I was thinking they meant the original person of the complaint.
... And I'm sorry that I misinterpreted that, if so.
You're still super nitpicky sometimes. So there?

Just trying to understand my fellow human beings as filtered through text on the internet.
Think of it as extremely defensive against word use, and implications there of. I was raised by
lawyerswolves. -
In general I think the best policy if you actually intend to apologize vs excuse/save face is to keep it very simple and short unless they ask for clarification. The more you run your mouth the more likely it is that you'll say something to shoot yourself in the foot.
"I didn't intend to come across that way but I can see why it did. I'm really sorry that I was offensive."
Is better than:
"Sorry you took my words that way, but I didn't mean that. You shouldn't have interpreted them that way."

Slap me, I've never seen so much semantic furore over the particular arrangement of 5-10 words before.
Can we agree that he's an arsehole and move the fuck along?
I think the thing is that while @Misadventure has been known to be a little pedantic and sometimes quite literal and particularly nitpicky, he's never been an asshole. This, too, doesn't qualify him as an asshole to me; just surprisingly dense on this issue, given my experiences.
Well, s/he probably is. Most of us here on MSB are.
But yes, I meant @Zyrus specifically in this case.
P.S.: An ass is a donkey. It is not the same as an arse.

@Kestrel I really wish I could downvote you for the use of "arse".
So much hate for that 'word'.

That was a very insincere apology.
@Coin is a jerk.
Discuss.

@Kestrel I apologize that you found @coin's apology to be insincere.
I'm just genuinely sorry you thought I was apologizing.
I was just being an asshole.

I'm sorry that I read this thread before morning coffee.

Look, an accurate use of "I'm sorry" in a non-apologetic context.
-
@Misadventure said in The 100: The Mush:
As I said, I'm not addressing the specific person's actions, which provide context and some chance of sussing out actual motivations or attitudes.
TL;DR
"I'm sorry X was taken that way" does not equal insincere all by itself.
It might be sincere but I would not call it an apology no matter how sincere. To me the core of an apology in the expression of contrition, the taking of fault onto oneself. That is nowhere in that statement. I was never on 100 MUSH and have zero first have knowledge of specifics but that is not an apology sincere or not.
For example:
I am sorry there are homeless people. That is a sincere statement from me. That is also not an apology. -
-
@Misadventure said in The 100: The Mush:
So you have a hot button.
You assume something, and won't change that assumption if told otherwise?
That's on you, not the English language.
It very much is the English language.
"I'm sorry that you took it that way" is very obviously blame-shifting. Parse the fucking grammar, dude: It starts with "I'm sorry", sure, but then the subject shifts: to "you". After that it's all on "you". This is almost canonical blame-shifting that is so obvious that I suspect my former ESL students would spot it, and they're fucking incompetents grammatically speaking!
If you want to actually express regret for a reaction, there's a myriad of non-blame-shifting ways to do it. For example:
- I'm sorry, I didn't intend to be offensive.
- I'm sorry, I didn't realize this would offend.
- I'm sorry, my wording was clumsy.
- I'm sorry, I probably didn't word that right.
I'm sure I'm coming across as condescending right now. I'm sorry you can't understand fundamental human interaction.

... I'm sorry that you don't like that we closed a game that you were having fun on because it wasn't going our way.
EDIT:
... I'm sorry that you don't like that we closed another game that you were having fun on because it wasn't going our way. -
@GangOfDolls said in The 100: The Mush:
Yeah, it's sad to see a game die before its time. The game runners mentioned their observations and reasons for closing, which boiled down to a mix of staffing failures to recognize and correct problems before it was too late, theme and cooperation problems, and rushing through plot.
No mention if it might ever reboot or try again but my sense is that it's not likely, at least under the current owners.
Note: Within 23 days their old game, Fifth World, is ramping back up again. Most of the houses are run by their characters and the game is largely centric to their characters and plot.
The point I'm trying to make is that approx 20 days of closing 100, Fifth World is reopening. One should probably question if they cut 100 off because they got bored with it and wanted to go back to a different setting, and not for whatever reasons they listed. 20 days is a pretty fast turnaround time, yo.
Fool me once? Shame on me
Fool me twice, shame on you
Fool me seven ti-oh what the fuck... -
Actually, no. They closed The 100 for the very reasons that were listed.
Also, your hatred-boner for them has crossed the line from slightly amusing (albeit off the freaking mark so much) and into the realm of obnoxious conspiracy theorists.
Please shut the hell up already.

Hah. Nice try to wax my point as a hatredboner to play some kind of forum defense. Old trick.
I dislike they way they abuse their players by putting themselves first, and this thread has more than anything shown I'm not the only one who feels this way. Try to write it off as some personal hatredbonerlulz all that you want. This hobby won't survive if the people who run games keep putting themselves first and keep fucking players over. I'm sure I don't need to tell your buddies this, they'll see you threw forum defense option #43 in their defense. Good for you.
I won't be missing out on any game time in this miraculously fast turnaround on 5w's return. I wont be there. Was just passing along to the players of 100 that 100's owners started up a new game within 20 days or so.
P.S. I like your new forum handle. Who were you before? Care to share? Forum trick #2, eh?
-
Because this keeps coming up:
No, The Fifth World is not reopening in a public capacity. Some old players/friends are getting together on a closed server to RP.
-
Dude, your obsessiveness with trying point out how 'bad' some people are reaching Crino-levels. We get it, they're horrible and they should be completely shunned and made to quit the hobby so the elitests of world can go on with our lives, feeling wholly confident that our particular version of fun is never trod upon again.
To point, I'm neither defending or condemning anyone, I'm just pointing out that you really really seem to love pointing out what bad staffers, players, and likely people they are. Get over it already. You say you're not the only one, but you're the one that keeps bringing up dead issues on dead threads. So I dunno. I'd say maybe it would be warranted if they murdered you dog, but really, just let shit that happened years ago sit. I wasn't aware that being salty over shit lasted multiple years. I didn't even know that was a thing. Time to move on.
