
I am the worst bounty hunter.

RE: For anyone who might be struggling with the hallmark holiday too
My kid broke my heart the other day when he said he hates Mother's Day. His mom is...somewhere, I dunno, but we haven't heard from her in almost six years. This is a very hard holiday for him, so we're making it Grandma Day instead. ️
So much love and sympathy for other people in similar situations...just remember that family is what you make it.

RE: Random funny
Hahaha man, can you even imagine what your mental landscape and life would look like if literally the only way you were taught to cope with your massive and horrific childhood trauma was to...eat handfuls of bugs at a time and sing the exact same song about not giving a shit over and over again for twenty years or whatever??

OMG STAR WARS SAGAS.
Brief reenactment of my time there:Wizz: (Man, been years since I booted up the ol' MUSHCLIENT. A Star Wars game with a roster?! Sounds fun! I haven't gamed in a long time and I've never played this system, maybe I will start nice and easy with this dirt farmer on Tatooine, sounds like a cakewal--)
STAFF: OHOHO, SOMEONE HAS FINALLY CHOSEN MY MASTERPIECE, YOU ARE SECRETLY A SYNTHETIC ANDROID MURDERER AND THE EMPIRE WILL DESTROY YOU IF THEY FIND OUT YOU EVEN EXIST SO MAYBE JUST KEEP IT ON THE DL AND KEEP DIRT FARMING BECAUSE DOING LITERALLY ANYTHING ELSE WOULD BE SUPER SKETCH, ALSO FIND YOUR FAKE BRO NOBODY HAS PLAYED IN THREE YEARS WHO IS LITERALLY YOUR ONLY SHEET RELATIONSHIP
Wizz: ........................... Hey man seen my bro?

Ten people having a blast is in my opinion more successful than two hundred people that are utterly miserable.
@arkandel said in Midnight MUSH:
To me longevity counts. I don't care too much for flashes in the pan kind of games; run it for a year+ without losing your players, then you're doing something right.
Actually, to be honest my best memories of this hobby involve games that each only lasted roughly a summer and consisted of about ten or fifteen people total. Like, I'm not going to complain if more people like the game and it lasts longer than I personally think it would, but I really don't care about trying to quantify and capture things like a "right" amount of time to run or the "right" number of people to have.
Like, if this never leaves the ground or crashes and burns after takeoff I'm not going to come back here and write a self-absorbed eulogy about it, haha. I've just got a strong urge to make it because it's a place I'd like.

RE: RL things I love
Kiddo got anonymous gifts for Xmas this year, they just showed up on our doorstep in big cardboard boxes with his name in sharpie. No card inside, nada. Clothes, art supplies, Legos, action figures and a plushy -- like SO MUCH stuff. And he was so, so thrilled to open all these extra presents on Xmas day, which just melts your heart cause he is a goddamn cute kid and a real sweetheart, if I say so myself.
Like my life is still a mess but damn if I didn't feel better than I have for years seeing him so excited. What a sweet thing for some random person to do, I wanna cry every time I think about it.

RE: Good Things
First good party of the new year. Totally had a moment with a girl I have some feelings for; she serenaded me with a Poison song.
