Does that count toward "I'm posting for my own amusement"?
-
Why else do people post? It's not like we're an neural network ceaselessly computing the cure for cancer. No one really has a good reason to be posting on an Internet forum.
-
I don't get the idea that we focus on whether someone has said they are quitting or not. I mean, I guess it's part of your drinking game, but I really don't get it. I think there are a shitton of people, myself included, that have said varying degrees of 'peace' and then come back to posting in varying timelines. Makes it a good addition to a drinking game, for sure, but what does it illustrate about the person that I am missing?
-
Sorry @WTFE . You're rubbing me the wrong way and my anger is disproportionate to the stimulus. I really should have left here after my last post to @surreality . I'm pissed at you because I'm an alcoholic. I was blackout drunk when I first fucked with surr on Shangrila and started this mess. I've been drunk most of the times I taunted her via the idiotic medium of upvoting. It'd have been better for everyone concerned if I was honest about all of this from the get-go. Hell, it would have been better for everyone if I just went back to lurking as I have been since the WORA days. I'm going to shut the fuck up now. I am going to change my password for the 3rd time today and hope I can exercise the self-control required to stay away. You'll probably make another drinking joke about how I'll come back again. That's fine by me, I don't mind, and I renounce my anger on the subject. Now it's time to get another bottle of wine (wifey and I are doing double duty on a delicious bottle of Chardonnay).

@Meg: It's just a particularly comical cliche on WORA/SWOFA/MSB: the "I'm quitting, no really, I'm leaving now, just watch me go, see how I'm leaving?" routine, usually (but admittedly not always) with the slathered-on implication that they are somehow superior people because they're leaving. It's funny when they do it, and it's funnier when they come back. It's funnier still, however, when they come back in less time than a good night's sleep.
The humour reaches sublime heights when they spend most of their returned time defending the fact that they've returned instead of shutting the fuck up and pretending that their original flouncing-off didn't happen.

Fuck, you're an alcoholic on WINE!? Fucking lightweight.

@WTFE Yes.
-
What I appreciate is the effort @WTFE puts into the photography of his problem.

I don't get the idea that we focus on whether someone has said they are quitting or not.
Because it's cliche. It was cliche ten years ago when we made the list, and it's cliche today. Most of the drinking game cliches are examples of people saying how they're better than others, but is in fact someone being just as bad as the people they are decrying.
I mean, if Exile thinks that he or she is only dragging WTFE into the mud, she or he is not on focus. It's a faster read than the explosive mess we're just now pulling out of, but I don't think either of us should consider that laudable.
edit: Except now the cycle is "I'm trolling you"/"No, I'm trolling you."/"No, I'm trolling you.", etc.

I forget words and slur my speech when migraine-ing. I've actually had people I'm RPing with notice I have one coming on because my typing will start coming out as gibberish and I won't notice.
Yeah, my phone typing goes to total shit when I migraine, and I garble things a lot. The worst gets like back when I had chemo and have a huge latency, and end up sitting blankly without words like I just went BSOD for 10 mins.
It's been really bad this week because my impacted tooth is making my trigeminal nerve angry, and my migraines usually are when that gets angry. 5 days so far.

Hmmmm
@Ganymede I'm going to run out of alcohol soon. I'm going to need you to make good on those promised drinks.
-
That moment when you and your best friend make a deal that something is going to go down a certain way, and then he changes it up in that clever, shitty way that you're put on the spot, and if you don't go along with the changes he wants, innocent people get caught in the middle.
Fuck. We are gonna have some goddamn words after this.

@Derp Is this a harmless sort of "oh yeah my buddy can tell you just how awesome my career as an astronaut ninja pirate is..." at the bar, or something more serious?

This is:
Me: Hey, our schedules aren'the lining up very well, and I really miss hanging out with you. If I use one of my very limited vacation days at work, can we take a day and just do something fun like we used to?
Him: Yeah man, that sounds great! I have this day off. Just you and me.
Me: Cool.
day starts to proceed
Him: Hey, a friend of mine is fighting with her boyfriend and she doesn't have a car. Can we give her a ride? It'll just be a quick detour.
Me: Yeah, sure, no problem!
Him, later: Oh, I told her she could hang with us until her mom gets home. That's cool with you, right? as girl watches me
Me: Yeah, I guess that's okay. We can still go do stuff after. Just remember, I used a vacation day here...
Him, later: She'said feeling really bummed. I told her we could all just hang at my place. That's cool with you, right? as girl continues watching me
Inner me: No, dude. I used a fucking vacation day so that you and I could go out and have fun, not listen to a depressing sob story from a twenty something fighting with her one-true-love-forever-until-next-week.
Also inner me: This is not her fault. But if I say no, it contributes to her otherwise shitty day, and we end up in a fight anyway. Guess I wasted a day on this.
Me: Fine. Whatever.
-
@Derp Ugh, I don't envy you at all. That's shittier than a porta-loo at Glastonbury.
-
I really didn't need that visual image, @Tinuviel. Thank you oh so fucking much.
-
@WTFE I just post for my own amusement.
You're welcome.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH! MY LIVER AGAIN! (Curse my self-referential rules!)

Really had no interest in saying anything further, but there was a light bulb moment and it may provide some clarity.
In short: There was an incident I mentioned elsewhere and said 'and people seem to think this is OK' or something similar.
From what I gather, that was interpreted to mean: 'This bad thing happened, and nobody on the forum said or did anything.'
That wasn't it. The forum was fine about that (and generally is on these things).
The 'people who think it is OK' are the people on games doing these things in the first place, not people on the forums reacting to reports of it from whoever is making them. That's the thing I felt was worth discussion, not any reaction by people on the forums months back when when it came up. (The forum was predictably cool about it. Very rarely do the troglodytes that think this is all cool beans on games show up on the forum, and when they do, they don't last long for good reason.)
Instead of slap fighting endlessly with each other about shit said on the forums, dealing with 'this is obviously a point of contention for folks, how do we ensure this and other things that people do regularly on games is actually addressed or prevented on the games themselves?' seemed more productive a use of time to me.
And woah did I put that across badly, but that was the intention there.
tl;dr: That was never a critique of people on the forums doing or not doing a thing being dubbed a problem of any kind, and hopefully that clarifies something at this point.
