NO-GO IPs for MU*

@Kairos I know one had to have all automated character creation removed, but that was mid 90's. There was another afterwards that did automated character creation and got away with it so I think he's gotten more lax as I said above.

I think it's too fricking hard to automate RIFTS cg. Ugh. It hurts my brain to think. However, as someone who was on a game in the 90s. There was never anything told not to automate the game. We tried for a few but there were too many bugs and it drove our coder crazy (and I broke it a lot), so we took it down. Although I doubt you are talking about that game. >.> .. no wait I mean..

@Catsmeow It's not that hard, just a humongous amount of data entry really.
-
@Catsmeow The big problem I had with coding a Rifts c-gen was just that it was tedious. Every OCC or RCC needed something special about it. That's one of the reasons I was so excited for the Savage Worlds version of Rifts to come out, it's a much simpler system.

@Catsmeow
As someone who runs a Rifts TT the mere thought of trying to automate and code that monstrosity of a system makes my head want to explode. Hell, the data entry for the skill list alone would be brutal since every book adds more skills. -
@RDC
No, they understood what MUing was - Steve Jackson Games hosted/ran PyramidMOO back in the day, predating the US edition of In Nomine.
They've just always been very touchy about computer licensing of their products, ever since the deal to license GURPS for Fallout fell apart and they missed out on getting their name on one of the most beloved CRPG franchises ever made.

So basically you're saying they're super bitter.
Also, nice to see you around again, CG.

Maybe they were expecting another FBI raid?
(I kid, but for the fact that they really were raided by the FBI, ha ha.)

Sembieda/Palladium right now are taking a serious, vicious fanbase beating right now for that Robotech RPG Tactics Kickstarter.
Edit: Belatedly, so I wonder if they take the same approach to the Robotech license. I've seen a few Robotech games over the years, but they're being more active about Robotech in the last 5 years.

Robotech?
I don't care which, but the first game that lets my character pilot an AJACS gets me.
-
@Cupcake I would play the ass out of any game that puts my character into a Valkyrie

I was actually playing on an In Nomine MU when SJG found out about MUing and shut them down. Basically, they argued that MU*s violated their "video game" license - you could have a MU, they said, but you couldn't electronically store or alter sheets. Meaning no XP, no rolling, sheets couldn't be stored on the server.
Basically: they completely failed to understand what MUing was, or completely failed to explain it to their lawyers.
SJG's position on MUs is confusing, because in the basic set they encourage online forums and chat clients for playing with people.

I just found out the board game night I go to is hosted by a guy who works for Steve Jackson Games. I could ask him about it in person if folks want.

Robotech is maybe the one sci-fi setting I could oomph enough to play.
Sure, my hair is green now. I may or may not have wanted to dye it that color since I was a wee little tyke because Miriya was my heeeeeeeero, though. <cough>
My mother may or may not mercilessly tease me for it, but when I'm 50billion feet tall some day, I'mma get my revenge!!

I'm weird in that I never liked Robotech as itself as a kid, though I love Macross (I know, the Macross portion of Robotech was the least changed, but it's still weird to me).
It'd be an interesting exercise though, depending on how you ran it. I could see the BSG 'Robotech fleet' of like, colonization as in the later Macross entries working, with an unknown/staff-run enemy, like the Vajra or Protodeviln, working well.

One of my first games I found without invite or friends on it was a Robotech MU*
