I like the idea of the school within a school. I think that will def be a thing.

RE: Potential Buffy Game
So to answer some questions quickly...
I'm leaning heavily towards Dayton, OH for the setting. It just seems like a Buffy kind of setting to me.
My plan is that after the slayers went active they managed to kill or chase most evil away with the world entering into a sort of peaceful period, even on Hellmouths. In reality evil just had to get smarter and hide. I want the idea that the characters are privy to things that normal people aren't to be prominent on the game. People and creatures have to work in the shadows.
For what "tier" the game will be on I'm thinking we're going to start small. The first "season" may focus on something localized and personal, something specific to Dayton. We may advance things as we play through but I'm envisioning this game as a "soft reboot" of the Buffy franchise so I'd like to start small and keep things personal for the time being.
Speaking of personal, I really liked the suggestion that personal drama needs to drive things as much as global(MUX wide) plots so I'm trying to find ways to make these things happen. Having characters submit 3 "dramatic hooks" as part of the c-gen process or having a "IC Drama" BBoard where people can post for things they're looking for or what not.
Anyway, it's all subject to change of course. These are just the things I'm pondering at the moment.

RE: Potential Buffy Game
Thanks for the feedback everyone. I'm now debating between a fictional city and a real one to set the game in. People are right, there are a number of advantages to using a real city. My wife got a kick out of basing it in Ohio as I've been wanting to move there for ages.
We probably won't have a high school, instead focusing on a college (possibly fictional even if it a non-fictional city, we'll see) for those who want that style of RP.
I'm not rushing into things. I'm gonna take a few days to look over my code, patch things I think need patching, and ponder the setting and theme.
Keep the ideas coming though, I do appreciate them.

RE: Potential Buffy Game
@ixokai Ahhh, I gotcha! I never saw it that way but I get it and I think it works wonderfully for the show! For a game, however, I think I'd want something more open. Something that didn't cause conflict and restricting slayers to 1 or even none would cause conflict in fairly understandable ways.
As for the rest, here's what I'm leaning towards...A fictional southern city that is a so-called "college town" (the college is integrated with the city so it's difficult to tell where one ends and the other begins). This way if the focus becomes college students that's easy enough but it's also easy enough to shift to other stories for those who want something more "adult"(for lack of a better phrase) we can use the same setting, same grid, and things won't be weird or contrived.
At least that's what I'm thinking at the moment.

RE: Potential Buffy Game
@ixokai My understanding, and I could be wrong, is that any potential slayer born post-Willow's spell would be active. So anyone born after the show went off the air would become a Slayer at some point (age 12 or 13?) So there could have been new slayers popping up from the end of the show till now meaning slayer ages could range from 12 - 38 or so? Again, unless I'm misunderstanding how the spell worked? And even then we could always house rule it I suppose.

RE: Potential Buffy Game
The good news is I had a working backup of my Buffy DB. That makes me happy.

RE: Potential Buffy Game
@Arkandel Well, that's certainly a way we could go. We could start with setting the game in Place A and grow from there. If most people want to play teenagers/college students I have no problem creating a game based on that theme. From there we could grow as characters age and head out on their own some move on to other things, new plots and more adult oriented stories, and maybe some people create new "school characters" and we continue with those stories as well.
Like I said, I'm in the planning stages still so hearing what people want and how they want to play is very important.

Potential Buffy Game
I figured I'd open this here so it has it's own thing instead of derailing the other thread. A lot of this is contingent on me looking at my Buffy code and finding that it's usable but...
I'm thinking of opening a Buffy game. That's about as far as I've gotten with the idea but here are the seeds I've been pondering...
1: Put it in a big city that hasn't been explored in the Buffy-verse(so not L.A.)
2: Have it be in real time since the show went off the air. So it's been 15 years since all the potential slayers were made active.
3: No limit on slayers aside from them having to be women. Given the time period since all slayers were made active this is all the current generation has known, Buffy may even be a legend at this point (ala Luke Skywalker).
4: No comic continuity. Keep it strictly TV canon.
5: No real limits on what PCs could be. If it was in the Buffy/Angel core rules I think it should be supported on the game. And that's it for now. Those are the ideas I'm thinking about running with. Thoughts? Ideas? Thanks!

RE: Active Modern Day Games?
I can't comment on how active it is but there's this place http://calaveras.wikidot.com.
My wife and I have been searching for something to ever since Armageddon MUX went tits up. I've been tempted to dust off my Buffy code and see about getting something started there but I dunno. A good Modern Day MUX would be a cool find though.

RE: Anyone else want Beast Wars back?
I really liked MASK. Well not the racing season but everything before that. I'll never forget the year my grandmother asked me what I wanted for Christmas and my answer was, "A Switchblade!"

RE: Anyone else want Beast Wars back?
Wow, that's too bad. 2K5 was never my thing but it was the rock of the TF MU genre for a while.

RE: Anyone else want Beast Wars back?
No need to be ashamed! I have the full Marvel Transformers run sitting in a box in my closet along with most of the DW run. For IDW I've been getting their over-sized collector's editions. I think the IDW series is fun by like ThatDamnGuy said, it's just different when it's not on Earth.

RE: Anyone else want Beast Wars back?
I'll have to check it out. I'll also have to see about digging out my old Beast Wars DVDs and comics omnibus...

RE: Anyone else want Beast Wars back?
I visit there from time to time and they just don't seem very active. It's not quite the theme I'd be looking for anyway really.

RE: Anyone else want Beast Wars back?
I'd love a good Transformers MU. G1 or Beast Wars. Or a combo of the two.

RE: Inspiration material for your current game
A Game of Thrones and while it's not reading or viewing the Dark Souls series of games.

RE: Horror MUX - Discussion
It makes me so sad I'm not taking part in this.

RE: New Vampire Release
Game Kastle seems to have gotten the codes for your 5E pdfs. If you preordered from them and haven't gotten the code yet I'd drop them an email. I'm psyched to get to reading!

RE: Horror MUX - Discussion
I really wanted to play here but if the RP times from Lovecraft are similar here I'm just on a different schedule than would be feasible for RP unfortunately. Makes me a sad panda.
