Yeah, it's pretty good. It's like a deck-building card game crossed with an RPG. Any White Wolf game can be cheesed, but the simplicity of the mechanics prevent a lot of that, and the card game aspect brings in elements that add entirely new player skills to gaming.

Actually that's a trick, my code helping anyone enjoy a game massages my ego. I'm honored by anyone who wants to use it.

Groups of character class/species/specialty/utility/prominence to upgrade through, in exchange for a consensual character death, when proper XP/AP is accrued? You'd need the proper type of AP judgment, however. For instance, exchanging XP for scenes would fall into the category of more face time, whereas experience with the combat system would be specialization. Or how about a system where the more you contribute to larger plots, the more you work your way up in terms of ritual importance?

I might suggest that there be a random element that can make you discover that you have or don't have sympathy with someone you thought otherwise of. This can be anything like selected interpersonal traits to just randomized stuff (like draw three playing cards, these are "traits. The closer in number to someone elses trait the more it matters. If its the same suit its a positive thing, if its the opposing suit (say hearts-spades, clubs-diamonds) its a real problem, if its just the other color uh -- its its something one doesn't care about but the other is focused on). Face cards suggest outside relationships with friends, family, exes, duty, obligation, emotional scars)

Likewise, if you want the video game funny, assume that like martial arts moves, the character commits to an action, trying to guess what the others action will be. So benevolent or not, there is chaos and competition.

I'm not staff there, but I can shed some light on this as a player there. The policy is that they slowly introduce new series during certain chapters and acts (ie Chapter 1, Act 2) as the grid and plot focus(es) shift around.

It's had some pros and cons, but I think it's ensured several games' plots don't start out of the gate at the same time and compete with each other. Also, some plot items, like WA2, are already being dropped in hints. I hoping it'll have the side effect of also allowing new people of feeling able to jump in without having to be there at the MU* opening, too, but that's just my theory.

As for the one other place I've been on:
Battle Fantasia: Been on there on and off. If you like magical girl anime and the whole aesthetic of it, give it a try. I couldn't really get into it after a while, but that was more me than staff's fault.

Kissed down her spine; her back arched - better. He finally kisses her ass cheek and that's what I'd been waiting for. Rolled over, pulled on a robe, and told him she was merely interested in seeing if his actual ass-kissing was more interesting than his repeated attempts to do so publicly for favor. It was not, and he was dismissed.

Never pestered me trying to suck up and put others down to make himself look good again. Maybe he learned a lesson, maybe I just pissed him off. Doesn't matter, I thought myself very clever and laughed about it for days. I'm still laughing now and it's been years. Where does the time go.

I'll say there is a RPG called Phoenix Dawn Command which is card based. Not a normal deck of cards mind, but it has an aspect of deck building where various classes gets access to various cards, and as you level up you basically do deck building and challenges are made by using cards with various values and modifiers based on class abilities.

It's quite neat.

If the Scabard project is abandoned a year from now, or they switch to a subscription model, your notes might be stuck unless there's an export function of some sort.

I dunno, I don't think I'd need to change much else and I honestly think the only real hardcore mechanical changes I've suggested so far are cutting Mana and its associated ties to Arcana, and how reach works. Just the changes above would still basically be familiar and play more or less the same, I think, so maybe at this point I just need to write some crap up and test it and see how it feels.

@ixokai I do believe the attitude and expectations of staff sets the tone for the whole game. It's one of the reasons why I push Dystopia Rising's codes of conduct so hard -- the behavior of the people running that event was the most empathetic I have ever seen from people running a LARP and everything about the event reflected it, from the behavior of the players to the number of women and minorities who legged it out to the sticks to participate in the LARP, which was set right in the heart of lily-white Western New York (Dansville).

I'm wary of supporting positive reviews remaining in the ad threads if negative ones are being put elsewhere, especially with the risk the negative reviews could be hidden behind the membership wall of the Hog Pit. It might be easy to join but it isn't something a new member will know to seek out unless someone held their hand into discovering it.

I think keeping the ad threads for Q&A as well as for linking to revelant threads, whether in this subforum or the Hog Pit, is the correct course of action to avoid bias.
