    • The Storypath System / Aberrant Second Edition

On the surface, I love the Storypath system. Using the Trinity core rules my TT group did a GI Joe style campaign and it worked great.

Sadly, I can't really stand either of the Storypath implementations. I found Scion 2e to be an absolute mess. Aberrant was a little better but I just hate some of the design choices they made(convoluted character generation and starting at Scale 1 instead of Scale 0 which throws some things just off-kilter enough to be jarring).

The good thing about Aberrant is that I think you could house rule a simple character generation process and that would make things quite a bit better.

Anyway, just got my backer PDF of Aberrant and wanted to do a mini-rant about a system that I think I could absolutely love...but just can't.

    • RE: M&M 3E Setting Poll

Unfortunately, the more I dug into M&M 3E the more I realized I really don't care for it. I thought about switching systems to something like Wild Talents or even just a simple traits based system but then it sort of just sat there and I've not done much with it since. 😞

I think a game like this sounds really fun. Here's my suggestion, don't get hung up on code. You could set up server with Ares, create a custom tab to display a PDF file, and just use PDF character sheets. If people want to use the system for RP Ares does have a dice system that can be used in-game or through the web portal.

    • RE: Good or New Movies Review

I don't think Trek has felt like Trek in a very long time. I enjoyed the new movies but more as general sci-fi than as Star Trek movies. I found no enjoyment in Discovery or Picard, unfortunately.

That said, unless it's another movie in a franchise done by the same creative team, I don't like to judge things that are coming but what has happened in the past. I'm just excited something is happening I guess.

Strangers who come up to me while I'm in a store, minding my own business, put their hands on me(on my shoulder) and say "I feel so sorry for you" because I choose to wear a mask in public.

    • RE: Dead By Daylight

Do you play mostly survivor? My biggest suggestion, whatever you "main", play some of the other side as well. You'd be surprised by what you learn from the other perspective.

Some tips for making it as a solo survivor(I'm assuming solo queues anyway) is that knowledge is power. At least for me. I can't juke a killer for crap so I generally have to avoid being chased. Use Kindred. I think it's the most powerful perk in the game. I also recommend using Feng as your first survivor(if nothing else than to unlock her perks). The Technician perk can be invaluable as you learn to ace genny checks and I run Alert right alongside Kindred.

My personal survivor build also utilizes Inner Strength and Small Game(gotta find them bones and break em).

Finally, as a survivor, never assume the killer can see you. The killer has a very narrow field of view and survivors can hide in some pretty obvious spots(crouched in the corn, for example).

For killer gameplay, my biggest suggestion is to pick a basic killer(Mikey for instance) and just get a feel for the range of lunges and finding hidden survivors. Also, never let a chase go on too long. If I haven't hit someone within 40 seconds of a chase starting I break it off so I can put pressure on gens.

I also learned a lot by watching streamers. Otzdarva is a good one for killer play.

Anyway, those are the thoughts just off the top of my head. Welcome to the fog!

A DC Beyond game could mix the tropes together fairly well.

@Mr-Johnson I think the pre-nuke Fallout supers game could be really neat. Do you mean pre-nuke as in "modern day 50's feel"? Cause, again, sounds awesome to me.

@SilentHills I'm the same way. I'm also a bit color blind so I often mess up colors. What I found helped me was using GWs contrast paints. They're very forgiving and do a lot of the fiddly work for you. For me, they work really well.

    • RE: What Types of Games Would People Like To See?

@Wizz I wish fewer people would not get hung up on this concept. Get Ares, add a profile tab that supports PDF files(I can show you how if need be), have character sheets done via PDF with +dice support if need be. I'd play the crap out of a He-Man/She-Ra game and FAE works very well for it I think. 🙂

I was referring to the Unisystem incarnation. I'm not a fan of GURPS but you could probably do it fairly well with that system too.

There are no words to express my excitement. I'm assuming it'll run on a version of Cortex similar to the Marvel Heroic RPG.

System wise my preference is "not WoD or FS3". It's nothing against those systems(I very much like both of them) but they are everywhere. I know that helps in terms of familiarity but I'm suffering from system exhaustion when it comes to them both.

For something like this(X-Files, Fringe, Etc) I would probably suggest Conspiracy X by Eden Studios. It's literally designed for this type of theme. I also think it falls in between the areas of Light Stats and Crunchy.

    • RE: Pacing in Ares Scenes

I don't think there is a "normal". As most people have said here, it depends. I had a scene yesterday that lasted a few hours and poses came like gang busters. It was a mix of players both on the web and on the mush.

I've had scenes start with a brisk pace on the MUSH and then revert to a slower pace when someone had to bow out but we didn't want to end the scene or kick them from the scene. So we just transitioned it to a web scene and the posts came every few hours till we were done.

The other day a RP partner and I decided to wrap a "scene" not necessarily because we were done but because we realized the "scene" had been going on for 2 RL weeks. The scene itself was just a place for us to sit and pose maybe two or three times a day. Super causal scene that transitioned from one place and time to another. We tend to keep one of these private scenes going just so we always have something going on though it's not uncommon to break from that "scene" as we focus on other scenes or even other games.

That's the great thing about the web portal, it's like Burger King in that you can play it your way. It also helps breach the timezone gap. I RP with a few people from the UK and a lot of people from the West Coast of the US and this helps us out a ton.

I think you could do a pretty decent game using the Dresden Accelerated ruleset. It is, by far, my favorite iteration of FATE.
