Actually, I asked. At least on Penn you can set the @odrop NONAME and it won't prepend the name, so you can futz with the messages completely.

I did use the saved NPCs fairly often, but the ability to just 'goon' and 'henchman' NPCs in Ares might serve the purpose they mostly did. I suspect that for recurring big bads, I'll create a character object to use.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. You can even create additional NPC types beyond goon/henchman/miniboss/boss if you want to have more fine-tuned pre-set NPC types.

I used saved NPCs pretty regularly in the past edition, but I just figured I was a nutter, like usual. With Ares, we've used the ability to create additional NPC levels to provide set stats for various critters and beasties on T8S, without having to set them individually or anything like that. It's quite handy.

      Too Old For This

@wretched I HAVE to separate out the 2021 dead from the 2022 dead! It is disturbing that we ended one year losing a beloved comedian and started the next losing a beloved comedian.

Well, KMFDM worked with the jackass, too. Collaborated in 2017. The only act on that bill that is above reproach, as far as that is concerned, is Front Line Assembly. I just wish they'd make a statement.

I don't know. There's a laid out system of governance, factions that you're able to join, "character classes" in a way, the possibility of super powers, and a cinematic presentation of combat in a setting that has both structure, lore to play with, and an element of openness to make up stuff along the way.

@Coin is right about wanting to know more about the world, though.

I didn't say we'd cross off 90% of stuff, thus leaving 10% behind, just that I'm only 90% sure we'd cross off 100% of everything anyone does on these games.

      100% - 90% = 10%, duh.

      (Joke with Raptor. It's super-effective.)

Yeah, I know what you meant, frat-boy.There was a game, Metro perhaps, which had a specific category for "Victim RP" where you could pull out an NPC just to be messed with and, well, victimized. It makes my skin crawl, but I can't deny that it was quite popular.

I've had a lot of fun on this game too. I've got a couple of characters and staff has been understanding, kind, and eager to make things work at every opportunity. Having real, good, staff run plots remind me what I was missing at cliquey PRP places like FC/TR/CoH/etc.

@Thenomain You've mentioned in the past feeling bad when you didn't have enough evidence to kick people you knew were bad out of the game. Do you regret that decision now? Would you have done the same thing today?

It was not my decision alone, but I would have made the same decision. Had Troy or Lemuria had said that they wanted our multi game abuser removed from the game, I probably would have caved and done so. Had someone even under complete anonymity told me exactly what happened, I would have done so. It came down to punishing someone and being able to tell them why, being comfortable that I understood why, and nobody would give me that.

This is very much a "because I said so" situation, but I expect good staff to be benevolent dictators. I didn't have any sort of rule of law that I was going with; I was going with a rule of conscience.

Hell, I don't care if I don't believe that staff does THE right thing. We are human beings, we have a million personal belief systems. I want to know that they do A right thing.

Play to find out what happens.

If people were more willing to fail,
and if people were more willing to let others fail interestingly,
this would be a much easier discussion.

I was a lot more ambitious than I'm capable of accomplishing, and it turns out I don't quite have the support I thought I did. My peoples are lovely and awesome, but I was asking a LOT. So I've got to do a bunch of stuff on my own, or acknowledge that it's too much. I'm much more likely to go the former route.

It can be a bit of a balance though. My ideal is someone who has a PC with flaws, who RPs them, but who is /also/ capable of give and take and noticing/playing off others' flaws too. Because there are some people who are so in love with their broken PC that sometimes they become very self centered as far as needing that to be the focus of all scenes you have with them. (The If Only People Bothered to Unwrap My Awesome PC but Instead They're Bothering Me With Their Own Stuff people--I bet everyone has experienced that too.)

This is actually what I find the most enjoyable with MU* RP, the interactivity, having your characters learn about others, having others learn about your character, having relationships develop etc.

One of my most amazing experiences was when the person I RP'd with ICly commented on a minor thing from one of my poses more then a week previously. I felt completely floored by the fact someone had actually noticed and remembered such a minute detail.

I'm not particularly good at making deep and flawed characters, however I try to make characters that are interested in others and hopefully fun to interact with.

An odd case of reverse PoGo is when people stare at players these days. "You are STILL playing that?"

Yes, the game you played six weeks ago is still being played. Just because you stopped playing it doesn't mean it's no longer any good for anyone else.
