I'm wary of supporting positive reviews remaining in the ad threads if negative ones are being put elsewhere, especially with the risk the negative reviews could be hidden behind the membership wall of the Hog Pit. It might be easy to join but it isn't something a new member will know to seek out unless someone held their hand into discovering it.

I think keeping the ad threads for Q&A as well as for linking to revelant threads, whether in this subforum or the Hog Pit, is the correct course of action to avoid bias.

@thatguythere Lost Dominion has some neat rules and adaptations, but due to playtimes I was never able to get into any RP there. The staff are friendly and the rules are rather nifty. I don't agree with all of them, but it's pretty cool.

I have managed to pull off ye olde swash and buckle here and there. PFS actually was the most recent and worked out. Though its easier when you fuck up THE DICE FUCK YOU, to turn Ha-HAA! into a scream of Ha-H-AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

@Sunny Totally in favor of this. If PrPs have a base writeup (to assure Staff that they aren't just a social tea party (again, using hyperbole on purpose)), points gained in them go into the "big pool of important points."

@Lotherio I do like the automatic gossip idea. You could totally do weighted points instead of two different pools, but then you're just lessening the issue (which honestly might be enough of a counterbalance).

@Lotherio The end of Inglorious Basterds was a historical WW2 MU where staff totally did not care about keeping the metaplot immutable.

I do have a system called +plots. It's basically a way to toss out plots staff wants run, or ideas players pitch. It's pretty neat. I found on a site that had a repository of code (not github). It's inelegant, but I added some things and made tweaks (like +plot/add posts to a bboard like +events does, so they can work in tandem.).

Sounds like the hard part might be getting people to play the 'what if' game to chat up ideas and inspirations for plots, or encourage people to request plots.

Though, getting handed a pre-written script to ST would suck. I won't do it 😛 I like keeping people on their toes a bit.

Fuuuck, that's a tragedy.

I like Roll20 a great deal for online TTs but it doesn't strike me as really having the tools to act as a MU alternative at this time. The text interface is fine to capture play in a particular session, but saving completed scenes/subsequently linking them all together took additional work in gdocs or a separate wiki. You can run it alongside a MU client, of course, but once you're doing that I question why you aren't playing solely in the client or solely on Roll20.

All that said, I suspect the features it lacks are a matter of things not being requested/the developers not perceiving there's an audience for persistent text environment support, since it's mainly a TT session platform at this point. I value it a lot for what it is.

My answer: Not all games have a large enough playerbase to wave them off. Whether or not this is because we suffer these people is, honestly, something I don't think we can easily answer.

I just watched a group of people I was interested in RPing with join a game out of excitement then leave it relatively soon after because they felt the staffer was snarking at them. These people are patient, reasonable, intelligent people and they left because they weren't being treated right.

This is the wall I hit every time I try to play a Mu* with others, or think about this problem. I don't think it's a Catch-22 but in my mind it's a Catch-22.

@Nein Everything you describe having happened here, I have seen it happen, too, and oh sweet mother of pearl, buckets of sympathy. Nothing ever got me to throw up my hands with a, "Fuck this, fuck that, fuck everything, I'm out!" faster than this breed of insanely entitled madness.

@Ominous I'm just going to say we definitely share a brain on this one, 100%. I refer to the 'elevator pitch' front page as a 'mission statement' -- and I wish like hell more games would do this. (I point to Reno1 still as one of the better examples of this I've seen.)

Commenting more in general than about saving goats in particular, for me it is more about making the stakes matter personally to the PC.
I have played character living in a van where basic survival was everything and had great fun, I have also been in literal save the world plots that were boring because my PC had no skin in the game.
For example the table top D+D game I am in is about saving the world, but my characters stake in it is that the big bad's underlings killed his best friend back when we were level 3 (current level is 17) my characters motivation is still on getting vengeance for his friend while saving the world is a nice bonus.

@Ominous You could also turn, for example, character concepts and RP relationships into characters for screenwriters or comic book authors. Steve Ditko gets royalties on Spider-Man and Dr. Strange, and he's worth $84 million at the present.
