RE: Interest check, and early discussion: Rifts

The only problem I see with the 'throw it in a blender' technique - expecting at least staff to have access to all of that material - as fun as that encounter might be.
Not untrue.
I think even if you limit it to the core rules and whatever splats suit your area it'll still be fantastic though. Even in just the core rules you have such a wide variety of character types to choose from that I don't think anyone could ever get bored.

RE: Interest check, and early discussion: Rifts
@kumakun I'd be all for a Rifts game.
Are you interested?
Yes.What sort of Rifts game would you like to see? What power level?
I'm a "throw it all in a blender" type. I fully embrace the off the wall power levels of Rifts and would like to see just about anything appable from a Rogue Scholar to a Demigod.Palladium or SavageWorlds?

RE: Interest check: Early Rebellion SW game
@theznar I think it depends on how deep you want to go. I'm using WEG D6 for a private Old Republic game right now and it works fine. C-gen is done on the MUSH, a sheet can be accessed through the game or through the web portal, and they use a basic dice command for rolls. Granted this is a small group, but it works well for us so far.
If you're looking for 100% web portal integration with coded dice commands and web portal c-gen, I'm still not sure how it'd be more complicated than most other systems out there. Just my 2 cents though.

RE: TTRPG's You've Wanted to MU* (But Probably Won't)
@Ganymede said in TTRPG's You've Wanted to MU* (But Probably Won't):
Yes, but you are playing the game with others. Presumably everyone of a particular Tier are playing or competing with one another, it becomes imperative to have the other books, which may have mechanics related how the occupations interact with one another.
I think it's more important that staff know how the two interact. This way they can act as a mediator for whatever conflict may erupt.
The good thing about the Palladium RPG is that it's not WoD. The mechanics are all kind of uniform giving bonuses or penalties to stats that all characters have. One character won't have Gifts that operate one way while another has Disciplines that operate a different way. I don't think there would be as big a disconnect between a character playing an RCC from book C and a character playing an OOC from book D as compared to something like WoD.

I know piracy is a thing, but it kinda bothers me your tier is limited by your ability to afford the books.
It might seem that way but all you'd really need using that system is the core book and whatever supplement you needed for your RCC/OCC. Want to play a Ley Line Walker? Core rules will likely be all you need. You COULD use other books to flesh some things out but they're not needed.

RE: TTRPG's You've Wanted to MU* (But Probably Won't)
If you wanted to explore the sheer immensity of all that is Rifts, I think it'd be best to do PDF sheets on the wiki/web portal. There's just too much to think about in terms of code otherwise.

Rifts or TMNT. Both Palladium games which means people have a strong knee-jerk reaction but I've had fun playing both since the 80s/90s.

RE: MUs That We Would Love To Make (But Won't)
Ahhh, Star Wars. One day I'm gonna get off my butt and get my Legends of the Old Republic game up and running.

RE: MUs That We Would Love To Make (But Won't)
I'm a little shocked there's not a L&L game set in King's Landing. L&L RP, the servants and noble style RP, knights, thieves, etc.

RE: MUs That We Would Love To Make (But Won't)
@SquirrelTalk Heh, no. Those were included mainly as examples of what is possible. Want to play a demon from hell? Or an insane clown? You'll fit right in here.

RE: MUs That We Would Love To Make (But Won't)
I think Mortal Kombat would make a fantastic MU. Just look at the playable roster of characters you have in 11 right now. Cyborg Ninjas, regular ninjas, movie stars, special forces agents, wizards, gods, ghosts, Rambo, the Terminator, Robocop, The Joker, Spawn. Set it during the Outworld invasion of Earth and I think you have a setting ripe for RP.

RE: MUs That We Would Love To Make (But Won't)
When Scion Second Edition was preparing to come out I really wanted to make a game based on it. Then it came out and I just hated how they implemented the Storypath System.

RE: MUs That We Would Love To Make (But Won't)
@SquirrelTalk If you're talking about World Wide Wrestling then, yeah, I don't think it'd work well for a MUSH. I honestly don't like it for tabletop either. Were I to do a game I'd use Wild World Wrestling. Or a slimmed down version of it. It is a stripped down version of the Know Your Role RPG.

RE: MUs That We Would Love To Make (But Won't)
I'd totally be down for a Mortal Kombat or Pro Wrestling MU.

RE: MUs That We Would Love To Make (But Won't)
I think a L&L style game in Hell would be amazing. I think a L&L style game set in Olympus would be really neat too.
7th Sea: 1st or 2nd Edition? I'm still wrapping my head around 2nd Edition. Played it a few times with my TT group and it seemed to flow pretty well.
I'd love to see a Masters of the Universe game. With the upcoming MotU RPG I might see about making it happen.

RE: Someplace to play?
@bear_necessities I can confirm there are a number of private/sandbox games out there that don't advertise publicly for various reasons.
That said, I've found Ares Central to be about the best resource for new games lately.

RE: The Storypath System / Aberrant Second Edition
My knee jerk response to creating a "Gods and Monsters" style MUSH would be to use Wild Talents. It can be clunky in some areas but my group had a lot of fun with it and once you get over the learning spike(I don't think it's much of a curve, it's more like a big spike but once you figure it out the game is pretty slick) you can create characters pretty quickly and there are not a lot of limits on what you can create. I think the problem is the system might be TOO open for a game with 10-20 players on it. Also, that learning spike might end up being a wall for some people and one not worth trying to climb over.
With Aberrant, I'm working on stripping it down and simplifying it a bit. Not to a toolkit level but trying to make it so you could at least get in quick and come close to making whatever you wanted.

RE: M&M 3E Setting Poll
With Aberrant out I may revisit it. A setting that crosses Love and Monsters with The Boys seems particularly interesting to me using a stripped down version of Aberrant.
