@Auspice For sure! Just let me know when. It's a legit offer so feel free to take it up or not. (No pressure if you don't want to.)

No! I'd be all about it! Even if just to make @Catsmeow furiously scribble slashfic while fanning herself. >.>
(Tho I will have a cat with me so if that affects things, I totes understand. I can still swing through and grab lunch/dinner and just grab a motel. I was already, legit, planning to add the 2 hours to go through Glenwood Canyon anyway. Colorado Springs vs Aspen doesn't add any additional time on top of that.) -
I just witnessed a conversation about the best way to go about being conscientious in regards to the gender identity of your housepets
That conversation and the fidget stick are currently neck and neck for the shit that has perplexed me this week award.

@Ghost As much as I used to joke that I would have sworn that Ancient Cat understood English, I...
...she demanded to be referred to only as THE IMPERIAL OVERLORD.
What? She literally would not respond to anything else, like most cats. 'Your Majestic Imperial Overlord' and swear to gods that creature would start to purr like a motor before deigning to look at whoever had said it. It was like, 'yes, supplicant, that will suffice to warrant my attention, you may proceed to address me further'.

Quite frankly, as far as I'm concerned if you are posting joke memes about people's suicides, you are being a shitty person and need to GTFO.
I understand that you have the right to post what you want. And I have the right to think you are behaving in a shitty fashion.

I just had to beat my neighborās big ass dog off of her with the end of a stupid ass swiffer. (In the event of a zombie apocalypse, I hope someone chooses my weapon for me.) I live four floors above this woman but just happened to have my windows open so I heard her screams. I had to run down, parkour the fuck through a strangerās apartment, and grab a hysterical three-year-old out of the way with fucking blood everywhere while our other neighbor called an ambulance. She was in the backyard with her toddler when the dog latched onto her ankle and then her arm and refused let go. She got him as a puppy a few months after I got my dog, so Iād say heās almost if not three years old. Only thing is, sheās never socialized or walked him. He just lives his entire life in a tiny paved city backyard surrounded by four cinderblock walls. Sheās left her door open accidentally a few times (or more likely, her daughter has) and heās been loose in the common hallway where Iāve run into him. Iām really glad heās never been aggressive with us butā¦ fuckin! What if that had been my dog? What if that had been her child or our neighbor's kids? This is essentially a building of single mothers, there are kids everywhere. Sheās often referred to him as ānot trained to be friendly.ā Real cute, you dumb bitch. I seriously almost just took the swiffer to her, too. Of course, heās gotta be a pit mix and I loathe the bad reputation they get. My last dog Taurus was a red nosed pit and he was an angel / used to help me rescue feral kittens. Now, Iām just shaking thinking all about wtf is going to happen to this poor dog that didnāt ask for any of this. SJHFKJHFIDGIGFIEFUIGFEUHFH%@#5972 !! Grrr.

Wisdom tells me you do nothing. The owner is scarred now, and has a tough choice to make. If you call the authorities on that dog, the dog may be put down and the woman may lose her kid. With no good options, the only reasonable choice seems to avoid the fuck out of the woman and her beast from now on.

My reaction would be to explain the above to the woman and inform her that if she doesn't start socializing and walking the dog, or at least find it a good home with people who will care for it, you will call the authorities. You don't have to do it--but it might scare her straight if you threaten to.
I mean, yeah, they might take her kid away and put the dog down, but what about the other children the dog might chew on because once again it gets loose?
I HATE that people like this put other people and those poor dogs in this sort of situation, and I am not saying you DO anything other than maybe shake her fucking hard and threaten to. It might be enough to at least keep you, the other neighbors, and the dog, safe.

My brother's dog Chewie was a red-nosed pit, and the sweetest (if dumbest) dog I've ever met. Chewie didn't have two functioning brain cells to rub together, but he adored everyone.

I think it's out of your handsāthe ambulance folks and the hospital will report it, so the whole thing's going to be in the system. You did the right thing, regardless, and whatever happens next isn't on you.
I am also very glad that you're okay.

