I was literally just talking to someone about how well Monsterhearts 2 would translate to an MU environment. Like just 10 minutes ago.

RE: Hello!Project's Mysterious Game Project Thread
The support system for Ares is amazing. There are a ton of helpful people on both the Forum and the Discord.

RE: Hello!Project's Mysterious Game Project Thread
That's a loaded question. In some ways Ares is meant to function in very specific ways(transparency, for instance, is key since there really isn't a way to obfuscate most things). You must use single word names and you're very strongly discouraged from re-using names as things linked to the old player will now be linked to the new player even if they're technically different characters.
In other ways Ares is very customizable. I've coded many different character generation systems for Ares with very little training in Ruby. The catch is integrating it with the web portal, which takes a lot more effort and work. Even something as simple as displaying a custom character sheet can be a daunting and, for me up to this moment, unachievable task. Nevermind integrating your +roll system into the web portal for usage in scenes. That's not to say that it can't be done but it may take more work than the average MUSH admin is willing to put in.
I hope that helps answer your question at least a little.
Edited to add...I still recommend Ares over any other MU server out there at the moment just for the web portal which is fantastic.

RE: Gauging Interest in a new Erotic RP MU* (with anonymous survey)
To me, the difference is something like this...
A non-erotic game set in mythic Greece: You and your RP partner bring your characters into a scene. You play the owner of a brothel and your partner plays one of his brides. You're both fully clothed, there's no talk about sex, you might hold hands but there's no overt signs of affection otherwise.
An erotic game set in mythic Greece: You pose your character entering with your RP partner on one arm and a prized companion on the other. Both are topless with graphic depictions of their breasts in their @descs and possible links to NSFW images.
Same game, same theme, but in one sex is just a part of life. That's how I see it anyway.

Why no Star Trek games?
So Modiphius just released their Klingon Core Rules for their Star Trek RPG and it got me wondering; why are there no active Star Trek games?
For me, the few games that have come about have been stationary or they try to fit everyone onto one space station or starship. I'd like something in the middle, myself. Maybe centered on a space station but people can "crew up" and get their own ship to explore some portion of space? Instead of one starship crewed to the gills have a few that use a central space station as a common port of call?
I dunno. I just know I get the itch to RP Star Trek from time to time and can never find a game!

[NSFW] Erotic RP Concepts
Saw this started in another thread and I thought it might be worth its own. Favorite concepts/characters played(or want to play) on an erotic themed game?
Some of the most fun I had was on a superhero game that was just over the top. I played Captain America and the "superhero registration" act meant something very different there.
Most of the time, however, I'm a sucker for melodramatic supernatural goth drama.

RE: Gauging Interest in a new Erotic RP MU* (with anonymous survey)
If I came across as saying "everyone should post everything", that's not what I meant. Just that people should be free to share what they want without fear of being shamed. They should also be free to not post anything for whatever reason as well.
Also, anything that is posted should have clearly defined tags to let people know what is going on in the log. People who fail to do that should be dealt with accordingly(reprimanded and/or having their ability to post logs revoked).
I just don't buy into the "I don't want to read it, so no one should be allowed to post it" mentality.

RE: Gauging Interest in a new Erotic RP MU* (with anonymous survey)
Even if the focus isn't on erotic RP(though it certainly could be) I'd just like to see more games that don't shame players for engaging in erotic RP. A lot of games nowadays have policies in place that amount to "do it but don't post logs about it or discuss it in any way" and I think that's a shame.

RE: Good TV
I read yesterday that Comedy Central is bringing back Bevis and Butt-Head too. If I'm being honest, however, I don't see how either can exist in the modern world.

RE: Horror MUX - Discussion
If you had a game where players just played normal people? You could do it pretty much out of the box. It has FS3 installed by default which works well for base human level stuff. I think you could do low-level supernatural stuff too with some hand waving and creative use of the combat system. If you don't like FS3 or intend to do something more powerful than low fantasy/supernatural then it gets a bit more complex.

RE: Horror MUX - Discussion
I always wanted to play on HorrorMU but just never found the time. It'd be a slam dunk if it were on Ares. Either in the episodic format or in something with more standard continuity.

RE: Faraday Appreciation Thread
I'm in the same boat. Without Ares I would not be able to RP at all anymore. It's also allowed me to bring some people into RP with that had never MU'd before and would likely never fit on a traditional game. So, for those reasons alone, I'm eternally grateful that Ares exists.

RE: Good or New Movies Review
@Auspice Which one? The first movie or King of the Monsters? I'm middling on the first movie but I loved KotM.

RE: Heroes and Villains MUSH
So, the return of H&V hasn't been quite the success I had hoped for. There are a bunch of reasons for that I'm sure. I'm gonna give it one final go before I pack it up, however. So this is just a poke to remind people we're still around and a final feeler to see if anyone is interested in helping us succeed as staff.
To be sure, we're a basic bitch blended theme hero game and there are a number of those out there right now. What I hope settles us apart is we're pretty laid back, I've tried to create a pretty quick and simple app process, and we run on Ares.
If interested feel free to hit me up here or there(I'm Castlevania). I won't be around much tonight but I'll be on tomorrow during the day cleaning idle character bits and stuff.
Thanks.

RE: Good or New Movies Review
Aw crap. Just read that Godzilla vs Kong has been moved to May 21st, 2021. Sucks but at least it'll be a nice birthday movie for me to hit.

RE: Good or New Movies Review
I had not till now. It was very well done. Now I must rewatch the original this weekend. LOL

RE: Good or New Movies Review
I see what you're saying. I'm excited to see it in September. Only three movies that got reshuffled really bummed me out. Ghostbusters, Godzilla vs King Kong, and Candyman. I'm glad Candyman just got pushed a few months back and not a whole year.

RE: Good or New Movies Review
See, I took something different away from the original Candyman. First, I just took it as a horror movie. I try not to read too much into my cinema. That said, I think there were obvious parallels between the movie and the real world. Cabrini Green was a rundown ghetto where people had largely no hope. Candyman, to me, represented that oppressive atmosphere of hopelessness and decay. The everyday people in the film were used to it and him for the most part and had a much milder reaction to the thought of him being real and killing people than the main character. The main character, a middle class white woman, is thrust into a world that she existed on the fringes of but was never immersed in. Now she's immersed and experiencing the horror that these people experienced every day.
I didn't see it as a white woman menaced by a black man. I saw it as an economically privileged person(even if I wouldn't have used that terminology back then) experiencing the plight of the underprivileged people she'd been living next to her entire life and never really gave much of a thought about.
It was one of the few movies that made me think about socioeconomic inequality. Like District 9 it taught me something and was one of the best horror movies I'd ever seen. At least that's how I remember thinking about it. To be honest it's been a long time since I've seen the movie. With the new one coming up, however, I may have to change that.

RE: RL things I love
My wife just texted me that she found the War for Cybertron Ultra Magnus box for $30 at our local Walmart. I'm actually giddy.
