Mad Dogs on Amazon is pretty damned good too! I'm about three episodes in good acting and story.
Ever seen Terriers?
It's by the same people and on Netflix. It's a one-season wonder, but it at least has a decent ending.
Terriers was awesome. I always describe it as Veronica Mars' Drunk Uncle.
-
I am reminded of Carnivalle, which was meant to be a single season but was so popular they started padding it so that it could be two seasons.
The padded stories were painful and so I stopped watching. Series have to end.
-
My brother introduced me to the show Superstore tonight. Not a bad show.
-
@Jaded I disagree. I think its bad. But I like it.
-
@Coin and @Three-Eyed-Crow, that is one of my favorite shows ever. I was so bummed that it only lasted a single season. It was absolutely fantastic.
I also liked Veronica Mars, teenager investigator trope though it might be.
-
@lordbelh
Everyone I've ever talked to about Terriers either LOVED LOVED LOVED it or, more often, had no idea wtf it was.It makes me sad FX didn't do a better job of getting people to watch it when it was a thing they were airing, since I think it could've been pretty popular, but such is life.

Terriers was amazing.
"Leave."
"But--but bab--"
"I said leave."
"Okay."

Anyone want Transparent on Amazon Prime?

Thoughts on The Man In The High Castle?
I'm kinda digging it, up to episode 4 atm. It has twists, and the villains are actually intelligent (in fact it's the heroes who're not).
-
Man in the high castle is a beautiful show with an interesting setting, amazing supporting cast and shit terrible protagonists. It is also very slow, so binging may be tough.
-
I recognize it isn't a good show, as far as show quality and acting goes. But to me its a good show because it fits my pipe dream of what retail work would have been before I spent 10 soul crushing years working in retail.
In other news I watched the first season of Fear The Walking Dead and found it somewhat lacking. I think it is because I come to the sense that half of the main cast are 'Andrea' or 'Lori' characters and I want them dead sooner than later.
-
@tragedyjones Agreed, I tried to binge it, but nodded off for an episode or two and haven't gotten back to it yet.
I'm also trying like hell to like the 100. I think having the Hero Guy and the Bad Guy boss looking exactly the same is putting me off. Also, everyone but blonde girl seems to be a fucking idiot. I kind of hope they all get eaten by two headed cannibal deer and we get to watch grounders do grounder things.

I liked it, and thought it got better as it got going.

Checked out two new shows: Luficer ( fell flat to me) and The Magicians (which I thought had some potential).
-
@lordbelh I really liked The Magicians. SOME PEOPLE did not, but they are wrong.
-
I liked both Lucifer and The Magicians. Both need some work, but that's what first seasons are for: to pave the way for great second seasons.
-
The thing about The Magicians is the same thing people bitched about with other conversions from book to television, that it was to far from the source material.
Back when The Dresden Files came out on SciFi Channel (Before it became SyFy for whatever insipid reason) I thought it was campy, and had low production value, but I found it to still be moderately interesting and entertaining. I /liked/ the idea of a wizard using a hockeystick for his wizard staff etc.
I hadn't read the books then so I didn't know how absolutely wrong they did that series.
Magicians is a lot like that to many people. If you haven't read the books? Series is awesome. If you have and can't differentiate between them? Probably hate it.
-
I just don't really understand the changes to characterization. It's already suffering from massive Pretty People Syndrome, which is inevitable for TV, but why the hell did they age everyone by four or five years? It just makes their pettiness seem that much more obnoxious.

This was really offputting for me, and though I love the Dresden Files, it was why I didn't bother. I don't mind my books changing for movies/tv, as what works in a book doesn't always work for tv, but I do hate it when they do it cheap.
Also, Black Sails is back. That's a show I felt had a lot of holes in its first season, but stuck with it just cuz I liked the whole pirate thing. Second season I thought was really good, and so far the first 2 episodes of Season 3 have been great.