Basically just forced two of the directors at my job to finally give me the promotion they've been talking about for three months. They were super fucking sketchy about discussing dollar amounts when it came to the raise, they just kept saying I'd be at the top of what was technically allowed for my title and that my peer and I would be "taken care of." (We were both being promoted to managers, east & west coast operations respectively.)
Turns out the raise is just a dollar more an hour and I am still just scraping by every single month, juggling overdue bills and watching my credit plummet. My family is trying to talk me into moving out of the city and back to my hometown so they can help with my kid and I can go back to school and I am so, so angry and tired. I love them to death and I am so thankful that they want to help, but I put two years and SO much energy and life into this job and I absolutely hate the idea of starting over from square one.
-
@Wizz
Two years and being essential is enough time to prove that this job will never get close to repaying your efforts. Whether they can get someone else to do it, or they are greedy, or don't have the money, or just don't see your situation, its not going to change.Unless there is something else about the location or situation, GET OUT.
-
@Misadventure
I love the job, I think it provides a good and necessary service for people who definitely need it, but I think you're right. It just sucks. -
@Wizz You can't live scraping by. Eventually you will have a situation, and you will not be able to provide the good and necessary service, and the company will not help you stand back up again. My wife is in a similar situation, but she's getting 75% of typical pay, AND there is a heavy pressure to "donate time" to handle the excess workload. Its for people who absolutely need her and others like her, but I question whether the company is unable to do better.

I'm so fucking frustrated with the conservative half of my family. I'm a little fucked in the head sometimes, I've dealt with serious depression and social anxiety for as long as I can remember. They've had it out for healthcare, but since I'm white, clearly the help that the government offers is 'for people like me.' Then they vote for the bullshit that is 45, and my mom is telling me I really need to get my healthcare in order, but never mind that she voted for the party that's gleefully trying to take it away from a huge chunk of the population. And she can't understand how her vote, and the fundamental reasons we have different voting patterns, has seriously put a one-sided strain on our relationship. Nope, I'm the judgmental one who can't deal with other people having different ideas.
But the most recent icing on the cake was yesterday when I offhandedly mentioned to my mother in the natural course of a conversation how I'm not comfortable living in the same house as guns. Especially with people who are drunk a lot (I live with my younger, also 45-voting sister who wants to get a gun... or already got one, I don't really want to know). Later, my mom finds a poster with a gun on it that says 'Keep Calm and Carry' and she laughs about how my sister should get it because I don't like guns. I rolled my eyes, but inside I'm the weak ass fuck who doesn't have the heart to tell them that, you know, if I'd had a gun available at certain times in my life, I probably would have shot myself in the fucking head with it.
I really hate my family sometimes. And I hate myself for not being able to be a bitch to them.

The fact that your family has normalised cruelty (because conservatism has) to the point that you hate yourself for not being cruel is saddening.
Point your hate at those who deserve it, not yourself.

This attitude is gross and insulting to anyone who considers themselves a responsible gun owner (I'm not, but I grew up in a family that hunted and my parents had them around. I still kinda like target shooting on occasion). What terrifies me isn't guns, it's the morons who get them with zero interest in safety, respect or proper training and see them as an extension of some politically misguided Ameri-peen.

I don't know if you're talking about my attitude or theirs. I don't personally have a problem with people as a general rule owning guns. Just with people like me possibly having access to them in a dark moment. And other people making light of it (albeit unknowingly in this instance).
-
Theirs, I'm pretty sure.

Oh, theirs. Sorry, thought that would be obvious, but if I were you I'd also be freaked.

@PuppyBreath The reason you're glad you don't have a gun in the house is the same as mine, and I feel you on that one.
My folks do the same thing. They are similarly head-fucked into thinking they have a corner on discernment re: who is and isn't 'deserving', and their take on health care is 'why the fuck should we care about health care being accessible to anybody else, fuck this socialist bullshit, we have medicare now and don't have to care'.
There really are days I wish the irony fairy was an actual thing that'd show up and sparkle the shit out of somebody's face for a few seconds when something like that escapes their mouths.
